@@lettenlina1708 I live in Slavic Village, which is part of Cleveland Ohio here in the U.S. There are 9000 Polish, Russian, and Ukrainian families and about 12 Baltic families. We all still love our beer, kvass, and vodka as much as anyone still in Europe though, as proof we once accidentally set our river on fire.

So interesting! It reminds me of how in that situation in the US someone could say "Wake up!" and that's why saying "Good Morning" in that way kind of made sense!

Today, I've just started to learn Latvian and a unique fact that makes me learn Latvian is this a Europe lang related to Sanskrit, it's just it feels a bit hard for me to learn it faster. I think due to my native lang grammar habit, it also differ from English too. So, I need to make my mind get used to it. Greetings Latvians from Indonesia, I wish I go there for trip!! 🇮🇩 ♥️ 🇱🇻!!

Hey, I'm a Swede living in Riga and I gotta say I am so excited to really get into your videos and learn. Watching this I have learned more about greeting people accurately than I have in my many years being here on and off. I feel like being Swedish kinda lets you off the hook a lot and people don't correct you or really teach you very well. They simply don't mind if you act a bit shitty if you're Swedish in Riga. Hello from Lithuania! Haha It’s pretty funny how you say that “laba diena” sounds like old Latvian because here is what we use instead :D what’s even funnier is that for us Latvian sounds like a more ancient version of Lithuanian haha ironic isn’t it? :) But it feels so nice to listen to Latvian, it sounds so familiar and makes me somewhat happy ^^’

Fun fact: my Latvian great grandma was going to get sent to Siberia when eight years old then she escaped and remembered hiding in the fields and bushes and then she took a bowl to Louisiana instead of Ellis island and I want to learn her language next time I go to her house

Hi! Thanks for your comment :) I presume this girl is Latvian? I’m not sure my videos are suited for children who don’t speak English as the majority of my content is in English. I have not yet made a video designed for Latvians to learn English, but rather it is for English Speakers to discover Latvian. Perhaps if you gave me more details about what the purpose of such a video that you’re looking for would be, I could suggest something made by others. Anete :)

Germane Hi Anete, Thanks for the response. Yes, she is Latvian and starting school here next week. Unfortunately, we only just found out she is joining us and I really would like some basic Latvian to be able to communicate with her at the beginning. Things that would be useful in the classroom setting - break time, lunch, home time, toilet, wash hands, are you ok?, sit down on the carpet. Those kind of things. I just don’t want her to feel isolated whilst adapting to a new language.

Based on some of my familiarity with Lithuanian, I assume "Vai tu neguli?" means "Are you not lying (in your bed)?". Yet those languages share very little mutual intelligibility. French equivalents of Latvian (singular: est) and Lithuanian (et) "ir" sound the same so it becomes somewhat of a challenge to explain. Lithuania has its own more splendid Salaspils: Trakai.

German, French, Spanish and Italian are more useful worthwhile languages to pursue than Latvian - Latvian is only useful if you're planning to live in Latvia.

In my language (Dutch) we also use "good morning" in that way! It can be a very passive agressive thing to say. I would translate it to English as "no shit! do you think so?".
