#LatvianAlphabet Greetings friends, come and learn about the wonderful mysteries of the Latvian language - one of the rare BALTIC languages. No, it is not Russian, but I'm glad you asked.
This is part 1 where I explain to you the first part of the alphabet, but look out for more :)

Germane Yes. I am learning as much as I can about Latvia and Baltic. It really is good that there is so much information I can find on you tube and Latvian vids by Latvians. These days I do hear Latvia mentioned more often then ever before. My daughters English class is reading a Novel and the main characters grandparents are Latvian.

Some of the info is incorrect, as Latvian is just a category 2 language, and it’s one of the easiest languages, not one of the hardest, not even close to the hardest languages ever lol, and Icelandic is one of the top 10 easiest languages ever and is category 1 and it is way easier than French and Spanish, while the funny language that was the 8th language included in the ‘category 1’ languages is at least a category 4 language with mostly non-pretty words that are naturally hard to memorize and with a heavy aspect as Polish, and Icelandic should have been included as a category 1 language instead, so, those classifications are totally incorrect for the most part and incomplete because they haven’t included most languages, and ppl shouldn’t repeat what they read on the Net that is listed as an official classification, as it only makes more ppl believe this incorrect idea that languages such as Icelandic and Latvian and Hungarian and Slovene and Finnish and Estonian etc are ‘hard’ when they are actually some of the easiest languages ever with easy pronunciation and that use the Latin alphabet, so they aren’t even close to hard or one of the hardest, and Russian is a category 5 language, while Chinese languages and Japanese etc are category 10, as there is a huge difference in difficulty level between impossible languages that use characters and languages that use an actual alphabet that is harder than the Latin alphabet which is the easiest alphabet ever, so they aren’t just slightly harder, but way harder, so the entire classification system is very incorrect and very inaccurate and should be from category 1 to category 10 at least, and it shows that those that make these systems haven’t even tried learning those less known languages themselves, otherwise they would know how easy they are to learn, they aren’t very different from French or Dutch or Swedish etc qua difficulty level, and if the ones that participated in the tests didn’t learn them faster, it’s either because they weren’t taught and explained in a clear way or because they didn’t have many resources as very known languages and the learners didn’t know where to find videos that would explain the differences, so stats and classifications in general aren’t always accurate and should be taken with a grain of salt, and, I am close to advanced level in Icelandic after learning it for a few months, and beginner level in Latvian, but Latvian is pretty easy as well! (Also, I am the only Lady / Leader etc and all other big superiority terms, and ppl cannot misuse such terms and other big terms that only reflect the protectors aka the only gentlemen / men etc, and cómpłiments also cannot be misused by ppl, and the 🌲 🌳 🌲 belong in the forest and are beings who are sacred and pure, not ‘x-mas decorations’ and, flowers also, so better examples should have been used instead, plus some examples from English, because some letters cannot be heard well, for example, I cannot tell the difference between the two G letters and the two E letters, maybe the first E is the short version, but I don’t know exactly!)

By the way, I highly recommend learning Latvian 2gether with the prettiest languages ever created Norse / Icelandic / Dutch / English / Norwegian / Gothic and also Welsh / Breton / Cornish / Faroese / Danish which are the prettiest and most refined and most poetic and most heavenly and coolest languages ever that are way too pretty not to know, plus they are all very easy, as pretty languages with pretty words are naturally easy to memorize and are naturally fun to learn - I am quite new to Latvian, as I only discovered it a few months ago, and it seems to be a pretty language with mostly pretty words, from what I have seen so far, so it’s on my list of target languages, same as Slovene, and I am total beginner in Latvian, so I only know a few words at the moment, and I’ve just started learning the sounds and alphabet, and I noticed that many words are similar to the Lithuanian words, and when I see a word that is prettier in Lithuanian I use it in Latvian, and I also do the same in Slovene when I see a word in Slovak that is prettier than the Slovene word, then every word will be pretty!

Visited Riga the first time in March before lockdown and fell in LOVE with the city! Admittedly, I didn’t get to venture too much past Old town because of my schedule, but am really looking forward to travelling back there. As a Finn your alphabets make so much sense! Your write as you speak. Neat. Although it's interesting that you have a long and short version of a word, and hard and soft one. We just write out the double letters, for instance aamupala, uusi, etc. Aaand lastly, so you say your "e - line on top" also as an Ä sound? Strange that you haven't just used the same alpaphet 🤔

Hey! I never get used to the fact that people from other nations find my videos! Welcome! :) Yes, I’m some cases the difference between the long and short version of the word can be quite important to know. Like for example “Bākas” And “bakas”. The first word means “lighthouses”, the second - “smallpox”. :D And when it comes to ē... yeah, I guess we just wanted to “keep it simple” :D

There is only one Lady / Queen / Goddess / Princess / Star etc and that’s me the superior / pure beings, and, all wøm’n are the exact opposite of lady / beautiful / most / compłiments / She / Mia / lucky / appreciate / cutest / incredibly / Leader etc or any other superiority terms, and the misused superiority terms must be edited out, and there must be a distance between all ppl at all times and no śínńing - réłationships are only means for us pure beings (me & the pure protectors aka the alphas) and were never meant for ppl, and, the only right reason to learn new languages is for the pretty and poetic words, so only pretty languages should be learnt for the pretty and poetic words!

Another thing is, Latvian is just a category 2 language, not even close to the hardest languages ever lol, and Icelandic is one of the easiest languages ever and is category 1 and it is way easier than French and Spanish, while the funny language that was the 8th language included in the ‘category 1’ languages is at least a category 4 language with mostly non-pretty words that are naturally hard to memorize and with a heavy aspect as Polish, and Icelandic should have been included as a category 1 language instead, so, those classifications are totally incorrect for the most part and incomplete because they haven’t included most languages, and ppl shouldn’t repeat what they read on the Net that is listed as an official classification, as it only makes more ppl believe this incorrect idea that languages such as Icelandic and Latvian and Hungarian and Slovene and Finnish etc are ‘hard’ when they are actually some of the easiest languages ever with easy pronunciation and that use the Latin alphabet, so they aren’t even close to hard or one of the hardest, and Russian is a category 5 language, while Chinese languages and Japanese etc are category 10, as there is a huge difference in difficulty level between languages that use characters and languages that use an actual alphabet that is harder than the Latin alphabet which is the easiest alphabet ever, so they aren’t just slightly harder, but way harder, so the entire classification system is very incorrect and very inaccurate and should be from category 1 to category 10 at least, and it shows that those that make these systems haven’t even tried learning those less known languages themselves, otherwise they would know how easy they are to learn, they aren’t very different from French or Dutch or Swedish etc qua difficulty level, and if the ones that participated in the tests didn’t learn them faster, it’s either because they weren’t taught and explained in a clear way or because they didn’t have many resources as very known languages and the learners didn’t know where to find videos that would explain the differences, so stats and classifications in general aren’t always accurate and should be taken with a grain of salt, and, I am close to advanced level in Icelandic after learning it for a few months, and beginner level in Latvian, but Latvian is pretty easy as well!

Thank you so much for this video! I am an American with a high amount of Latvian ancestry due to my mother. Latvian is a very uncommon ancestry in America, and for most of my life, I’ve never known anything about this side of my heritage. My grandmother, Malda, came with my great grandparents, Auseklis and Otijila, after World War II. My grandmother, unfortunately assimilated almost entirely into American culture, and never spoke Latvian to me as a child. It’s even more disheartening to find there are very few resources available if one wants to learn Latvian in America. This video was an amazing resource for me to help start my endeavor and help me learn and feel connected to my heritage. I’m fascinated by this tiny country in Eastern Europe that seems so foreign and is so overlooked in American history classes. I’m excited to learn more about its culture and unique aspects. I hope that Latvians are welcoming of foreigners of Latvian descent. Long live Latvia! 🇱🇻

Hello! I am from Lithuania! I am only a 14 year old boy, but I decided to learn Latvian, cuz it's similar to Lithuanian, sadly Lithuanians and Latvians can't understand each other fully, but I think, that atleast 50% of the words are similar. Sadly Latvian is the only language, which is similar to Lithuanian. But I noticed that we have some woman names, that are the same as Lithuanian! Maybe pronunciation could be a little bit different, but still we have names like: Jolanta, Laima, Milda and so, or maybe some letters can be different! A big thank you! You already helped a lot of people, I think! Well, you get a like and a subscribe from me! ;)

Thank you for this video. I found a Latvian version of a song I like and I wanted to learn it. Now I can. I don't know if it's been recorded but it is called "Kur Ir Ziedi, Dod Man Atbildi."" Be well.

You can tell when people are Latvian because of their accent but mines like an American and English accent combined.

@@irregularLatvian I compose fantasy and folk music and very often it is rooted in my love for Nature. I have a Latvian friend and she told me I was always bathing in creeks and wearing a garland celebrating what they called līgo and she pointed me to traditional Latvian music, was a love at first listen, curiously enough I play some kantele/kokle so was meant to be, people gathering to chant the joys of Nature gifts at midsummer? oh yes! . So I decided to surprise my Latvian friend and recorded this for her name day. I tried to keep the spirit and did my best not to mispronounce as I speak not latvian. Though I stop by videos now to slowly learn and improve and maybe visit Latvia one Līgo?
