This video is amazing. One side of my family is Latvian and Lithuanian, both languages are so beautiful. I could listen to them forever and never cease to enjoy hearing them! The mention of the folktales is a brilliant addition. There are also soo many ways of saying "you're welcome" in Latvian as well. I never know which one to choose. I tend to go for formal language because it seems less likely to offend. Even though context and variety are essential. My uncle spoke Latvian all the time and I always wanted to ask him to teach me.

Your channel is really helpful! Liels paddies :). I was curious, so I've searched for the origin of "thank you" in my language. I'm from Czech Republic. And we say "děkuji" which comes from old German verb "denken"- and that means "to think". And the original meaning should be that when someone helps you, you're grateful for it. So after that you THINK of him/her in a positive/nice way.

In Yiddish we say, "א דאנק" which means "a thank" or "a gratitude!" You can modify it to say "a great thank" or "a beautiful thank" when wanting to say more

Since you asked... Paddies in Japanese is "Arigatou🥰" which is originally a very formal form of the adjective "arigatai", used to describe something that you are thankful for or that is "hard to come by" or "rare". So as you see it is a very roundabout way to thank someone, and not a direct way to thank them. Which is indeed a very Japanese way of expressing your feelings....😏

Hi I am interested the origin of the Latvian language and how it progressed during the years can you a make video of this please

In South Slavic languages "Thanks" is either praise (to you or upon you) or gift of good. In French it is "Merci!".
@marijae2076 Жыл бұрын
In Lithuanian we say also say "dėkui", which has slavic roots. I looked for the explanation of the origin of "Ačiū" and one of them that it menas "atjaučiu" - I feel it.
@dymytryruban43248 ай бұрын
"Dėkui" or "dekoju" is actually Germanic. South Slavic languages don't have it at all.
