For me the most criminally underappreciated band ever, I still haven't heard their unique fusion of new wave & jazz anywhere else.

The best band ever to come out of Australia. This takes me back to the Trade Union Club in the very early 80s

Wow never heard these before....didn't know they did a session. My favourite band from the 80s. Got into them late in the decade after buying "The History Of Rock and Roll pt1." The best introduction you could get for this amazing band. Punk jazz!! Post punk angularity at it's best. Weird dischord like early Scritti Politti. Demented saxophone, and Gene Krupa on the drums....influenced a ton of bands with brass sections from Teardrop Explodes onwards.

I remember I saw The Clowns downstairs at what was the Prince Consort Pub in about 1979 (when their first EP) was just out. I thought they were very inventive. Their music confused me but it has grown on me since then (that’s forty years of trying to work out the sounds). Their (Ed’s) lyrics were pure poetry.

Interesting the confused me comment. The whole thing was pretty organic . Ed would have a gt piece & hmm melody . But we did practice a lot . His lyrics were brilliant though . I think underrated .

Imagine being a Londoner and into what's hip in '82, and hearing this. Glad I was in regional Aus at the time, and hearing this alongside the other stuff from half-decent postpunk poseurs.
