@@BirdsNThings yep, 6 of them every day, they take turns diving in and splashing around for a bit.. I did however come home one day and found one drowned in the pool, it was awful.. So I now leave some floating boards in at all times so a bird in distress may have an escape if it can grab one. There are stairs but I think the kooka got into trouble in the deep end. I was very paranoid for a long time afterwards and tried to scare them away from my yard but to no avail so I just hope every day they all get out ok... So far so good... :)
@BirdsNThings

@@HelloKitty-ed5cy I completely understand you. Sometimes, birds become so waterlogged (rainbow lorikeets!) that they can't get out. I've read with bird baths that we should leave a stick in there, etc, so little critters that fall in can climb back out, but I'm too high up in the apartment for other animals, and my baths are not deep enough for birds. I'm sure floating boards will help. Kookies are awesome!

@@BirdsNThings One neighbour paid a young bloke to drill out hollows in a tree in another neighbours dead tree. We saw 2 families raise chicks. Then that dead tree came down ,so people went to nest boxes which were really effective because , I think, the kookas were used to the territory. Because they are in back yards the dogs keep the nest raiding reptiles at bay. We watch them feeding the chicks & launching off decks & railings to catch frogs ,lizards & cicadas .
@BirdsNThings
@BirdsNThings 3 жыл бұрын
@@NELCARM That's an incredible story! I used to work as a wildlife rescue volunteer, and learned the importance of territory. If we keep the territorial animals in care for too long, they will lose their territory, and this changes how, and for how long, we care for them, whether they be territorial birds or possums. Made me have a lot of respect for BrokeBeak the magpie that has been fiercely defending his territory (including our bird bath) from other magpies and currawongs with his broken beak for many years. 😊

Now if only you could charge them 1 dollar each for the food and drinks, you'd get a good undeclared income the ATO doesn't need to know. Or at least train them to steal shiny metalic objects.
@BirdsNThings
@BirdsNThings 4 жыл бұрын
If I start charging them, they're more likely to give me bad reviews online. They are fussy patrons. Some birds get upset if they don't have the bath house (containing 4 baths) to themselves! :)
@andreapasqua8639
@andreapasqua8639 4 жыл бұрын
Hahaha sounds like they are spoiled rotten for choice. Bet they sing most of the time, I used to live near a few parks so we'd hear a lot of different birds sing. Mainly crows, magpies, butcher birds, willy wagtails, rosellas and both black and white cockatoos. There was the occasional kookaburra but they slowly started to make sure their numbers dropped cause they aren't native to W.A.
@BirdsNThings
@BirdsNThings 4 жыл бұрын
@@andreapasqua8639 Sadly, they do not "sing" most of the time. Lorikeets yell at each other, or if they arrive by themselves, yell non-stop for their mates to join them. Noisy miners yell with their scowling looks, ravens whine, and sulphies shriek and scream. It is nice though when lories talk sweet gibberish and magpies sing. :)
