Battery change is for cars that keep track of the battery charge and condition. I recently changed the battery (AGM type) on my BMW E65. I had to use a laptop with some BMW software on it to reset the power module. Interestingly with the old battery I was seeing over 15 volts on the system with the engine on, after the reset it went back to 14. So failing to reset may lead to a cooked battery. Most of those horrible cars that turn off at the lights have an AGM type battery with a controller that needs to be reset. I am impressed with the fact this scanner has that function. Most of my scan tools cannot do it.

I have an older Launch Diagun. It can do almost anything. Launch is a competitor to Autel so chances are this tool will have excellent coverage. My Diagun finds more than 50 modules on my car, this would me a major nusisunce in a service shop where you just want to do one thing. This tool would be a must have for any workshop but for home use on a limited number of cars I do not mind the time it takes on the Diagun.

I would like to know more about immobilizer programming. My Snap On Solus Ultra is lacking here and when I have done this work in the past it has cost me to have an electronics expert come to my shop to finish the job. This tool could be worth the cost for that alone. Also does it need annual updates and if so what is the cost?

I wish I had this tool when I replaced my lock cylinder a few weeks ago, I could have seen/shown how well the immobilizer function works. I haven't had the chance to use any of these features yet. If I ever get the chance I will make sure to get some video. All updates are free if I remember correctly. I believe you simply hook it up to your computer and download the software in their website.

Battery change probably allows you to connect the tool, go to that mode and it feeds voltage back through the connector to keep all the memory features alive as you change the vehicles battery. When you consider how many items vehicles remember it would be handy.

Makes sense!

Thanks, I was considering this tool for a basic code puller, but it's not for me. Only 19 PIDS in datastream and no active cylinder misfire data, which is a deal breaker. No better than Android apps. The data available is very limited. I wouldn't waste my money on something that cost about as much as autoenginuity basic obdii package. I guess you might look for a used Snap-on Solus or Modis.
