Launch Control: New England Forest Rally 2017 - Season 5, Episode 8
With just two events remaining, Travis Pastrana has to beat David Higgins at the New England Forest Rally to keep his rally championship hopes alive. An injury to Pastrana’s co-driver on Day 1 seems to hand Higgins the win, but the rally holds another surprise that could change the outcome again.

I swear, Travis Pastrana is the hardest working, biggest competitor and most driven athlete in motorsports. Great work Travis, Robbie, Greg and everybody at Subaru Rally Team USA. Watching David Higgins win is always fun,, but it's about time he is really challenged and who better to challenge him than his own teammate and the greatest American Rally Driver in history, TP?!

As much as I love rally, it sure has some bizarre rules. Why can't they have more than an 80mph average? Anyone know the reason of this? This is racing, should be that whoever goes fastest, wins. That's it.

@SubaruMotorsportsUSA
@SubaruMotorsportsUSA 6 жыл бұрын
Its a safety consideration. It is to discourage rallies from including stages that are too fast. Too fast from a safety/insurance standpoint for the sanctioning body. A stage that is avg over 80mph is super fast, meaning the cars are traveling way higher than 80mph a lot of the time, and one could argue these types of very-fast roads carry increased risk of injury if there was an accident.

There are plenty of other cars racing as well, but nobody's on the same level as SRT. Manufacturer backing provides them with enough funding to do whatever they need to, and Vermont Sportscar has a massive wealth of experience building and servicing rally vehicles.

@benjaminlately 6 жыл бұрын
You race the clock on rally, but other cars are on the track at the same time. Start interval for the top cars is usually 2 min apart. For cars that are slower the start interval is usually 1 or 1.5 min. The races are run on regular forest roads (temporary shutdown and controlled by volunteers). Passing in rally is rare as the cars are put in order of qualifying.

I'm new to this series and Rally sports. Can someone explain to me why it seems like Subaru competes against Subaru and not the other contestants? Is it because it's a Subaru show, so no Ford, Toyota etc.? The drivers don't seem to have to beat anyone else except the other Subaru driver. P.S. I'm loving these shows.

@Artecius92

80mph is the death speed, it was introduced after multiple catastrophes in the group b series. It's bad design on the rally organisers if the cars are reaching speeds on average 80mph or higher. Means drivers are taking a lot of risks and there's a lot more chance of errors & potentially death.
