Maybe it's because 90+% of the farmers where I grew up were running Deere, but MAN, there's something about seeing a Claas in the field. So cool. Especially the harvesters.

The big recent attraction that Canadian farmers have with the German machinery like Claas and Fendt is their fuel consumption. Many die-hard Deere and Case users here, have been making the switch to Claas Lexion combines, Jaguar Harvesters and Fendt Vario tractors. Especially in areas with medium acreage and Ontario type conditions more similar to Europe with fields mixed with wood lots and hilly country. The Horsch implements are getting very popular too. Especially the "Joker" where low tillage is the goal.

Here in the US corn belt I haven’t seen as many fendt tractors but I def agree with the claas. Their choppers have been common for a while, but then and especially the combines have increased. Haven’t seen claas tractors much though.

We switched to fendt tractor and claas combine. In southern Ontario. Claas combine is better on fuel than s series Deere. But haven’t seen any fuel efficiency gain in the fendt vs new 8r Deere.

You have no idea how blessed you are to have big nearly flat fields. In the 1950s when I was growing up on the farm in Michigan, we had 2 row corn pickers that picked and husked the corn, but it didn't shell the kernels off it. Our land wasn't nearly as flat as yours. I'd have been worried about some of those tall narrow machines falling over. Our IH 76 combine pulled behind our Farmall M, then our Farmall 400 making a 7" wide cut. It didn't do corn, only oats and wheat. Our farms were much smaller than those in Nebraska are now. We wouldn't been able to use the machines you use and we definitely couldn't have afforded them. We only bought the combine when the man that owned the threshing machine decided not to buy a new one and wanted too much to combine small fields like ours.

The neighbor had some corn the deer had gotten into. We had to go in and hand harvest what was left. He had some hand harvesting tools for corn that had steel picks and leather palms. We did get the corn out but it was really slow and it made a mess of your hands. An 1800's farmer would be totally amazed at the behemoths we use today to harvest dent corn. Too bad you can't find some of the hand harvesting tools to show how far agriculture has come. Looking forward to seeing your harvest this year.

When I was young and my family farmed, we upgraded from a 303 IH to an 815 IH . We went from a 2 row to a 4 row corn head and that was huge . That was probably in the early 80’s. 😂 Memories of farming I will never forget .

I could spend a week playing with all the tractors! German engineering is some of the best in the world. Laura, you mentioned sweet corn. Do you and Grant grow any sweet corn at all? I LOVE sweet corn, but unfortunately fresh sweet corn is hard to come by here in the desert southwest. Maybe you and Grant could raise a small patch of it next year, and talk us all through how to do it properly? Maybe even some tips for raising a few ears out here in the desert? You guys are amazing.

We are running an 8700 and love it down here in Arkansas we are have had the last 2 generations of it cutting mostly Rice and Soybeans with very little corn. Only like 150 acres this year of corn but like 2700 of Rice and 1500 of beans we haven't had any of the tractors though but they look amazing we are running challenger 1038s 3 of them along with the challenger track tractor. We also run a Massey 9560 to help out with harvest but the lexion will run circles around that thing at 5.5 to 6 in standing Rice with a 32 foot stripper header. Yall definitely want to look at getting into the different green lol hope harvest goes great for yall.

I am very happy you and Grant followed up Claas back in Nebraska. You can see how the German Company is trying very hard to crack into the US Market. Their design and creature comforts are miles ahead of the Case and Deere equipment. I am sure Claas will have Demo packages and super attractive opportunities to saddle into any of their equipment on a full time basis. I am certain that Case and Deere are nervous.
