I watched this again and this time I was able to hear your response re do men clean included, "..the bar is high." Getting on my soapbox, there is nothing that congenitally excludes males from rising to that challenge. I think raising boys to be good husbands includes having them do chores such as cleaning, along with any sisters, so as to instill respect for what is historically viewed as "women's work" and appreciation of what it takes to maintain a home. I think there might be fewer divorces if men helped around the home, particularly if both parents work outside the home. Perhaps the organizational needs of a community differs somewhat from those of a nuclear family living as a singular unit outside of a communal setup. Getting off my soapbox, your laughter at that juncture of the video says it all to my mind. It seems that your community does adhere to essentially a balanced allocation of responsibilities - to a degree. Personally we are and generally life is, always a work in progress. As always thoroughly enjoy your videos and happy St. Valentines to you and your dear ones. Now I have to look up who exactly St. Valentine was or if he is simply a myth.! 😊

Laura, have you already talked about mental health in the Bruderhof? I wonder if there are some people who experience stress, anxiety, or depression and would benefit from professional help or medication. If that is the case, is there a stigma associated with mental health struggles?
@LaurafromtheBruderhof3 жыл бұрын
I may have talked about it once. I might ask one of our health care providers to give some insights. There's no stigma attached to mental illness. Some folks have heavier burdens to carry than others and need all our support.

@@LaurafromtheBruderhof Agree that this would be an interesting topic. Physical health interests me as well. What about people who simply aren't 100% all of the time. For example if somebody got long term Covid or some condition that simply meant they had to take it slowly every now and then. I get the impression that Bruderhof is very much for those adults who can work at full capacity every day. That is certainly what I would want to do, if I was a member. As you guys are more traditional, would you say the average age of marriage and having kids is super young compared to the outside world? In the scientific institute where I was working before COVID made us telework, most of the cleaners were men. I would say 70:30 ratio. But in my personal life, most couples I know have the women clean the majority of the house. I can only think of 2 couples where it's the guy that's more tidy than the woman. In my relationship I take care of most of the home, while my partner cooks and tidies the kitchen. We also have a help with cleaning once a week, as we both work full time.
