They are trying to do them in the Japanese Sofubi style and not the original Street Sharks style which may turn off some fans. If you don't know, the Japanese Sofubi figures are often very limited soft vinyl figures. They do mostly come in bags like the one included in this set. They can also be hundreds of dollars for one especially if it's a special limited color version. So I feel they felt the price is justified because if you are comparing them to the Japanese figures, it's actually less expensive then some of those but I think this may hurt their success in America because of this higher price point that North Americans are not used to.

This all day! I've been trying to tell fans who actually still have the toys, to really feel the weight and material of the villains. Yes the price is bad but Clambo is perfect, colours maybe a little garish but he has the right size, articulation and a gimmick (opening shell). Plus much like Killamari his toy looks nothing like his animation version, so for me he could have easily come out in 94' and that's why I've ordered one.
@ChapMeifan3 жыл бұрын
The whole nostalgia angle has become a method for toy companies to justify ripping off people with high prices. ReAction figures used to be $10 each and, honestly, that was a lot for what you got. But now they are $17.99 for pretty much the same thing. I've been collecting action figures since the 1970's and love that they make obscure characters to fill in the missing blanks in our collections. But these prices are too much. Thanks for your honest review.

also my attitude changed towards the Krakass figure when I noticed he's meant to be a school of piranha because no single piranha is dangerous alone. And as a Street sharks fan I wanna gush vent on how happy I am they made a Clambo figure. When I was a kid I would collect clams from a local lake, I had about a dozen that made it to pet status. So I waited so patiently for the clam guy to come out lol. I learned to draw redesigning him and the rest of the characters as toys, I've still got a pile of those designs in a folder somewhere. I was like in first grade so they weren't great lol I wonder if mattel would be interested in designs made by an actual kid in the actual 90s

I grew up with Street Sharks and loved the cartoon as a child. I collected tons of the toys, hand puppets, vehicles, etc and only a few survived the past 20 years. I also have the comics. But these are... weird. I'm not sure who they're trying to capture with these and at these prices they may have seriously hurt the line right out of the gate.

It's like the Neca Toon Turtles line. On one hand it's incredibly great to get show accurate guys with a lot of accessories, but availability and aftermarket prices almost make it a judgement call. It's really just how deep you get drawn in.
@ieyke3 жыл бұрын
But that's (theoretically) not really NECA's fault. They (for some reason) seem to think their stuff is easily available, and they're really only $25 each, which is wildly reasonable. This is the company itself making them LUDICROUSLY expensive, and CHOOSING to make them limited.

As a huge Street Shark fan: 1) Ripster looks like he belongs in another toy line; maybe Hanna-Barbera’s Jabberjaw on steroids. I understand it’s a concept, but this would not have drawn me in as a kid. 2) Karkass looks kind of like he fits in with the old line, but looks plane and not interesting to me at all. Wouldn’t pay $75 for that. 3) Clambo looks like he fits pretty well with the old line. I really like him, especially because I always wanted a Clammando figure, from the show, as a kid. They should have started with a version of the original characters and figures and then done these later. Hopefully, their not deciding whether or not to continue this line based on the sales of these 3 figures.
@8LeaferStudios3 жыл бұрын
I heard them mention on the site that they stayed with the simple track suit for Karkass from the sketch to fit in with the regular yet athletic clothes the original street sharks wore. Not sure if that was the best idea but that is how he looks in the sketch. Also Jabberjaw on steroids is word-for-word what I said too lol

I think the high price point is because if there is only 3000 of these being made, (which is not our choice) the costs must be really high! There is only usually about 20% max profit on modern figures In general for retailers, so for $225,000 dollars that mattel will get if sold out would be interesting how much they are actually making. @@LauraLegends The name is literally a Japanese shortening of soft vinyl (sofuto biniiru) and refers to a manufacturing style for toys that was primarily employed in Japan from the 60s to the 90s, before hard plastic became more common, and is often associated these days with designer or indie toymakers.
@clumsyspacemonster59443 жыл бұрын
@@LauraLegends It's a blanket term used to describe soft vinyl toys produced in Japan. Nowadays, most sofubi figures are made for the collector market and are known for their artistic sculpts and bright vibrant colors. These toy companies can stick any label on a mediocre toy just to charge a ridiculous price for it ,because they know it's not a hobby any more it's an addiction. You are buying the label ,like $200 jeans. But a bigger question remains, will toys soon become too expensive for the average collector when a average toy goes for $100 from a company like Mattel ( that has never been premium) and Hasbro puts out $400 figures? Ofcourse we are to blame with our addictive behavior fueled by social media and the flippers wanting to make a quick buck. I have to ask the community is this what we want our beloved hobby to become...something only the rich can enjoy ? Don't they have everything else ?
@emerje03 жыл бұрын
The price isn't ideal, but for a 1000 piece run on molds that they'll likely never use again it's probably the right price to cover the production, mold tooling, packaging and make a profit. I'm surprised they aren't soft if they're calling them sofubi since soft vinyl is, you know, soft and usually hollow. It comes with a bag as a bonus because sofubi toys are generally sold in bags instead of boxes or bubble carded.
@Tim85-y2q3 жыл бұрын
That's the elephant in the room I think that some people don't always get. Sometimes you're not paying strictly based on the quality of the piece but also are paying a premium to make an extremely niche product economically viable.
