I was a huge Laura Marling fan around the 'alas I cannot swim' era. Cannot believe how good she has become. Imagine if all artists became more refined and insightful as they aged. This is genius.

L Y R I L L I'm struggling to understand your point here. This performance is relatively stripped back. You could draw comparisons to hundreds of singers. It's not typical anyone really, certainly not James Blunt. I'm amazed by the soulfulness and emotion in the voice. Beirut use vocals to portray emotion better than anyone but their lyrics are much more vague. Laura's are specific and still in harmony with the music and vocals. It's just beautiful. She has mastered her skill as a singer songwriter.

This song took me back to a very stuffed event in my life. The clashing drums just seemed to resonate with a point in my life when I was on an emotional overdrive. Through this song I was able to look back on those days with a compassionate and sympathetic outlook. There is resounding relevance in this song that synchronises with my nostalgic self.

jeeze, that windy rotary delay on the percussion feels so good through headphones. all her new stuff feels more conscious to the space available in stereo recording, like it's been recorded and mixed directly to tape and utilized that space. there's a real warmth to it and i'm rly excited for the record

That snare sound youre talking about? It drove me INSANE trying to figure out how to get that sound. What effects were used. How to tension the head. I couldn't figure it out. So I asked my Sweetwater sales manager rep I buy from. Hes a studio engineer. He didnt know. So I messaged one of the drummers on the album, Matt Chamberlain. He actually responded and if I recall, said that Matt Ingram used a Mastro snare. A 1950s/60s beginners snare that bridged the gap between toy and real instrument. Its apparently a well kept secret in the drum tech world. So I've bought 4 of them. Its my favorite snare sound I've ever heard and all the parts are proprietary. Time won't be kind with keeping them in good order, so I will. Even the tension rods are proprietary. When I get one of mine tuned up like this, I'll revisit this page and show you.

:) To be honest, I mentioned Joni Mitchell as a joke, trying to understand who's the mysterious 'BD' Nimil. S was referring to. However, I know what you mean about being pretty bad with comparisons between different musicians
@alinethome40648 жыл бұрын
I assume they meant Bob Dylan? I'm not sure I'd claim their music is particularly similar, but he's the only BD I can think of in the folk tradition that's important enough to merit that sort of comparison to. Plus, they do share in being often praised for their lyrics and liking to experiment with genre.

Tosh. These are graphics created from assemblies of drawing symbols used to denote specific objects in technical drawings (primarily electrical). They appear to be ISO or BSI related. Neat idea because it uses symbols that are used to avoid confusion for creating mystical looking objects.

I can't put my finger on it but she sounds identical to some other singer. It could be just this song as I've never heard any others by her and it's particular in the early parts of the song when she's kind of talk-singing rather than the later parts where she goes into falsetto. Who am I thinking of? It could be Sheryl Crow in the verses of All I Wanna Do but I have a feeling there's someone even more specific....

Good, up until the expected middle 8 section. An artist such as Laura Marling should have the courage to break away from conventional, obvious song structures, as Fiona Apple did on The Idler Wheel Is Wiser than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More than Ropes Will Ever Do.
