To make the G to G7 easier, use an alternate fingering for the G. Keep finger 1 (index) unused, finger 2 on the low E fret three, finger 3 on the A string fret 2, and finger 4 (pinky) on the high E string fret three to form the chord with the same voicing as in the lesson. Using this fingering, shifting to the G7 is easy - Put finger 1 down on the high E string on fret 1 and lift finger 4. Hard to say, not hard to do.

G-G7,…here’s a thought,..instead of playing the G with your 1st finger on the 5th A-string 2nd fret for the B note , finger 2 on the 6th-low E-string for the G note and finger 3 on the 1st high E-string,…use your 2nd finger in place of your 1st finger, 3rd finger in place of your 2nd finger and your 4th(pinky) in place of your 3rd/ring finger,…from this alternate fingering for the G-chord it is an easy switch to the G7 chord,…also,.if you really like playing the Eagles,..using this alternate fingering will allow you to play 2 chords shapes essential to Eagles songs like Take it Easy and Lyin Eyes,…. Type of C-chord,….c12,…(forgive me if that is wrong) High E 3-G-note, B 1-C, G open, D 2-B-note, A x-, Low E 3-G-note ,…by picking up your 1st and 2nd fingers you will here that very Eagles sound,.. Then ,…High E 3-G-note, B 1-C, G 2nd fret A-note, D open , A x-, Low E 3-G-note ,…D7 I think,…this is used in Take it Easy,…G-C12-D7 and on Lyin Eyes when it goes to the chorus , G-C12 on and off,.. I don’t know why I wrote this I guess I felt inspired so I hope this helps and brings a smile to someone’s face.

“We do have to change our entire hand position. Unfortunately there is no easyvway to switch from G to G7.” Say what?!? 🤔 Play G chord with pinky on 1st string, ring finger on 6th string and middle finger on 5th string. Change to G7 by lifting pinky off 1st string 3rd fret and placing index finger on 1st string 1st fret. Easy peasy! Everyone should learn to play a G chord like that since so many songs alternate between G chord and C chord also. Makes for a very easy transition between chords
