In this next installment of Everything You Need to Know, we cover natural diamonds, lab grown diamonds and moissanites.
Choosing your center stone is one of the most important steps of the ring creation process. At Lauren B, we offer three beautiful options - natural diamonds, lab grown diamonds, and moissanites. All three present unique qualities that make them attractive to different individuals. Today we are going to break down each option to help you figure out which fits your ideal engagement ring.
At first glance and from a distance they might look identical but upon closer inspection you will notice that one stone from each grouping looks different. While the first two are both diamonds, they were formed very differently; one is mined from the earth and the other is created in a laboratory. The outlier is a moissanite which is also created in a lab but has different optical properties than a diamond, most notably more fire and sparkle.
Keep watching this video to find out which center-stone type is right for you; natural diamond, lab grown diamond or moissanite.

Time to grow up and realize you are being duped with the fake value of diamonds. If I can build a Mercedes in my garage in 2 days that's identical to the 100K one on the showroom floor, that means that 100k price tag is fraud. Things with true value can't be replicated so easy.

I saw a ring on Etsy and fell in love. Had the ring picked even before the man! I didn’t pay much attention to what type of stone it had, I just knew it was beautiful and perfect. Before we ordered it, however, I did look a little into moissanite and the more I found out, that happier I was that my dream ring has it as a center stone. I honestly think it’s a no brainer. I would have been open to any stone really but the price of even lab grown diamonds is outrageous and nonsensical and the rest just aren’t hard enough. I do have some small diamonds as accents on the ring and there’s quite a few on the actual wedding band but that’s only because Charles and Colvard (the company our ring maker deals with) only makes moissanite of a certain size. Choose whatever you like and don’t let anyone else tell you what you should wear. If diamonds are your thing than you go for it and I hope you cherish them forever. Personally, I’m a moissanite girl all the way.

@asuarezjd
@asuarezjd Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the information and I agree, in fact, it took me about ten years, but I finally bought a lab diamond for my wife and I was able to afford what I would have never had if it was mined. I say ten years because I have been paying attention and I am noticing how people are slowly transitioning. First, my cousin who is an avid lover of diamonds and has resources as well. She purchased a lab diamond years ago and what is interesting is that instead of concealing that detail, she brings it up as if proud that it is a lab diamond. She feels better knowing there is no risk slavery or abusive practices were applied, and no pristine land was violated and destroyed in the process. And, hers is a CVD, so it is pure, 100% carbon, colorless and absolutely stunning. In fact, the only way to know would be spending tens of thousands of dollars in equipment most jewelers do not have, to then analyze the gases inside the stone to figure out if it is mined (gas compositions 100 miles inside the Earth, or nitrogen and methane used in CVD. Yet, it s nothing different than a diamond. My analogy is that 100 years ago, gentlemen bought flowers for ladies on the street, from girls who picked up the flowers from nature, in other words, their local fields. Now, they buy them in stores that get them from green houses, controlled environments, so they are bigger and in custody while they grow and with fertilizers from bags instead of natural top soils....Nevertheless, they are BOTH flowers, natural flowers, one is not monitored and therefore it is random and the risk makes it less likely that a perfect flower is found, the other is closely watched and protected from diseases, etc. They are both flowers and no lady would ever think twice. And, yes, I am sure that some scientist can test them both and discover the one from the valley/field based on the nutrients and composition, but one is not less a flower than the other. Same with water, you can make ice from the freezer or go outside to the lake and get the ice naturally from the weather. Any idiot knows one will show tap water with fluoride when tested and the other is rain water with some impurities from the lake. THEY ARE BOTH ICE, made form water. Different ingredients, which are not necessary to call it ice are present in both, but what makes it ice, FROZEN WATER, is in each of them. In my case, our diamond was made with care for my wife, and I got to choose exactly how I wanted it to be, look, cut and size. It is as unique and I love that you mentioned the key factor for guys...it is not less valuable, is just that DeBeers hide/control/limit the supply thus artificially raising the market price. So, I would rather pay for what a lab diamond costs (significantly less nowadays and the price seemed to stabilize) because there is labor involved, there is also craftsmanship by perusing the stone, deciding how to cut, polishing, the equipment and energy to make it, etc. We know how much it costs to be profitable to them, rather than be taken for a fool and charge ten times more viciously for a mined when we know it costs actually less since the miner is a pauper who makes $5 a week and is not heavy to ship it to Europe since you could even fit hundreds in your pockets. Hence, I am afraid it costs less to mine a diamond than to produce it, but at least the lab diamond people do not betray our trust.

I still vastly prefer lab grown for either diamond or moissanite. I like both for different purposes. Moissanite has a colder, grey color until the fire hits, then they sparkle very dramatically. Diamonds are a bit whiter. I disdain when people claim that they can tell the difference between lab grown and natural diamonds with the naked eye. Like, no, you really can't. Only difference is it costs less and you don't have to be worried that it was sourced from a mine that doesn't have ethical employment standards. Same is true for synthetic ruby, sapphire, topaz, amethyst, citrine, peridot, and any other gemstone that can be sourced with equivalent aesthetic standards to their natural counterparts. Emeralds are the only one where it is legitimately challenging for synthetics to be produced with aesthetic standards that match or exceed naturals. And synthetic is really the only way you'll be getting certain gemstones like tanzanite.

Diamonds don't take millions of years. Natural diamonds with the right neural conditions can be formed in weeks to months. Question for you market story tellers. How long does carbon last for? How can diamonds have carbon in them if carbon lasts for only..... I'll let you look at that. It is a lie that the industry tells I order to have a very high price. Natural diamonds do are beautiful and can stay in the ground for a while. And it takes a lot of work to cut them..but there are a lot of diamonds. Well balanced presentation; fair and truthful. They are all pretty. A Mined diamond is still the most precious stone, and the only that holds its original value. I recently learned, and was surprised to hear that manufacturers of lab diamonds, refuse to buy their manufactured diamonds back. In the past, most people didn't sell their diamond, but it is nice to know a mined diamond can fetch a significant amount, due to their higher and steady resell value.

The only thing that will "hold its value" is a large bar of gold. You've been duped if you think you can resell a real diamond for anything close to its purchase price... Even diamonds get damaged over time. Prices are marked up by jewellers to thousands as sale value only, they do not buy them back from consumers when wholesalers have plenty. You could fetch maybe something like $50 at a pawn shop and even then it's usually the gold it's in that the value is based on. Diamonds have enormous sentimental value of course and most people don't actually attempt to sell them... Like with most things it's companies that make money from marketing them not us.

Just FYI, i ordered the Harro Gem elongated cushion and the Charles and Colvard. Harro Gem has different sizes and has the cut called a "diamond cut" which looks amazing. I highly recommend it. There is something called a crush ice cut that is also beautiful but i think there is an issue with the stone showing a haze or something under certain lighting conditions. The Charles and Colvard has boring brilliant cuts which sparkles but kind of boring.

@SavageJoker moissanite gives off a lot of color sparkle, where as diamonds will give off white light with some color. It's the white light that makes diamonds glimer even if the flashes aren't as intense as a moissanite stone. It's why they're more elegant. I like moissanite but diamonds have a more unique quality in the light it gives off. And it's not dull light it's just not refracted like color is that's why it's not so flashy, rather more glimmer.

@@Yahsbsuq all gemstones have an inherent value due to their properties. Having said that, despite both being made in a lab they’re completely different stones with different properties which is what you’re paying for - not the method of creation. You can make ice cubes in a lab too but that doesn’t make them any more valuable. Lab made moissanites are still just moissanites and carry the inherent value of a moissanite.

@@MasterofLOLsha Both Cz and diamond have equivalent and the same level of rainbow effects, moissanite outshines both in a totally different category of its own. Lab grown diamonds have no resale value. There is no scarcity and are unlimited. That means there can be infinite and if there is infinite value goes down. If your thinking of upgrading later that lab diamond won’t be worth much because there has been hundreds and thousands made after the fact.

natural moissanite was first discovered at bottom of a hole created by a meteor, that's how they're formed, by meteor impacting the earth. They are very rare and only found in tiny specks of 0.1-1.5mm size, the largest ever found is 4.1mm, and they are full of colours and impurities (asteroid hitting the Earth don't really create clean conditions for high purity crystals). So if you find any on sale that is white or clear and larger than a 1mm speck, it's not natural. not sure why you would even want a natural one except as a sample collection.

Moissanite is the loser, also the less expensive. here's the saying: apparently, the lab one is to avoid at all cost. The best deal ever is that black bracelet, 2 row all around, small natural diamonds. That bracelet is better looking than any size of lab grown. you have to take your time, it can take years to chose.
