Just a pro tip from an upholsterer/custom boot maker... If you spray aerosol silicone spray on your table/sewing machine bed and wipe with a piece of t-shirt your materials that stick will slide, it will last quite awhile also, a quick spray on a rag and wipe down will get you through a small project.

El Michelle , thank you, that is a fantastic idea! Anyone who does paint pours with acrylic will have silicone oil. Just a tiny bit of that will do the same thing I would think, what say you?

Thanks for the idea for a simple project. Love the fabric! A helpful tip for working with clear vinyl is to place a piece of tissue paper between the vinyl and the sewing machine and then it just tears away after you sew and it keeps the vinyl from sticking. I use the tissue scraps that come with the interfacing.

7:35 The first rotary cutter was introduced by Olfa in 1979. The guy who sold me my sewing machine showed me a book his mom wrote on quilting right before the rotary cutter was introduced and adopted by quilters and each piece had to be hand cut. 😅
@susanmei9980

Vanessa Mtz, Yep. Cut the templates out of cardboard or sandpaper; hand cut each & every little piece. I was going to say, probably sometime in the 1980’s, because my first quilting class was 1981, (quilting was just starting to come back in style) and we (students & teacher) had not yet heard about the rotary cutters and acrylic rulers. But as soon as I did, I bought them! That changed everything! Especially the clear rulers, which are a huge help for all kinds of sewing & crafting. Before that, rulers you couldn’t see through. (How archaic, lol. But seriously, so annoying!). And of course, the rotary cutter, so MUCH faster & more accurate (although there was a learning curve to hold it properly while cutting) and I was terrified at first I was going to cut myself, but I never did, am always careful. I still have my original 28 mil Olfa cutter, & then added a Fiskar’s ergonomic 45 mil, and they’re both still going strong - I still use them. Didn’t realize it had been so long, lol! Still have my original acrylic ruler too, although I’ve upgraded those as they’ve improved leaps & bounds, esp. thicker & better markings. Wow, I think I’m officially vintage, lol!😬

You are the bomb. Can I tell you how long I have been trying to learn about Vinyl and fabric just like this, in general. I make jewelry and like to include some fun stuff but I don't want to dig deep and learn all of it for the few times I use it. I wind up just giving up and never actually making anything. It's a hassle. I have seen countless tutorials and they say "buy vinyl sheets" "get fabric, all types, at stores that sell it" omg. Finally someone said something that I can use and really make something ..Thank youuuuu! Wish I found you first.

Your instructions/directions may move a bit quickly for a brand new novice sewer, however you answered every question that popped into my mind. (Novice sewers, just watch it a couple times. There’s LoTS of great info) Your tutorial is the best I’ve watched in a long time. Thank you for including thickness of the clear vinyl, length of stitch as well as your seam allowances. I wouldn’t have remembered to lengthen my stitch until after I got started... and then I would have perforated the clear vinyl. Also, thank you for not including a long introduction into your ‘life story’ or cheesy music. (Hey Ben, Cool 🐈)

Just found your you tube and think your instructions are very detailed and can’t wait to try and make one. Love that you are using the vinyl I bought the annies one isn’t that easy to get here in Australia. A tip for cutting the vinyl is to use an older rotary cutter (I use a sharpie on the blade to write blunt) not the brand new one as the vinyl blunts the blade. Also please please remember to close your blade every time. My first patchwork class I had a nurse and she told us she had seen so many people with toes cut off from dropping the blade on their toes. It was a good habit to get into. Also the same for the scissors. I now know why my mum used to scream not my good scissors when I was a kid. Where did you get the cool zips? I also have a roller you can use to finger press . I have liked and subscribed to your channel and look forward to watching more videos from you. From Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
