Apollos don’t show up separately to make an aggravate device. They need to daisy chain. What I found is just because a cable has the correct connector doesn’t mean it will do the job. Data doesn’t travel further than 6 ft on thunderbolt 2 cables. So they don’t make them longer. db-25 cables closer to the mixer saved money but made it harder to connect to the older apollos. My solution? Buy a thunderbolt 3 card, update the connections on the apollo 8 and use a long thunderbolt 3 cable. Thanks everybody.

@@coziay7201 I don't know how it compares to the SSL sound but I wanted something that wouldn't need constant repair. Plus it doesn't have a big noisy power supply. I don't know much about Apollo, but are you able to connect them via optical? I don't know if that will cut your I/O in half depending on the sample rate ( for getting the rest of your analog gear in) Something to consider maybe. Or even just a simple I/O like you said to just be able to get to your hardware.
@LaurenPassarelliАй бұрын
The apollo 8 has optical. The x16 doesn’t. I found out that all cables aren’t created equal. They look the same but are made specifically for applications. A long cable with the right connections don’t work. I may have saved money on shorter db-35 cables being told to move the x16s closer to the mixer but i can’t find a long thunderbolt 2 cable. So now i think it’s move the apollo 8 closer and use longer balanced outs to the patch bay or pay for the thunderbolt 3 card and change the connection on the back of the apollo 8. What a silly waste of time sorting this out. 😂

Love the console. Getting used to the smaller size sharing EQ. I had a 5 ft long Studiomaster Trackmix 32 years ago. It's fun to play with. I just updated to some Apollo 16s and everything is flowing to the console easier. It doesn't have a noisy large power supply either.

Also ideally all the interfaces should be synced to the same Clock source (I use Word Clock with T adapters and Terminators in the appropriate places in the system)
@LaurenPassarelliАй бұрын
Yes and Apollo is so cool it does all of that internally.
@G_handleАй бұрын
I know UAD Interfaces are a bit different than others in that they "Aggregate" internally. I think this is because they need to synchronize the I/O as well as the DSP. However, in Audio MIDI Setup on the Mac, will it allow you to create an Aggregate with all four Apollos? or if they show up, what I/O count do they give individually? or are some being joined by UA Console and not others? I don't have any recent experience fighting UAD, all of mine just play nice, but they're all the same generation. Aggregates are what I'd try though if I were you. Two other notes: A) Those Adams and their Ribbon Tweeters don't wanna be sideways. Adams higher end monitors come in H & V versions for horizontal and vertical because those ribbons are directional B) I'd advise considering getting a new Base Model Mac Mini. The latest M4 base has ridiculous amounts of processing for $600 bucks, and Laptops move, Desktops stay put especially with All of that I/O & processing. If you're concerned about your legacy plugins, most of everything runs Apple Silicon now, and everything modern is sooooo much faster on the new machines.

So what’s the update ….is this solved …looking at Apollo interface or the antelope galaxy
@LaurenPassarelli24 күн бұрын
I looked into getting a Galaxy as well. I chose 2 older x16s for the same money and so much more: internal syncing, all my UA plugins and extra I/O. I just needed a thunderbolt 2 cable but they don't make them that long. So I could have moved my 3rd apollo closer to the other 2, but I didn't want to disconnect it out of my patch bays and then need longer patch bay cables. * I bought the UA Apollo thunderbolt 3 card and that allowed me to use a loooong thunderbolt 3 cable and all works perfectly now.
