Pin curls on long hair and fine hair should be treated differently. The same goes for medium hair and thick hair. In today’s vintage hair tutorial video, learn how to alter your pin curl set for different hair textures to create an adorable vintage pin curl wave.
Today’s vintage hairstyle is inspired by 1940s actress Joan Leslie. I saw this 1940s vintage hairstyle photo online and immediately fell in love with the curls and waves.

This came out just in time for me!! My hair is fairly long and thick so when I do my pin curls the top always looks weird and now I know it was because I had too much hair in that section. Going to try it again with what I have learned in this video😊 I am super excited to show the results to my grandmother😍 Your video was very well constructed, just like your video.

THANK you 👍 for addressing this topic! It was one of the hardest things for me to figure out in vintage hairstyling. 😳☺️ I learned the hard way what you showed here, that thick hair usually requires less pincurls (and even rag rollers). Seeing the specific differences in pincurl settings was eye-opening! I really hope you'll be able do some more vintage hairstyle videos focusing on techniques for various hair types. Thanks for helping us continue to learn and improve!

I am in my later 60’s and my hair is thin. I am going to grow my bangs out. My hair was very long and I cut 14” off. Now my hair comes to my collar bone. Can you do more videos using pin curls for thin hair. I’m trying pin curls in my hair for the very first time tonight. I only had bobby-pins. It doesn’t look good. We’ll see what happens in the morning. Now to find my scarf. Loved your video.

This is lovely. I'm at the end of my tether with my hair. I'm naturally going grey & have balding very thin hair. I'm 43, I dress vintage but am at a loss with my hair. The grey is awful & won't smooth into a curler. If I pin curl, heated rollers, overnight wet set, handmade curlers. You name it I've tried it. It just never looks sleek anymore. No salon will do a middy cut for me. I've sight issues so can't even see the bCk of my hair. I have a natural curl so I've started wearing it like that to give rollers a break, but doesn't matter what I do my hair falls out daily. I'm in uk & at a loss of what to do. Maybe a perm to control the grey, no idea. Lovely video.

Hi, I am not a professional, but have grey, thinner hair now. If I were you I would not perm my hair at all, but if you are going to, just get a gentle body wave. Probably not the store bought. Did this video here help you? I am just getting ready to brush my hair out, after doing my own pin curls. I had not found this instructional earlier today. Good luck! Thinning might be a nutritional deficiency.

I had the very long and thick hair 5 weeks ago but decided to have it cut to a layered lob which looked like the medium mannequin example, still kind of regretting it as a I really thought you NEEDED to have shoulder or shorter length for vintage styles, I just got so frustrated trying to roll up waist length hair into a victory roll

This was wonderful! Thank you:) I am on the eve of my Seventyith Birthday and wonder if you can help me with a couple of questions about my medium length grey, silver, white hair? The texture is courser and the quantity of hair is shrinking, especially around my temples and at the small cowlick in the middle of the top of the back of my head. Yes, I use my phone to take pix of it. I think I look like the beautiful seasoned women I’d see at early services in church. Artfully applied make-up, gorgeous to look at square in the face and beautiful profiles, but, the back looked like they slept on it. I am trying to ward that off for as long as 😮 😅😂 possible. Would you consider posting a video for pin curls all over the head without a brush out, think Shirley Temple without the ringlets, just pulling fingers through the hair so it’s curly all over. I am new to your channel, please forgive me if you’ve posted a tutorial and I missed it. Thanks again for the instructions and the kindness. Patricia Z

I dressed vintage for a while a few years ago. I started working a physical job and can't/don't wear a vintage hairdo. I didn't dress vintage for a very long time because of this. I'm still working a manual job, but I've been sewing my own vintage outfits for a while now. When I was on my hiatus, I wanted to try a hairstyle that was very popular when I was in highschool, 2012-2015. I decided to shave the side of my head. I was going for like a skrillix look, or Avril lavine or something. I've had it for about a year but I don't much care for it, so I'm trying to grow it out. I have an area about 2-3" radius around my left ear that was shaved. It's still very short, and I've been doing a middle part to help cover it as it grows back in. Do you have any tips for vintage styling while this grows back in? Or just curl, fluff, center part and use a snood? The rest of my hair goes past my shoulders about 2 or 3 inches.

I do have plans for some ways I set my hair soon, but for now, I use magnetic rollers in various sizes depending on how curly I want my hair. I usually use either 5/8", 7/8" or 1". store.vintagehairstyling.com/lovely-lady-magnetic-hair-rollers/ At the back of my neck below the line of my ears, where the hair is shorter and doesn't stay on a roller as well, I use Self-grip rollers in 1/2" size. store.vintagehairstyling.com/self-gripping-rollers/

Wonderful video, helps so much! Question though... I have baby fine hair and it's thin; the bobby pins always leave a crease. I've tried several different clips and there is always a crease. Ive read that hair pins are better but I cant find any videos on how to use them. Do you have suggestions that might help? Thank you!! ❤❤
@ifyouloveChristyouwillobeyhim
@ifyouloveChristyouwillobeyhim 2 ай бұрын
Practice sticking the pins in is slow motion; as you begin to press them in, wiggle them in a slight up-and-down motion, like a dolphin, or a boat on the waves, or a shuttle going through the loom. This will essentially "sew" the pin into your hair rather than it being stuck straight in. Again, the motion is very slight and it's an up-down motion, not a left-right motion. The tip should be moving up and down, the end in your hand should be moving up and downn but the middle should not be moving up and down (think of the pin as a little see-saw). If you don't understand at first, try it multiple times, maybe try it with an exaggeratedly long pin at first.

How about vintage styling tips for naturally curly hair? If I pin curl my hair it turns into a huge poofball
@ifyouloveChristyouwillobeyhim
@ifyouloveChristyouwillobeyhim 2 ай бұрын
You don't need to add any curlers. Just wash your hair less often to reduce the poof (if you are worried about hygene wear a head covering while doing messy work), and carefuly style. It is all about the length of your hair, your haircut, and the way that you manipulate the curls as shown in this video.
