Great video! Important to note, using both M.2 slots means you lose use of 2x of the normal SATA hdd ports as per the manual. Something to consider if you have lots of drives. However if you use just 1x nvme m.2 you can retain use of all 6x SATA hdd ports.

I just got this board and even using one of them, you lose a SATA hard drive port. Now the quality is excellent, as are the heat syncs and presentation. Now the way I’ve gotten around this is an M2 PCI Express adapter. Using a 750 Watt Corsair Vengeance, I’m powering this setup: When I think of this build, it’s overkill for everything normal, but my goal has always been the ideal emulation build. One that doesn’t need plugins to create simulated performance, but rather real 1:1 emulation of the Dreamcast and PS2 with more grunt on top for double frame rates. Right now the specs are: MSI gaming plus z390 MPG 9700K Safely overclocked to 4.8ghz on all cores Noctua NH-D15 CPU cooler Arctic Silver Ceramique 2 Thermal Paste 1 Tb M2 SATA SSD (Through the PCI Express Adapter) 2 512 gb Samsung SSDs 2 4 Tb 7200rpm western digital drives 2 2 Tb 5400 rpm western digital blue drives 2 Nvidia 1070 Ti gpus 32 gb DDR4 Ram Asus Zonar DSX 5.1 Sound Card 4 Ports SATA 6G PCI Express Controller This is used to power my 2 LG 16X Internal Blu-ray/DVD/CD Writers The main reasons for the large number of drives is not Raid, it’s due to having a massive collection of games for Sega Saturn, Playstation One, Dreamcast, PS2, PS3 Wii and WiiU that I’ve copied from their original discs to my PC to play via emulation. I also hold onto a lot of my older and newer PC games and do a lot of video editing for my KZbin channel, as well as professional graphic design and storing both my traditional and digital illustration work. All of these drives are backed up to 4 different external 4Tb Western Digital Passport drives.

Obviously for aesthetically pleasing purposes.. If you have a powerful PC why would you not want to show it off? And as for the "distraction" part, one can simply turn the lights off on most rgb devices.. Even when I have the lights on I don't see a distraction... Why would I focus on lights in the middle of a game? I would easily focus on what's more important..

Ive got the same board and running my i5 9600k at 5.1ghz / 4.8 ring on air, can prob push it further with water cooling, its a great mobo - good for overclocking. I prefer gigabyte or maybe asus when im not overclocking though. If overclocking go for msi

@@calebcris9096 no changes to voltage set to auto, cpu multiplier 51, ring 48, bclk 100mhz, msi mpg z390 mobo - not sure if itll work for a different mobo or cpu but its just trial n error really just experiment with different multipliers and then try to get the ring as close to the multiplier as possible, i use cpu z stress test to make sure its stable but theres prob better solutions out there, i just use it cause its quick - lmk your specs if poss

How does i5 9400f sound, instead of having 9600k whose igd is of no use to you with your gtx 1660 ti, plus, you would save a 100 usd by using 9400f which is just 8% slower than 9600k, so just save money if you can

Solid, solid board! This thing has stood up where the Gigabyte Z390 Elites and Pros let me down in terms of reliability. I've had my Z390 MPG Gaming Plus for close to a year now, and I'm super pleased with it. I wish we had ARGB, but that's my only complaint. I shelled out far more money for Gigabyte boards simply for the ARGB, but I was let down every single time.

Im building with this now I used the lower m.2 for my drive but am trying to figure out which sata ports to use for my other 2 hard drives..the chart is confusing..sorry first time builder. I’m late with this video, but I’ve got a i5 8600k with an GTX 1660 and 16gb of ram. I had initially bought a gigabyte aorus z390 elite but it got lost in shipping coming from china. I bought this motherboard with i9 9900k but max cpu tdp is around 130W. Although i9 9900K can go up to 250W. So it doesnt give enough juice for my cpu? Also i have overheating problem for the vrms. I put an expensive fan on top of the motherboard.

you mentioned the close proximity to the pci slot and the backplate of the graphicscard as an issue causing heat throttling on the mk2 cards. how much off an issue is this in reality? and it should be possible to install a sdd with a heat spreader isnt it? also isnt this the location where all current z390 boards have a mk2 slot?

So, having a m2 ssd heat shield would mostly solve the problem. No, some other mobos have vertical m.2ssd mounts or alternative placement (as in Maximus XI Hero)
