There iz loss of life & limb ( Han Solo - kinda sorta died & Luke kinda sorta, lost his hand. ) 12 noon til 3pm/June & July. 6 - Now itz da son of a Sithz turn 2 teach his dad, redemption, BUTT Luke had 2 grow n wisdom, nstead of wisdumb. His need 2 fight & win, wuz not azz mportant 2 him, azz redeeming his father, da Sith Lord. 3pm til 6pm/July & August. 7 - da sun, wuz bginning 2 hide, BUTT peephole, didn't catch da clue. 6pm til 7pm/September & October. 8 - Da sunz heat, has waned. He iz cold & distant & no longer, his 4mer, hot & firey self! ( How dare he!!! [ DUH Director, write such a lame-azz, Luke Skywalker?!? ] Dis iz how. ) 8pm til 9pm/November. 9 - Da sun iz dead, BUTT we look 4ward 2 a New Year/New bginningz. 9pm til 12midnite/December. Mario Gómez Wow. I seriously can't believe how someone could become such an arrogant piece of shit.

I've just pointed out the truth. Have you seen his kids? Letting one of your daughters get well over 200 lbs is bad parenting 101, specially when you've got unlimited money and you've supposedly retired to take care of your children. Regarding Amanda, her career choice was... pro fighting, getting arms like those of a truck driver in the process. Say what you want about "chasing your dreams", but that reeks of daddy issues. And yes, adoption as a single parent is a selfish decision, one incidentally taken by many billionaires who think no one's good enough to raise children alongside them. So yeah, "I want to be remembered as a great dad" is a great answer in an interview, but he being one in the real world? Not very likely, really.

@@BeardLAD You’re seeing things that aren’t there my friend. Almost everybody doesn’t realize that it wasn’t just all the extra scenes and cgi added in the special editions, but also all the effects that have aged so well actually weren’t like that originally. Everything got massively enhanced and upscaled to look much better, but nobody ever talks about those changes because they assumed it was always like that since you were less cynical as a kid and didn’t notice all the flaws. Lucas actually did release the original editions on DVD once but with all the weird outdated effects. The truth is every single version of the Star Wars movies that have ever existed are available to watch. So what you actually want is a version that doesn’t exist, a version that has none of the changes Lucas made except for the ones you didn’t even know were changes. Lucas is the arbiter of Star Wars. It’s his life, his passion, his story. He has the right to change his movies however he wants. And before you pretend this is about preserving film history or whatever, this is something big directors do all the time with DVD releases. People just notice it with Star Wars because they’re fanatic about it. Also, Lucas made just as many changes with the prequels but you probably don’t even know or care since you don’t like those movies of course. So this isn’t about Lucas making the original versions unavailable, nor is it about preserving film history. So what is this really about? I think this is about you wanting to recapture a certain nostalgic feeling you got when you saw the movies as a kid, but you never once considered that this was also about George Lucas and the vision that he wants to tell. So when the films aren’t exactly identical to the ones from your childhood, you think something is wrong and even try to make believe that he tainted the originals somehow. But in reality, all the wonder and imagination from the originals are still there in the prequels in spades and the originals were merely improved to age better with time. You’re just not as open minded as when you were a kid. Nothing could’ve ever met your impossibly high expectations of rekindling the magic of your childhood. And of course millions of people have shared this same lapse in logic about Lucas as you, and a disgusting cottage industry has arose on the internet in the last 20 years dedicated to demonizing George Lucas simply for making movies you didn’t like, which led to him ultimately selling the movies to Disney and more or less retiring from filmmaking. And look what we got: creatively bankrupt, hodgepodge, cookie cutter at best, soulless, counterfeits of films, mass produced by a committee that studies analytics to decide what’s the most ‘accessible for general audiences’ so that they can make enough money. So much better right? So much better than the prequels which were oozing with creativity and beautifully impeccable landscapes of planets they go to in each movie, with all the same rich, timeless themes about fathers and sons, the struggle between the temptation and balance of the soul, the duloagy of life, and there always being another side to the story (the prequels of course being the ultimate other side to the story), that were present in the originals. Lucas never changed, you did. (Forgive me if I made any assumptions about your opinions on Star Wars but this comment wasn’t necessarily aimed at you specifically but at the entire culture of people who disrespect George Lucas in spite of him making some of the best movies of all time).

He's like Walt Disney. He's a brilliant story teller and a once in a generation mind for big picture and scene by scene understanding. But he's a terrible director and and even worse writer. Phantom Menace is, without doubt, the worst of all of the Star Wars movies. Its possibly one of the worst movies ever made, and Lucas wrote and directed it. Carrie Fisher said that Lucas couldn't give direction.
@withonelook19853 жыл бұрын
@emario No. Being a good story teller makes you a good producer. It has nothing to do with directing or writing. Empire Strikes Back is, universally, agreed to be the best Star Wars Film, was neither written nor directed by Lucas. He created the story and was in charge of the overall focus of the film. Thats what a producer does.
@withonelook19853 жыл бұрын
@emario Yes. Im sure. Jar Jar is the worst character ever created. And Jake Lloyd is the worst actor who has ever been cast in a Star Wars film. The political struggle between the Trade Federation and the Naboo is the best part of the entire movie. And as for which movies make sense... none of them do. It would be impossible for 30 star fighters to destroy the Death Star in IV. I will admit the the plot to the sequels is strange, but there aren't any character or actors that just make you want to heave.

After seeing what Disney did the sequels, I can 100% understand where Lucas is coming from. Star Wars thrived because Lucas went against all the Hollywood culture. He didn't care about the money, the corporations, the pointless red tape, the bureaucracy. Lucas just wanted to make a good movie born form nothing but pure imagination that would touch the hearts of audiences everywhere and he succeeded. But everything Disney did was the exact opposite of Lucas. They are a soulless cooperation who were bureaucratic to the core. They didn't care about the story, the character, the legacy, the plan, they just cared about the money and their movies are everything Lucas's Star Wars were not. Even those who criticize the prequels can at least admit they had more heart that all the sequels combined. Man, I feel so bad for George. Star Wars was his baby and the ruined it just to make a quick buck. If I hated the Sequels as much as I did, I can only image how Lucas feels about it.

And Disney was a mammoth, it bought other companies, they had a lot of money and influence. Also, Disney had a Star Wars theme park. And Bob Iger was the CEO. The guy who helped Lucas with the Young Indiana Jones series in the '90s. He trusted him as he trusted Kathleen Kennedy who he knew since the '80s. Lucas was always true to himself and honest. you need to balance the force of movie making, if you lean too much into one you neglect the other, neither will be successful. the art is the entertainment, and the entertainment is profitable. if you make a movie solely to make money, most people can see through the bullshit and eventually your movies wont make any money, but if you make a movie solely to be artsy, people can sniff out the pretentiousness and walk away the same.

George Lucas is a incredibly brilliant man. I think in some ways he's just a regular guy who enjoys being a father, auto enthusiast, mechanic, an affinity for 1950's and 60's Americana. That's where American Graffiti was inspired from. Absolutely loved that film! The other side is this creative visionary genius that captured the world's attention and made us all look up at the stars at night and think about a galaxy from a long time ago and far far away. Thank you George Lucas for sharing your imagination and brilliance with the world. I was 7 years old when Star Wars came out and I've been a fan ever since. I'm not saying he is a bad guy but u dont go and change ur fucking movies 10 to 15 years after u make them and then say they r the true movies. Now when my kids watch star wars they have the see all the bad shit in the original movies and trust me they can notice the shit in the movies and their only 7. I can't wait to see if disney will release the originals because they just bought fox which has the rights to them. PS I think disney is going to fuck them up too. Revenge of the jedi would have been a way better movie but george fucked it up to make more money on toys. by the way if u dont know what revenge of the jedi is it is return of the jedi just a changed story and the reason for their falling out. I actually agree with George Lucas here. When he talks about award shows being about being shows and less about the actual artists that win the awards. I think this is why a lot of artists stopped going entirely. These shows just put these events together not to actually celebrate art, but to get views and pump out the most expensive long commercials every 5 minutes. I felt the host was quite rude a number of times telling George Lucas how he should perceive shows and himself, based on wealth and awards. A lot less conversions about his artistic and story telling side, which I'm far more interested in then conversions about gloat. It seems George doesn't really like talking about that either. He's a real artist.
@alexlippard23602 жыл бұрын
T-Bone I think Charlie Rose was giving Lucas "awards" and "wealth" as a FOIL so Lucas could rebut and express his actual opinions and emotions. Charlie's tone is that of an advocate, a psychologist/friend who goes, "people *say* you are all about the Star Wars toys, wealth, and accolades--but who is the *real* you?" And then creates a safe space to respond. Charlie Rose is (was) a brilliant interviewer, perhaps the best. Also, from personal experience, I can say he was a really nice guy and great listener even with a total stranger like me who isn't famous yet!

It reminds me of Ed Bradley asking Bob Dylan how he felt about having Rolling Stone's "best song of all time," and he just scowled and said, well they change that every week. He didn't even show up for the Nobel Prize. I think when you're at the stratospheric level of Lucas or Dylan, and you see how your work permeates the cultural world, awards _would_ seem silly. Awards are important when they help small and middle level artists immensely, giving them exposure and an audience. If you not only have the biggest audience already, but you've literally changed the culture - nothing is greater than that. No form of recognition. You don't want to offend the awards people paying court to you, especially because you don't actually think you're above them, and thay means you can't be honest and say their praise is an inferior form of recognition and mostly uncomfortable and tedious. It's a hard one to feel sympathy for because it's a bit unimaginable, but I can at least understand it.

You need to look at and understand his early work. He is creative and experimental, clearly intelligent and understands that there is a level of popcorn, bullshit, manipulation and control in the industry he wants to work in (film and storytelling) so what he essentially did was play them to the point where he was wealthy and successful enough to then say - f**k it - I'll do what I want now. And don't forget - government and corporations run the media ultimately and don't like free thinkers at all (read John Lennon's back story and the efforts set against him by those running America towards destroying his character and deportation). It's no surprise at all that Lucas has had negative press. So has Mel Gibson (who tried to take them on). And Shia LaBeouf.

Sadly there seem to be far fewer of the qualities present in the people who have come to claim ownership over the Star Wars name, and perhaps their art reflects that, too.

John Matrixx how can you say all that and then say you loved the last Jedi? I hope you've changed your mind since you originally posted your comment. Tlj was a complete clusterfuck in the worst ways. It killed lukes character and arc. Made him a melodramatic coward who abandoned his sister and almost killed his only nephew. Luke was the guy who saw good in Vader. Easily the 2nd evilest man im the galaxy. And yet he knew the could be redeemed. And yet that same man nearly killed a child in his sleep becssue of the bad thoughts inside bens mind? Total bs. Nvm the fact that it completely through out everything tfa set up and derailed the entire trilogy. All so Rian Johnson could subvert the audiences expectations. Killing snoke like he was nothing. Reys parents are absolutely nobody. How did maz get anakins lightsaber? Doesmt matter. Who and the knights of rem? Knights of who says Rian Johnson? The whole movie plot revolved around 1 long slow speed chase. Nvm the fact that he gave us the most egregious examples of breaking universal laws and lore with the light speed battering ram. The last jedi will forever be the black mark on the SW universe. And fans everywhere lament over the movie. And the eventual husk sw is and will become. And i didnt even mention a quarter of all the problems that movie has. Like foreal not even 25%. Plus the whole canto bight subplot was a complete waste of everyone's time. And yet a quarter or more of the movie was spent on showing us capitalism is evil. Child labor is bad. Animal abuse is bad. War profiteering is evil. Save the animals nvm the child slaves we left behind. We saved a bunch of animals who will without a doubt be captured later. And who's gonma have to clean up all the crap Finn and rose made? The child laborer. But nvm the kid was shouting woooh so we know it's okay he's fine. Plus there's luke practically sucking at the tit of a disgusting sea cow. Totally essential and integral to the movies plot. The whole movie is 1 giant fuck you to all the loyal fans who made aw as popular as it is today. Rian Johnson and Kathy Kennedy should both be barred from ever having anything to do with anything even remotely sw. Sincerely a pissed off fan of SW. Oh and btw. I loved the OT and the prequel. It’s really fascinating to me that in the early 70’s George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Brian de Palma, Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese were all buddies and hung around w/ each other and look what each of them became. Someone needs to write a book about how this crew hung around together in the 70’s before any of them were big time and each of them made an enormous impact in the movie business. There’s no question that is a reason why they all became so successful. They were all trying to one up each other on each movie they made. Someone write that book. How’d they all meet? Where’d they hang out together? What’d they think of each other? Who’s the smartest? Who’s the most gifted? I’d read that book if someone wants to go write that.

Interesting to note: one of the reasons people think they’re so successful has do to with that competitive-ness you mentioned. They weren’t competitive with each other at all, really. They never thought, “If I’m to succeed, you must fail.” That line of thinking is what a lot of filmmakers today think, and it’s the death of collaboration. These men went to school together and worked together immediately afterwards. Their competitive drive stems from an idea of, “oh well, you made The Godfather, can you make Jaws? How about Mean Streets? Pretty good, but can you make Star Wars? Move over, I’m gonna make Indiana Jones.” They we’re driving each other. Like the Beatles or something.

Unfortunately, not a lot of conflict comes from that because there never has been a bar against female Jedis, as George has always created an equanimous fantasy world. Also, they kind of forgot to actually tell the story and instead just handed her a lightsaber and said, "now you're a Jedi." The basic elements of drama and the essential conflict are shortchanged or are abandoned altogether for the sake of style and nostalgia. Corporate $$$$$$$$$ grabbing at its finest! Man I love George Lucas. The main thing you should take away from this is that Lucas "had a story to tell" and that's what Star Wars was all about to him. All the world building, cinematography, innovations, and everything, even the mistakes, came as a result of his own passion around the original idea of Star Wars and the main story. People speculate a lot on how Star Wars has changed since it was bought by Disney, but I seriously believe this is the root of all those changes. Disney is not propelled by a enthusiastic need to tell a story as Lucas was, it is all about money and box office numbers now unfortunately.

I should thank you for this comment. I first read this a month ago, and it motivated me to start working on my own fictional story that I've had stuck in my head for about two years. Seriously, those words "had a story to tell" kinda sunk in for a bit. It was like a revelation for me. I'm just like, "Wait, so if I've had this story idea in my head all this time, all I have to do is just... tell it?" I mean, I don't know how to make movies, but I know how to badly write a story. But after reading this, I spent the whole month creating my own world and it's characters and setting the rules and logic within the universe. It's been difficult and had a lot of changes made, but it's been fun. I'm just a little worried about the storytelling aspect. But it can't be any worse than the Star Wars sequels, can it? Well, maybe it can, because I still think I suck at writing, not that it's gonna stop me because I wanna do it.

New Hope was successful not because Lucas was some"genius"it because he surrounded himself with talented people namely his three editors that took the mess of his 1st cut and did what they could to fix it,had the original cut went out in '77 the film would have failed. The Star War sequels are so praised(mostly just Empire)is because Lucas didn't direct them,but crazy George did have to screw with Jedi by changing Wookiees from the original script to stupid Ewoks to sell more toys.I knew the prequels were going to be bad(I just didn't know how bad)because I'm probability the only person that remember that crazy George had given us the garbage that was Howard the Duck.I only saw Episode 1 for free since someone bought me a ticket and after it left a bad taste in my mouth I refused to watch Episode 2 and Episode 3 in the cinema after that. The original Star Wars Trilogy is a pop culture phenomenon(before crazy George tampered with it)and still is but to have people say the films are flawless are only kidding themselves(seriously did no one notice the battery cable going up Alec Guinness's(Obi Wan)arm to his Light Saber during the Darth Vader fight in New Hope it in all versions even the Special Editions,even crazy George missed it and once you see it you can't un-see it,I bet everybody missed it.)

Because he a true Jedi, hes in control over his emotions, or why the hell do you think he was able to eat all the nonsense hate from all these 40 year old babies crying on the internet about the prequels in the early 2000s?? Everyone would've went to the dark side immediately, not him!

He labels himself as a gentle giant, which is a great feature george is shown to have. He's very laid back and does not anger easily.

LOL imagine reffering to Charlie rose as "this guy is a terrible interviewer"

Say what you will about the prequels... but George is spot on. Copy and paste anyone? Abrams and Disney played it safe. Instead of "telling the story" they aimed exclusively at fans and their nostalgia of the originals. Even to the point of recreating the trench scene. Still loved the movie, but as a fan wanting the story to continue, there were too many cheap or "familiar" shots, specifically designed to replicate the originals. With roughly 30 years in the making... I completely agree with George, it was too retro. In an attempt to recreate everything that made Star Wars great, Disney lost their way and ultimately forgot about the story.

+Flynn's Video Arcade Despite what people say Episode 1 did get a new generation into Star Wars. I doubt the rehash thats episode 7 will bring in many new young fans.

I'm honestly looking forward to the new trilogy. Undoubtedly, there will be a new fan base, Disney made sure of that. That's all well and good, but I would still expect it to be more of what Star Wars is and not what it was. At a certain point it felt almost as if it was meant to be a reboot of sorts. Which seemed, shall I say... "disturbing". ;)

+ALitleBitSpecial I honestly doubt that Episode 1 got a new generation into Star Wars. I watched a lot of stuff when I was kid and bought all the merchandise for it too. But not all of it "stuck" when I grew up. For example old and new Doctor Who just looks like schlock to me these days. But Star Wars stayed, and I think it was because of the strength of the character writing. Something which is not there in the prequels.

+Angel Marley Awww... did someone huyt yu wittle feewings? I must be a horrible person for having a different opinion than you. Your comment speaks volumes of your intellect. Just because you may not like the story line, acting or over use of cgi in the prequels, at least George stuck to the story. They certainly weren't a cash grab or a blatant attempt to reproduce everything that predated them moron.

Charlie’s getting his undies in a bunch because Mr. Lucas is humble. He’s got his priorities in check.

No, Charlie is just an interrogator. That's just his personality.

you know when prequel haters cheered that Lucas sold SW to Disney us true SW fans felt like padme when the Senate cheered at when the Empire was formed "so this is how SW dies, with thunderous applause"

Charlie Rose is a terrible interviewer. It is so frustrating when he keeps interjecting with what he thinks is the correct answer. Just let the man speak ffs.

smart people like George should be interviewed only by their peers. In this case by another director who actually knows what he is talking about, and so can follow the thread.

It's driving me crazy. The part where he was talking about awards was almost an argument. It's like he's trying to get a headline out of Lucas.

No it's like he's trying to convince Lucas to think the Kennedy award is so infinitely wonderful. FU Charlie.

I've checked it, Charlie Rose comes to an interview expecting the people he interviews to confirm his bias or to tell him he's right. He's also hungry for recognition and accolades. He did the exact same thing with Obama. Except Obama talks about geopolitics and just won't let a journalist tell him what's right... So yeah, bad journalism is bad.

Thank you George for your comments about being a Dad. Rich or poor, famous or not, you have articulated what being a good Dad - or one who tries - is all about. It’s the most important thing in the Universe.
