Life, like the wind, shapes our journeys in unexpected ways. Watching your adventures, I see a philosophical dance between human intent and nature's will. Missing the weather window and circling the Faroe Islands twice feels like a poetic reminder: the path we take is often not the one we plan, yet it’s rich with unseen treasures. May Patagonia gift you the same wisdom-whether the wind is gentle or fierce, it carries you forward, filling your sails with strength and discovery. Bon voyage!

I often come back to these beautiful videos. Stunning places and adventures, stunningly put together. On a lighter note I like that you've spelt 'Wales' like the marine mammal on your map near the beginning! Also looks like you might have broken your coccyx on your slide down the hillside at the end there! Hope it wasn't too painful. And thanks again for these - I'm hoping you'll have another amazing (and filmed!) adventure soon.

Just find your channel and LOVE your videos. Storytelling at it's very best. My wife and I have been to the Faroes a couple of times and will go back as soon as we can. Wonderful to see the archipelago from the sea. What kind of drone are you using? And I guess it must be hard to land it on a moving ship. :)
@tupaia2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It was our first time in the Faroes and we loved it. Beautiful landscape and amazing people. We used a Mavic Air 2 for the drone shots. The landing was definitely the most challenging part. I almost lost it after the first shot there (3:37) because of the strong current.
@NiklasKrog2 жыл бұрын
@@tupaia I have an Air 2S - that I almost lost trying to land on a moving whalesafari boat (after filming whales). Taught me a lesson about drones and boats. My wife and I watched your three films in a row. A wonderful experience.

@tupaia Жыл бұрын

@tupaia2 жыл бұрын
Hey Brice !

@tupaia2 жыл бұрын

Wonderful films. One question, what maps do you use in the films and how do you show your routes?
@tupaia2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I create the maps myself (hence the errors in places names sometimes... [sorry wHales!]) in QGIS and create the animation with After Effect. It takes a bit of practice but once you have it, it's very easy. There are tons of KZbin tutorials to help you out. Cheers!

I am interested in the name of your vessel TUPAIA that is the name of a famous Polynesian navigator, I think taken on board by Captain James Cook on one of his voyages around the South Pacific known and highly regarded throughout the South Pacific islands. Did you name your boat and is it referring to him? Can you tell us more about your boat please? Design, length etc,etc Thanks
@tupaia Жыл бұрын
Hi Rick, yes, we named our boat after the Polynesian navigator. He was from the island I grew up on (Raiatea) but I only heard of his story when I started reading about Cook's voyages... We figured it would be a good name for the boat. Also, it's easy to say and spell on the VHF in any country 🙂 Our boat is a Dufour 35, the old model from '74, when they were still heavy-handed on the fibreglass and resin for the hull! She weights about 8t when loaded with supplies and has a "long" fin keel, so she's maneuverable, tracks well, and can easily be balanced. We won't win races but she's very confortable and secure even when the sea get rough. We've been living onboard for more than three years now and made many improvements and repairs each winter. And now she is finally ready for her biggest adventure so far. We are sailing to Patagonia next week, with a few stops along the way! 🤞Thanks for watching the video!
@rickpyne Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply, Why I asked was I have been thinking of renaming my boat, a M&W32 sloop, in honour of this great navigator, but I"m a bit hesitant as I don"t wish to offend any of the peoples on the South Pacific islands I wish to visit, Would that be insulting to these peoples? What do you think? Good luck with your planned voyage , I will watch your upcoming vids. Make sure your boat is bulletproof. Can you make a vid regarding the improvements you have made please? I am just doing a total refit on a bulletproof hull myself and any suggestions would be helpful .@@tupaia

So nice! -- QUESTION -- Can I ask how you came up with the idea of recording your sailing and not having anyone speaking? Such a good idea... Also, what is your destination? Are you doing a circumnavigation? Such a great bunch of sailing videos.
@tupaia2 ай бұрын
Hey Colleen - Thank you! We always liked filming our sailing trips but are pretty uncomfortable in front of the camera? Initially it was for family and friends but then we figured other might be interested too so here we are. Also we are pretty terrible story tellers, so it's better for everyone if we don't speak! We were initially based in Paimpol (France) and travelled during the summer but since Sept 2023 we left for good. The plan after Patagonia is to sailing to French Polynesia, stay for a little while, and then we will see...
