The American artist Laurie Anderson participates in Arctic Imagination - an artistic brainstorm across the Atlantic about the disappearing ice and rising temperatures.
In only 100 years, the Arctic and the North Pole have been transformed from highly dangerous and mysterious peripheral areas into regions that need our protection and sense of responsibility. In 2017, six major libraries in New York, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo and Nuuk are combining in Arctic Imagination in a unique collaboration across the Atlantic, in which a number of high-profile artistic and creative voices will contribute to a global brainstorming within this area.

I got to spend a good part of a day with Laurie at Mason Gross School of the Arts in the early 80s. I sure fell in love. This was before her first record "Oh Superman" and she was kind, inspiring , authentic present and funny. I am so lucky to have had that time with her and to this day I find her to be a treasure. A hero of conscious beauty. Thank you for this.

Oddly, it was her story of accepting our extinction that woke me up, made me set aside my fiction writing, and start fighting harder to save the planet and ourselves. She is likely right, that we are beyond hope, but since we don't know the outcome, I'm going to act in accordance with the belief that we CAN mitigate climate change.

"save the planet..." Hmmm....
@antfactor
@antfactor Жыл бұрын
@@robertpayne4033 Perhaps we cannot "save the planet" (per se) for human existence (as countless other lifeforms will outlive us, still)... but if we can help make enough people present, and accountable to our current trajectory, perhaps we can help delay that reality a bit longer. Unlikely, perhaps, but a noble and worthwhile goal. By most measures of science, we are clearly in the midst of the Earth's 6th global extinction.

@@antfactor - ah. Another who believes whatever that screen in the corner of every living room pumps out. What "trajectory" is that, then? And, what "6th global extinction"? Historical records show that the average rate for species to become extinct is between 200 and 2,000 species per year; presently, the rate is around 20.

Humanity has an opportunity here to realize our place in nature and stop fighting all other life here and treating it like "resources". The rest of life around us seems to know how to coexist, we "intelligent" humans are the only ones screwing it up. All we have to do is stop.

"Who am I talking to" is a question I've been thinking about a lot lately with regard to my own writing. What does it mean to commit words to paper in a time without posterity? I appreciate Laurie's grappling with that question here, even if an answer isn't readily available, perhaps especially because an answer isn't readily available. This isn't an answer, but I think the question has refocused my attention on how my work might practice kindness toward the people around me in the present. Laurie's work has always done that exceptionally well. It isn't always nice, but it's always deeply kind

LA fan here! I just adore her lovely, creative and tender spirit! Not that I understand or agree with her but just feel a lot of positive energy. There was another great mind of the 20th century who suggested that, as it is obvious that we have always, through time, been brutal and destructive to ourselves, others and nature; and that to understand and face this problem of mankind we must first face ourselves, for the story of mankind therein lies. I need to learn how to read that book of myself, deeply and comprehensively. I don’t know if this will work either but at least feel it is the one thing anyone is capable of and unless I deeply change, everything continues as has always been but on larger and larger scales.

Thank you Laurie so much for these words! I hope that more and more human beings will realise what the point truely is and what's bringing us forward and what's stopping them to see clearly. I know, that my words leave space for interpretation - and that's my intention - to make you think... With love, F

Laurie's advice remiinds me of Franklin D. Roosevelt's advice: “When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on.” It may not sound as great as we might want it a piece of advice to sound & it's very possible if not probable that it could be next to useless but under the circumstances we happen to find ourselves in & the magnitude of the problem we've created for ourselves as Homosapien (Latin for "Wise man" _I wish!_ ) I guess it just _might_ be better than no advice at all... perhaps.

It's a really good point that I've been thinking about a lot... all our stories now are comedies (in the classic sense), we no longer tell tragedies. All our stories have happy endings, we're living in the delusion (we're the only animals capable of self-delusion) that somehow everything happening now will somehow magically work out. It won't.

Laurie, listen to people who had NDEs, at least the first phase of being dead was fantastic for some of them. Out of body experience, feeling unconditional love, peace , life review concerning the moral aspect of life, seeing light. If there is any continuation to this no one knows, but what would be the reason for a dying brain to do a moral evaluation of life, to see dead relatives? The dying brain would not care. If you really would like to find out what it is like before dying you can use Ibogaine, it sometimes causes states identical with those of NDe.

Our personal extinction will happen for each of us before the collective extinction will, but both are inevitable, if our observation of what has come before are any guide, and really, they are they only guide we have. It's important to how you live your life that you accept your own mortality, not in order to prepare for the moment of death itself. It's unlikely you'll meet that with your eyes open and wits about you. People don't generally die intact and being able to reflect upon what is happening. And like every other species, we will go extinct. So, as she says here, slowing down our arrival to that point makes sense.

what's the opposite of exodus>? ARRIVAL (as in us you and me as the the new human standing up and breaking down every limitation we ever agreed to impose upon our beautiful species called humanity for simple sakes)... We are the light that is unstoppable and we are the extinction of our old ways of perceiving (as Laurie Anderson so eloquently said we can use our imaginations and speak differently about how we write our own endings) It was never the endings that scared me as much as the continuation of status quo living like most do now for very long is intolerable to my senses so colors away and shape the divine play madness this way its all okay as long as we know when to say it's OUR PLAY (dang it) we write it - script it and star in it.

Speaking about the Schumann resonance field, on one level what we are dealing amid here is a direct current electromagnet chemical, chrysalis, substrate-sponge; that is continually broadcasting and receiving through its temples of thought, inter-playing as an antenna array from the inside out; utilizing the torodial energy pulses that resonate of each pro-cell interacting along and among an individual perspective and a under-laying unified retrospective, and being that the main whole on the construct is currently utilizing the alternating electric field, as an extended nervous system; which periodically reverses direction and can be an un-grounded source of transmission in continual flux and resistance; being that in contrast to the natural constant direct current; which flows only in one direction? As we are all connected in a quantum phase field, radiating psychic impressions in a compression toroidal vortex of unseen plasmatic light filaments, that we are passing through continually, which we can only seem to relate to as black and white holes collapsing upon themselves around us, while continually interchanging on a vibrational Cosmic level of all possible fields of perception forward and backward through space and time and generating all of our realities of the us simultaneously, as if it were just a painting on our illusional mind's eye of our perceptional senses, in a spectrum of a hued relayed tesseract interplay of interactions that juxtapose against each other, while seeking all knowledge of every possible connection of all parallel dimensions simultaneously for the seeking of continuous wisdom, truth, and also it seems love, while generating and pulsating in the tendrils of the weave of what seems to be all infinities and eternities that are being perceived by all thought in matter of existence at once, as upon a mirror looking back into itself through all our eyes and every feeling that we have. What is your name?” And he said, 'Jacob.' Then he said, 'Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed.' Then Jacob asked him, 'Please tell me your name.' But he said, 'Why is it that you ask my name?' And there he blessed him. So Jacob called the name of the place pineal, saying, 'For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life has been delivered.' The sun rose upon him as he passed pineal. Jacob be nimble, Jacob be quick, And Jacob jump over the candle stick. When the promise which is made to us, that we 'see face to face,' shall come. 'Now we see through a glass darkly,' and 'in part;' but when both people, now purified, now raised again, now crowned, now changed into an immortal form, and into everlasting incorruption, shall see God face to face, and Jacob shall be no more, but there shall be Israel only; then shall the Lord see him in the person of this holy Nathanael, and shall say, 'Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile. ♡ alba tegeder cella deigja ♡ fjöl ♡ hlafweard doͤr redeget abla ♡ ♡ α ♡ φ ♡ χ ♡ ψ ♡ ρ ♡ π ♡ ω ♡ ♡ metamorphosis osmosis torus ♡ kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y2fKZI2Zos99bc0 kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJPGfIJvZ7R6hKs symbios @ www.maths.surrey.ac.uk/hosted-sites/R.Knott/Fibonacci/phi3DGeom.html www.maths.surrey.ac.uk/hosted-sites/R.Knott/Fibonacci/fibrab.html ♡ gust call mE3 Yishma ♡ el ♡ kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6S4noOMeK91fs0
