The nordic countries are like a big family. Iceland is a cousin we keep forgetting about. Denmark, Norway and Sweden are basically the same, but different. Finland is that weird kid that does their own thing. But it's all just love now that we've all grown up. As kids we fought like crazy. That's basically the short history of The Nordics. I just wonder how they would have placed me since I'm both Swedish and Finnish?

I swear, every time I see one of these videos, I'm floored by how good the Korean's English is. I guess I assumed they don't hear as much English in their media like we do in Europe, so they wouldn't get as much exposure. Really impressive!

@@gregorygant4242Yeah, but it’s so much harder for people speaking non Germanic and non Latin based languages to learn English. Especially Koreans which speak a completely different language family and use a different script. Scandinavian people (alongside the Dutch) probably have the easiest time learning English because the languages are extremely similar and there is also much more media exposure to English from the age of like 2-3 years old. Therefore it’s just as hard for Nordic people to learn Korean, as it is for Koreans to learn English.

@Fluxwux
@Fluxwux 5 ай бұрын
@@ahkkariq7406 Finnish people are helped a lot by mandated Swedish lessons from a very young age, proximity to UK/EU and huge exposure to other “western/anglosphere” culture (essentially since the day they are born via movies, TV, video games, commercials that are mostly subtitled and not dubbed, but also the western internet in English or Swedish etc) as they are part of the western world and Swedish is an official second language. They also use the the Latin alphabet and there is more English/Swedish loan words in Finnish which all are things helping to get in to the Germanic language structure and English in particular. It’s without a doubt harder for Finns to learn English however compared to the Nordics and most German speaking countries however - which shows in statistics where English proficiency is several percent lower in Finland compared to the Nordics - and usually Finnish people have a much thicker accent when speaking English jokingly referred to “Rally Finnish”.

If they had Denmark represented then the question about war would've taken a whole another route. Sweden and Denmark hold a record, the most wars between two countries, it is something like 30... The wars were mostly about southern Sweden and Norway. Finland was part of Sweden, so there has never been a war between them. Finland has not been in a war with anyone but Russia (edit: once against Germany), and that has happened many, many times...

it's entertaining to watch but also makes me personally a little bit sad that there is not a bit of this awe left for immigrant people who represent two or more countries equally perfectly. because of the fairytale appearance the korean teens are starstruck but imagine a korean girl sitting there, singing the swedish (?) anthem and later talking to the teens in korean. they probably wouldn't be in awe but instead i can imagine them making fun of her "weird" accent, "weird" style or being surprised that she kind of looks korean but not really like a "real" korean, forgetting the fact that this person is perfectly bilingual and has so many more qualities to offer. with my background it's bittersweet to watch (but i'm working on it). thanks anyway for this video, it's cute :)

Those all three have a history going far back. Finland was a part of Sweden for a long time, and for centuries Norway went back and forth between Denmark and Sweden.
@chriswambraw
@chriswambraw 11 күн бұрын
Yes, well. The history goes back even further than those times. Keep in mind that Iceland, Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Orkney Islands, even Shetland was Norwegian before the plague that in some parts wiped out almost 90 % of Norway's population. Of course it was easy for Danish and Swedish kings - not at all as bruised by the consequences of international sea trade, to just "take over" a neighbour with a broken back. Oh well, nevertheless, point is that even before the modern borders of Norwegian, Swedish and Danish, before the more modern empires of Sweden and Denmark, when there were rather "factions" and "regions", the Nordic countries more or less always had history linked to one another.

To my ears Finnish-Swedish is a little arcane in comparison to regular Swedish, kind of like a time capsule from when Sweden and Finland were a single country a long time ago. @@minnaorv That doesn't change the fact that legally Swedish is one of Finlands official languages and there are regions in Finland where Swedish speakers are the majority of the population. And no, they're not Swedish. These regions are made of people born and raised in Finland, to parents who where born and raised in Finland, who speak Swedish as their first language. And yes, i am completely aware that Finnish is a Finno-uralic language, unlike the Scandinavians who speak Germanic languages.

@@minnaorvNo, most Swedish speakers that live in Finland are Finns. There are several reasons for this - for a long time all higher education in Finland was in Swedish. Totally Finnish people like a branch of my ancestors went to university and took Swedish sounding names, starting Swedish speaking families. Likewise there were mixed marriages for centuries. Even the originally Swedish speaking families may not have had any family members living in Sweden for centuries. Their ancestors may have been ethnic Swedes 500 - 1000 years ago - or German or Scottish as well.

One of my exes looked half Japanese and Finnish, and of course wasn't but had some Sami in there, and Sami people can look as "white" as German or as asian as Siberian. Sami people live in the north Lapland, they are the indigenous people in Finland.
