The Fender ‘68 1x12 is a great super fat sounding amp, stock. The ‘65 a little more even sounding very versatile. I have both and run them stereo…😮 delish. I also have the ‘68 twin. Total beast but so beautiful sounding. Great video guys! Thanks! 🤘

Have both, too. They're nice.

Surprinsily enough, the 68 sounded the best to me in all examples. I have the 65 Reissue btw. Damn, might have to get the Silver face now.

Finally someone does a great comparison of these classics! I have the 64 Deluxe reissue and "yes" I love it! I still want to pickup that silverface 68, however, for it's versatility in those 2 different tone stacks. Thx for this!❤

I am blessed to own a '77 Deluxe Reverb what sits in a MojoTone cabinet. ALL the tone and coupling caps have been changed to blackface era, as has the OT. Put a Celestion Black Shadow in it. Changed the rectifier tube as well. Thing is a beast. NORMAL channel def sounds best.

68 deluxe reverb sounds the best, has the mojo.

I have an original Fender Deluxe Reverb that was made in 1964 that has a dirty cloth face but still works good, so I was thinking maybe I could use it as a trade in toward a new one.

just don't, the new ones suck electronically wise, they are noisier, no way, just watch some amp tech videos on them… if oyu have the original, just do its maintenance and keep him alive, that's THE DEAL

You played differently only on the Tone Master, that's not fair

Tome master is simply a ridiculous thing. A digital simulador of only one thing boxed and costing as the real deal. Now, the real deal will cost twice. It is like the robot tunners nobody wanted and gibson insisted. It is only for fools.

The Handwired version is garbage. Ask any amp tech and they’ll all say the same. It’s not like the vintage blackface deluxe reverb. Where did you hear this?
@mariodriessen974010 күн бұрын
Why is it garbage? See, I don’t know anything about electronics and most things that might be important to know when it comes to amp construction. So all I can do is let my ears be the judge and when I do (which I’ve done a number of times) I’m unfortunate enough to find myself in the situation where I absolutely prefer the sound of the hand wired version (this one). My number two would be the ‘65 reissue. Number three is the ‘68 reissue and I don’t like that one at all. And then this digital thing sounds like 💩 to me. And man, I really love a Deluxe Reverb! But again, I want to know why apparently the hand wired version would be, as you called it, ‘garbage’. Because I’m very reluctant in spending a lot of money on amps that can fail on you and instead of the need to replace one simple component or a couple of them, you would have to order a whole new and large circuit board. I know that some of these circuits are built in a not so clever way, where important parts are placed too close to the tubes which could cause components to basically burn through, or potentiometers and/or in- and outputs that are wired directly onto the circuit board, which will break eventually almost by definition. This happened to me a number of times already. The worse example was with a fairly new Vox AC30. My fist good amp was an old hand wired AC30 with a set of beautiful sounding 1088’s. I think I bought this already heavily beaten up amp when I was 17 years old in 1985 (I guess). I never had any big issues with it. I brought it to a repairman twice to see if he could fix some minor problems with a bit of hum. Those were easy fixes and it hardly cost me anything. I tried many amps over the years. Just out of curiosity and to give me a couple more tonal options in certain situations. In around 2000 I decided to buy a second AC30, because my old one was literally covered with Gaffer tape to prevent the amp from buzzing, because the screws to keep the baffles in place were all loose, so especially during recording sessions the mics would pick up this buzzing from the baffles that clattered against the amp’s chassis. I mean, this amp was being used a lot. And for a very good reason. It was stolen from me 10 years ago and it still hurts. 😢 Anyway, I would still use it every now and then when I felt like it. Together with my new AC30 and a Marshall 1960A cab. Those were the days. However, I bought that new AC30, a Chinese made model with terrible sounding Wharfedale speakers, to replace my old AC30 on the road. It wasn’t bad, but compared to my old love it was a bit underwhelming. After only 1,5 years of using the combination of this new AC30 and the 4x12, me and the rest of the band were almost done sound checking for a gig that night and the amp just died on the spot. I was fortunate enough to have two backup amps, although I wasn’t a huge fan of them. It was either a Marshall JCM900 combo, or a Marshall JCM2000 TSL60 Head. I took the head. Our front of house guy was happy with it and I used that amp for years. However, we never discovered what the problem was with the AC30. And again, I’m not an expert at all and the sound guys we worked with, who would usually fix everything, they kept telling me that they hadn’t been able to fix the problem. It felt like money thrown away. That amp got stolen too on the same day, most probably by the same people. And I’ve had problems with other amps as well. And other gear too. But they were always problems with a circuit board that I needed to replace, or throw it away. A lot of these products have a life expectancy of about 7 to 11 years until something goes wrong. By that time the company that made this stuff has already begun to shift away from that particular version of their own product and often there’s no way to replace the complete circuit board, if really necessary, which is sad. These are usually pretty costly repair jobs. This is why I would love to know what’s so bad about the hand wired Deluxe Reverb, (1) because I love the sound, (2) I’ve had quite some bad experiences with repair work on stuff that isn’t hand wired, (3) I’m not keen on buying expensive gear that isn’t good. *BUT*, when repairmen say it’s garbage BECAUSE they hate working on it (most repairmen hate Mesa Boogie because it takes hours to take these things apart only to do something that usually takes minutes in other amps), or people say it’s ‘garbage’ because this version of the amp doesn’t sound like the amp it’s supposed to emulate, then these arguments aren’t really valid for me as a consumer. Because unless the amp is made in such a bad way that you spend more time repairing it than playing it, I will need more to convince me why I shouldn’t buy this amp (hypothetically speaking, I don’t have the money yet anyway 😬). I feel I need to apologise for my use of your language, because English is not my native language and it’s hard enough to construct a normal sentence, but it doesn’t get easier when I need to use words I would never use in a normal conversation and it’s even worse when I talk about a subject that I’m an expert in. So… forgive me when you need to reread some of my sentences to understand what I’m trying to say. Also, I apologise for the long read. 🫣

@ Not constructed well, noisy, cheaply made. Buy a pre 69 silverface, money better spent. Watch these videos, part one and part 2. Lyle is one of the best amp techs out there. He even says stay away from them. Link: title. Meh | Fender '64 Custom Hand-Wired Deluxe Reverb Pt 1

P.S I wasn’t entirely happy until I bought a vintage blackface deluxe reverb, then I sold all the other shit. Can’t even compare them. Your amp tech will love you as well. Don’t waste your money on an amp you’ll want to upgrade in a year. Just go buy the real deal.
