As someone who adores giving gifts as a love language I think it is perfectly fine to like receiving gifts! the love language of giving gifts isn’t always some old dude giving a girl a Maserati, but it can also be writing a love letter for someone, and the joy of finding things they would like for their birthday. It can also be a flower or an acorn that you found on a walk to bring back for them. For me writing cards for people is a big way I express love for them.
@kristenskousen1317 Жыл бұрын
This! I'm a gifts person too -- a trinket or something pretty or interesting gifted to me will always make my day no matter who the benefactor is. And I love collecting little things to give as gifts to people too. But if I were to rank-order my love languages, Acts of Service would be at the bottom. If someone, going out of their way, does something for me for the express purpose of helping me out or improving my life in some practical way, I balk and don't know whether to accept or not. If I do something for others, I don't want a lot of fuss about it. Just take it and leave, thank you. Don't make this awkward. With that said, it's funny how easily a gift can slip into an Acts of Service territory. If the gift is extravagant, or if it's given with the express intent of "I'm giving this to you to improve your life in a specific way," it really changes the meaning. For me, the best gifts are the little, incidental things.

I think gift-giving as a way of showing love works in certain ways depending on context. Only feeling loved when you receive things can be problematic, but i think if the best way you can show someone that you care about them is giving them something you know they will like shows that you pay attention to their interests , support them, and think of them when they're not around, without the need for words. And it's generally a nice gesture especially if it was not required for any other reason than to make someone feel good.
@mokaccino2124 Жыл бұрын
Honestly couldn't agree more on this cause that's the kind of affection I do as weird as it is to say. When I first met my friend, this was EXACTLY how I tried to befriend em. Learning and getting to know their interest and giving them things they love the best I can Long story short we are going strong 5 years and I still do exactly that cause I love seeing them happy. Tapping into the negative spooky drawing vibe tho, it can be seen sort of like an unhealthy obsession kinda thing. Where u know too much about the person to the point that u can predict what they do, where they go and what they say and becomes so invasive that the receiver feels so overwhelmed with the situation.

I know this wasn’t the intended interpretation of “Quality of Time” but I found a few different meanings. 1. This character could represent the fear of time slipping away, perhaps you seeing your loved ones less frequently or maybe the knowledge of you losing them to anything, illness, betrayal, whatever it may be. This would fit in with the black stuff receding to imply losing your grip on said relationship. 2. This one is more in line with what you said but the time you share becoming sour. Being with them becoming suffocating and uncomfortable which would be represented by the black stuff slowly consuming any good memories. Haha, just my thoughts though and as always lovely art! (I don’t comment much but I was too entertained by my thoughts and wanted to express them 😅)
@soutaueshima3412 Жыл бұрын
I know I’m 2months late but personally this drawing, out of the context, would have made me think of (TW) depression. Just as you said about fear of the time sleeping away, there’s a love hate relationship with time, a dependency that brings you down to a certain way of using your time, like doing nothing, staying home (with the outfit) and also the idea of rotting away kinda seems like depression eating you and leaving nothing out of you

as a person with the love language of gift giving, it can be super hard to deal with when people start to think that you're materialistic :( it's less about the price of the gift and more about the thought behind it. for example, one of my most treasured possesions is a box of seashells my cousin collected for me when she went to the beach, all because she remembered that as a child, i would never leave a beach without at least one seashell in hand. another is a handmade card that my best friend in kindergarten gave me for my birthday. and it's not just about receiving gifts either. gift giving is also how i express my love. i take great care and put in a lot of thought whenever i get a gift for someone. the look on my loved ones' faces whenever they receive a gift from me gives me so much joy. so please don't misunderstand something as beautiful and pure as that as gold digger behavior.
@rebellerene Жыл бұрын
one other thing i would like to add tho, is that no relationship is complete without all five love languages. all of them are essential to the health of any relationship, romantic or not. so to say that one is less than the others is counterproductive, because you need all of them.

I love this prompt so much, cause the toxic side of every love language really is something like 'don't look at me, don't look at my face, look at what i do for you!' and that's super creepy in those scenarios where its just the first few dates and someone gives you a lot of expensive gifts or bombs you with a lot of compliments. Also, i think its a little dumb to think you only have one love language. we each need a little of all love languages. You can maybe prefer some a little more than others, but if you neglect those others, thats when a lot more issues in relationships appear.

I'm almost never early, but I wanted to say you really inspired me as a character designer and I wanted to thank you. Notes for people here to study the process: 1- research is very important. You want to know what you're diving into as a concept for nice details. 2-Postive vs negative POV Look for opinions online for a fresh perspective, usually with less bias. 3- Symbolism Mythos, Folklore, Fairytales all in one way or another, you'll stumble upon them, draw relations (pun intended) between the art of storytelling or even actual drawing as a nice nod to those who inspired you that it becomes, in a way yours. Don't overdo it,tho. 4-Boldness Don't be scared to exaggerate. Especially with a cartoony style. Have fun, experiment around, you don't have to scratch ideas out completely, a nice nod to a little thumbnail sketch bight be the little bit of magic you needed. 5-Mood/personal perspective Have fun, ponder over concepts, how do YOU feel/perceive things? The mood? The experiences? YOU are the artist, after all. Put a little bit of YOU into it. 6-Theme More of an art block thing but it really helps give you a basic restriction to work with. Too much creative liberty can ruin a design just as much as the lack of it Hope my study helps😊

@RunaCluster Жыл бұрын
@@JustARandomPerson._. Not really a professional so take this with a grain of salt but I think you can interpret the thought process with a theme/story/unifying element to give like, a starting point this more of an art block thing but it's a nice way to go. You can write stuff down (from Wikipedia for research and maybe, like, reddit or any social media, there's a hashtag for any and everything) and do thumbnails to get any idea in your brain out in a basic visual form and edit/fix exaggerate it till it feels right with those elements in mind with shape language, maybe a little color if you're feeling fancy or hate black and white. Try many art styles, even realistic can work (minus the exaggeration part of course) but that also needs a good grasp on basics (for character design you'll need: anatomy, basic perspective/foreshortening, color theory, stylizing+shape language you can learn a lot more but those are, like the core) so, again, this is study I do NOT claim to be a good artist you can learn from those tips. They are what helped ME so it might not be for everyone AND I might be learning wrong. And I'm not really that good so, yeah. Try taking notes like this and sharing them for tips from others and check these tips to make sure if they're valid.

What's important is learning to communicate your needs with those you love and listening when they try to communicate theirs as well. Personally, I'm garbage at words of affirmation but have learned that people love when I cook for them. It's easier for me to do things for others than to say, "I care about you." I like the idea that the touch and time monsters are like- a similar classification almost. Both monsters that suffocate, whereas like, the words of affirmation and gift giving have a similar vibe aswell, hiding their intentions behind what they offer? Acts of service feels like a different class, but that's just my little head canons
@DaikonGhost143 Жыл бұрын
Somehow with the touch character you really encapsulated the dark side of having touch as your love language. I actually hate being touched unless your a very specific person, and the thing about that is i get clingy and feel annoying and anxious about it. Im not sure how exactly but the character really encapsulated those feelings for me, nice work :]

It's so adorable how her voice goes from very soft and quiet at the start of each segment to more excited and passionate the further it progresses. Personally I feel loved when I spend time with people, but I prefer to show love by giving gifts, I do specifically like to give gifts I have spent hours to make for the specific person, so I think my love language is a mix between those two (it would be cool to see a positive love language monster video, just getting a look at how these people were, or could have been.)

My love language is giving. I love when I give something I've made to someone and I see their smile! And I love when someone gives me something, not because I want that thing necessarily, but because they're showing that they care about me! Especially if it's homemade- if you gave me something *you* made yourself, I would probably keep it forever and smile at it knowing that it was crafted with me in mind. :}

I love your concepts and I do like how you represented them, even if I was a bit surprised by the last one. I admit I find the last one to be easy to turn around to be darker with a kind of smothering, almost suffocating presence. Like a boa that coils around you and won't let you go until you surrender to them. And for names I guess based on feelings only I would go with Mira, Mercucio , Viper, Lysander and Orlane (read ar Orlayne)

@LJ-ox2tt Жыл бұрын
The thing about gifts being a love language that I think most people forget is that whatever your love language is, is the most likely way you will express love. So, a person who has gifts as their love language is not just wanting to receive gifts but give them as well. I think the people who have gifts as their love language personally gift giving a way to show love and how well you know someone and pay attention to them in physical form. From what I can see, most people who I think would have gifts as their love language are as obsessed with gift giving as they are happy at receiving gifts. My grandma for example, spends all year trying to find the perfect presents to get everyone, and in return, when we get her something that shows how well we understand and care for her she cries. It's not so much about receiving the physical thing, but to show that someone understands and loves you through a physical container.
@Views_of_Eight Жыл бұрын
Exactly this. My love language is definitely gift giving and I love making handmade gifts for people as well as receiving them. It's less about the object itself and more about the meaning behind it. I'd rather receive a cheap ring from a small gift shop in their hometown that reminded that person of me than an expensive diamond ring with no meaning behind it, because I can feel the love and thought that comes with it. I'd also rather handmake a gift for someone than just buy one from a store because it feels much more personal.

gift giving isn’t always like a gold digger way. like my friend considers her love language to be gift giving and she gets really excited over just a simple birthday card.
@Kaiclysm Жыл бұрын
To me having gifts as a love language is more about the thought that goes into the gifts rather than the gifts themselves. Like someone remembers your favorite food or gives you something that reminds them of you. Or they even make you something like a little drawing. It’s more about the fact they’re thinking about you when they buy/make the gift or they may remember specifically something that you mentioned just offhandedly and they get it for you. It shows you they’re listening and care enough about you to spend the time or money to give you something :)
