Showing reaction to death is hard to draw because I can’t imagine how I’d feel or look if I saw someone die or found a dead body. I try not to think about stuff like that lmao
@d4rln_snstr5342 жыл бұрын
Drawing a character reacting to a death sounds tricky! Mainly because most of us don't see people dying daily, or we've probably never stumbled upon a dead body (unfortunately some people have) and the way shows/movies portray a character's reaction to a death isn't always accurate, but if I had to imagine a character's facial expression to death.. the eye's pupils would decrease in size, the face would whiten or probably be a sick yellowish color, the lips would be wide shut but shaking (or it could be half open but unable to make any voice) a character might start sweating excessively or shiver, the placement of the hands would be on the mouth or stomach, the character's posture varies, they could be hunched over or standing very still and unable to move, or would immediately run away (they could trip over or be unable to run properly without looking back) Im no expert but I think it all depends on the context of the scene, the character's personality or how many times they've seen a dead body, and who's the dead body..
@d4rln_snstr5342 жыл бұрын
I forgot to mention the eyes and eyebrows expression, the eyes could either be wide open in horror or half closed and holding back tears, while the eyebrows get effected according to the eyes, they could rise up in shock, frown, or be very confused because the character doesn't know how to react, like I said before it all varies

Edit: Im sorry if its taking a bit for my future comic to be released but ever since you guys showed your interest and support in the story I want to tell, it just motivates me to move forward with the story's development :D Edit from 1 year later: Its been out for a while now and I completly forgot to edit this in the comment itself - Its on Tapas called Undead Eyes. A story about two kids that try to survive their now distorted hometown. It revolves around the two characters' companionship and their trauma/fears. Yknow what I find interesting is that I actually think that with the “beautiful girl” drawing at 6:11, the girl on the right, who is showing more emotion, is actually prettier than the other one because she feels real. She feels human, whereas the other one is so picturesque and perfect that she feels fake, and I think that’s why it’s so important to show emotions in drawings because you may think that well, the emotion will take away from their beauty but in reality it actually adds to their beauty because more people relate to that. And that’s what I think people find beautiful, is flaws and mistakes and just people being human. Thanks for coming to my tedtalk

I think you should make a character sheet so you have a reference on what they look like and dont drive away from it, and make sure to give them outstanding traits different from the other characters, things like the shape of their eyes and shape of their face or add things like freckles or piercings to make them more distinguishable.

For me, I’ve found that the key to facial expressions is the way you draw the eyebrows. Try to push the limits of the way the brow line meets other parts of the face. For surprise, I try to make the inner tips of the eyebrows nearly meet the hairline, while the opposite ends are much closer to the eyes. For anger, it should be almost the opposite.
