@@fleetfeather3963 Look at that weird ass posture and vacant expression. The line art is shit to begin with, she has no right to be teaching these kids anything. Also, from that angle the top of the hat shouldn't be illuminated. Edot,; oh wow after 5 hours she finally got to that part. After shading it like it was lit first. Whatever people, she's not a competent teacher and you would be better of watching people like Protko or Alphonso Dunn.

NessieStatic You can say what you like but you should probably check your facts first because in the do part of the drawing, the top part of the hat isn’t illuminated and I think the vacant expression is intentional because she’s looking at a phone and she’s supposed to be hypnotized by it.

Honestly this helped so much! Whenever I draw pictures I just use colours that I like, they don't necessarily looks good together And I'm not good at shading, like, at all One thing I think you could've mentioned is that you shouldn't just shade with darker colours, you can use colours like blue or purple Overall, I love this video! It helped so much! ^_^

I think everyone's opinion should be taken with a grain of salt, teacher's as well as youtuber's and every method in art has it's place! lavender's method is good for comics in this case but obnoxious color palettes can work for psychedelic art or smth like jojo. as long as it's a choice and not a mistake it can be right. maybe just try to explain to your teacher what you're trying to convey with your method ... and if they're not listening they can still be just a bad teacher

@parasiticalibis2369
@parasiticalibis2369 5 жыл бұрын
Eyes are round, and ya need to think about the shape and material of furniture. For eyes, if the light source is coming from below, the shading should effect some of the close to middle edges and the rest of the eye above that. I probably explained this terribly, so you may want to find a how-to somewhere instead.

I've started work on a comic of my own actually (I just started development in October, so it's not gonna be online for a while) and I'm messing around with color palettes for my characters currently. So you went for a lot of pastel, because that's what your character's color pallet will stand out in front of the most. But in my comic, I'm pretty sure I'll have a lot of dreamy-looking pastel backgrounds. What colors would be better to use for my characters? Would they look very out of place with more vibrant colors? I can't really test it easily because my laptop broke last week. So I was hoping you (or anyone else reading this comment) might be able to give me some advice.
@fluffyphoenix8082
@fluffyphoenix8082 5 жыл бұрын
I'm no expert, but I think if you have lots of pastel backgrounds, then yeah, using more saturated colors for the characters would work well. You could even use darker colors for some characters if you want; since if you're going to be using light pastels for backgrounds, then darker colors would stick out well too (depending on if you think dark colors would fit the character). Of course you don't wanna oversaturate things to the point they clash and look ugly - unless that's the whole point of your character (like they wear clashing colors or something lol). Even then, you don't wanna hurt your readers' eyes, but I'm sure you already know that. :P

While I really enjoy these videos, sometimes I wish you’d put a little more effort into the “don’t” drawing. I understand that you’re trying to show the difference but sometimes it doesn’t feel like the same amount of effort has gone in. While, yes, you should take care to fill in all the gaps if you use the paint bucket tool, I don’t think that’s overly relevant to what’s currently being shown! The shading you did also appears to have taken way less effort, with you using what looked to be a soft looking brush to put it down. It would have been nice to see you apply your usual technique, just with the wrong colour palette and in the wrong places - I feel it would make seeing the differences a lot better.

i’m sorry you’ve gotten hate in the past. you are so sweet! and just genuinely want to help! i’ve learned quite a bit from your vids and always appreciate your videos. this was one of the most helpful ones for me! a lot of other ppls vids go over complete basic color theory (like vocab) and it can be harder to apply/take it further but this was very helpful. thank you for taking time to make stuff like this to help people :)

Can this work to your benefit though? Like, if you want a scene to feel busy and confusing for the characters, can you pull the readers into that with the 1st comic colouring method?
@uwuowo2649
@uwuowo2649 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah! That's the thing with these rules - you can break them if you want. You just need to know the effect it'll have. If you want a feeling of confusion for the reader that makes it harder to understand what's going on, this would work really well. Especially if your comic mostly had toned down backgrounds too.

this video was super helpful! i drew something very similar to your example the other day, where a character was looking at her phone. the light was much more like the blue-white thumbprint on the don’t side, so if i redraw it, i’ll think about where the light actually reaches. also, i’m planning a comic, so this will be helpful for that, too :) thanks lavendertowne!

This is just a random tip that I think is pretty helpful when trying to come up with color palettes espicially for characters! I suggest looking up images of nature and scenery like if I wanted a character to incorporate colors of red and green then I would look up a refrence to objects that are red and green by nature like a rose or an apple. This helps prevent ur characters from looking to clashy!! Lovely video by the way! 💕

so, the way to keep the bucket tool from heckin up should you use a softer lineart colour instead of black?
@maskingdragons6020
@maskingdragons6020 5 жыл бұрын
I don't really think so. In my experience changing the lineart color doesn't keep the bucket tool from missing spots, best thing to do is go over the edges of your line art just in case for any missed spots after the bucket tool. (Using a dark color as the background can really help in pointing those out if it's behind a brighter color.) Hope this helps.

I agree. It definetely does have problems as it was intended to be, but the left side didn't really adress the issues in the right image. The biggest issue in the right side image is that the yellow on the hat is too saturated. If the hat was in a less saturated but still bright color, it would have looked perfectly fine (in my opinion at least). The left image however has an almost dark orange colour, which doesn't look really pleasing. But I am still learning to draw and wouldn't call myself very good, because I still have a long way to go in mastering the basics, so there is a good chance I might be wrong.

@@SalmonSalmonfish I personally am rather neutral towards her style. It has it's positive and negative aspects and I respect that. Her content is entertaining, but some of the "Do This, Not That"s are in my opinion a bit problematic. Mostly I can talk about the one about anatomy. Sure, the advice she gives works in her style, but quite some things she drew on the do side weren't correct. She even kind of replaced the don't section for the male body with a common(?) mistake in drawing order. So, I mostly don't agree with this video series, but the rest of her content is fine.
