Totally agree! We were all fully expecting that thing to collapse but it remained resilient.

That structure over the gas pumps were obviously not built BY the cheapest bidder! So glad you stayed safe!

Why is ‘by’ in caps…I can’t make sense of it….’pumps, obviously, cheapest’ all would have made sense….but not ‘by’….

Glad you're ok. That was intense, the canopy over those gas pumps was holding on pretty good! I always find the moment the power goes out super creepy, don't know why. Thanks for sharing, and glad you got to go chasing!
@ScottMcPartlandNYC Жыл бұрын
Same here! Right as the power went out is when the roof peeled off the community center across the street. We're still not quite sure if that happened because as the roof peeled off it caught some of those power lines in the process. Or perhaps it was just a coincidence. Either way definitely an intense experience.

Impressive. Everyone was waiting for that roof to take off. But it did withstand.

Thanks Lori! It was nice to get back out to the alley and do some chasing. Looking forward to seeing you again soon, passing on our Florida trip this year as we've been there three times in the last year lol, but will be back again next year for sure!

Curious: in these tornado areas, are the gas pumps shut off when a tornado hits?
@ScottMcPartlandNYC Жыл бұрын
In many cases the power fails as a tornado approaches, as was the case here as well, and at that point the pumps usually shut off as well unless there was a backup system in place.

Did you film this OUTSIDE of your chase vehicle?? 😳😳
@ScottMcPartlandNYC Жыл бұрын
We did, and it isn't something we normally do, our original plan was the document the hail in town, but a couplet formed very close to us and at that point we all felt it was safe to stay put as it was just to the north of us, and not heading directly at us, and we kept our backs against a very solid building that wasn't downwind of anything. Again, not the safest thing, but we made the decision on the fly based off the information we had at the time. But there were several confirmed reports from knowledgeable spotters of a tornado just 1/4 mile north of where we were which would have been to the left of where I was filming. Intense RFD winds certainly played a role in terms of damage in the town as well.
@ScottMcPartlandNYC Жыл бұрын
When it comes to chasing any storm, there is never a guarantee of safety obviously, just levels of acceptable risk that you take and that is different for each individual chaser.
@dh190852 Жыл бұрын
