This video is crucial for police officers, security, or CCW civilians who are carrying a gun on their holster. If an attacker reaches for your gun, Steven Chin explains a tactical defense for how to stop them from drawing the pistol, trap the arm, and take them down to subdue your attacker with a restraint.

The question that I have is... will that work when the aggressor is utilizing his right hand versus just staying limp like the video. Typically punches, head control or a body hug is occurring along with the aggressor driving you back. Put it in action with heavy contact with pads and see if it works then. Don’t try it in real life until you do.

A good point to make in this case is, like everything else, needs to be practiced. If you find yourself in this situation you don't want to be trying to remember what you need to do. It has to happen fast.

Awesome man, big fan ever since I found you man but just was curious if you could upload more stuff like this as in pressure points? I know its not stuff where like you hit a spot and they go down bc its never that easy in a street fight but stuff like the hand pressure point? I know the kidneys ears and eyes are weak just I was looking for something that would disable them from walking/moving or something?

What do you do if the other guy is actually fighting you and not just letting you take him down? And this isnt common for ccw holders since cc actually stands for concealed carry, witch means they wouldnt see it. Also good/smart ccw holders dont get into confrontations so this TIP should be for law enforcement only.

Hey Shane, lovin the videos, been a huge fan for a long time! Question. How would I kick the habit of bending over too low when fighting? For example I always throw a combo but I have this rythm that naturally makes me bend low or move my head as if Im slipping a punch. I realize having a rythm can put me at a disadvantage, ESPECIALLY when doing mma because it leaves me open for kicks, knees, etc. How would I avoid this constant motion?

So I've been training BJJ for 2-3 months now and I have a question that I feel my trainer/teacher didn't fill in with his answer. he says that we should only fight if someone attacks first, but if someone pulls a knife on me or something like that do you guys think it's okay to engage a fight in self-defence because you're feeling threatened? I feel like just if I feel threatened I should be able to fight someone in Self-defence, without it being wrong.

As a BJJ guy for many years (2010)...who carries concealed and practices self defense as well as reads the law as a hobby on the topic? I have a few things that you should know. 1) BJJ against a knife is a VERY bad idea. VERY BAD. Especially BJJ that involves essentially no Judo. It isn't a self defense art. Not really. Not unless it is a backup to something ELSE that doesn't emphasize dealing with weapons and striking and so on. 2) As far as the law goes? In the United States it is state by state BUT...if someone pulls a knife on you that is considered a threat of Lethal Force and you are within your rights to not only engage them, but kill them. You could provide me your state and I could better assist you with that information. In the State of Florida you are clear to shoot and kill an attacker with a knife. You also do not have a duty to retreat. 3) Back to the knife: it requires closing the distance and if that is your concern you need to take an art that emphasizes fighting against the knife. Something that recognizes that most knife attacks start by grabbing ahold of you and pulling you and shanking you with the other arm. Knives are scary.

This thumb squeeze technique sounds dumb. How will it cause the hand to "go to jelly" ? Mechanically it won't open the hand so is it supposed to rely on pain to do the job cause anyone fighting for a gun won't care how hard their hands or nipples are being pressed, they aren't going to let go.

@1:54, in a situation like this, if someone forcibly takes your gun, you're not responsible if they shoot it and injure/kill someone else.
@stuckie401
@stuckie401 8 жыл бұрын
Legally, in most states, you would be. The safe use and holstering of your weapon is your responsibility.
@philosopher299792458
@philosopher299792458 8 жыл бұрын
+Tucker Rhodes That has nothing to do with "safe use and holstering" if someone attacks someone else and takes their gun. To claim that the one attacked is legally liable for the attacker's misuse of their firearm demonstrates a massive misunderstanding of the concept of personal responsibility. Anyone who advocates for such legal liability is no better than the idiots who claim gun manufacturers should be held liable for the criminal misuse of their products. Ideas like these are a symptom of the ridiculousness of our current legal system, and the person's statement I referenced is about trying to cover one's ass as best as possible from the misuse of that system by overzealous attorneys who only care about making money.
@stuckie401
@stuckie401 8 жыл бұрын
philosopher299792458 Then why are parents of children who accidentally shoots themselves or another always viewed as being responsible? Because it was their duty to keep that weapon safe and away from people who are not supposed to use it. The same thing applies to a criminal making a play for it. What you are thinking about is liability and not responsibility. The proper use of a firearm is your responsibility, but the criminal is liable for collateral damage or harm. It's just legal wordplay using words that would normally have the same meaning in normal conversation. The law is meticulous like that.
@philosopher299792458
@philosopher299792458 8 жыл бұрын
+Tucker Rhodes The child situation you referenced is obviously different from being attacked and having your weapon taken against your will. You're not liable or responsible for the misuse of your weapon in that case.
@stuckie401
@stuckie401 8 жыл бұрын
philosopher299792458 I wasn't clear in my last post on responsibility and liability. My fault. What I was trying to say the legal gun carrier is responsible for the safe use and carry of the weapon. That is all that they are responsible for. If a bystander is shot or property is damaged the legal gun owner is not responsible for that, but instead, the criminal is. Because someone was harmed or property was damaged, the criminal is liable. The legal gun owner will not have criminal charges brought up on them. What the instructor was implying with responsibility of the firearm is that, worst case scenario, you'll have your CCW suspended if you're a civilian, or you'd have to go through some sort of remedial training if you're in a security type of profession. There would be some sort of legal consequence, but not a criminal one.

Terrible tactics here. This is a lethal force situation. Once you get control of the arm grabbing the gun you should be attacking him. Knees to the groin, left hand fingers in the eyes, or left hand / forearm strikes to the head / neck (or maybe accessing a knife with your left hand). What about his left hand? You are doing nothing from preventing that from hitting you. The take down is not going to work in a disparity of force situation.
