@@ossies.2002 (SPOILER ALERTS) Darkness Season 18, Episode 2. Based on the NY Blackout. Kidnappers abducted the wife and daughter of a COO of the a big hedge fund during the blackout. They killed the wife, but Green and Lupo managed to save the daughter and arrest one of the three kidnappers (Kidnapper No. 1 died in the above scene), as Cutter (the ADA) told them to search a shop without a warrant (the judge wouldn't sign off because the senile store proprietor, father of the dead kidnapper, didn't remember his address). Flash forward to the trial, and Cutter tries to save the case (which would have fallen apart because of the warrantless search) by finding out who masterminded the kidnapping and why. Cutter discovers that the COO was colluding with an energy company to shut down power stations and cause blackouts so that cities would buy power from a company he had an interest in for like 300% of the cost, and that the kidnapping mastermind worked at his company and discovered the plot in one of his emails. The COO refused to testify in the case because it meant admitting to a crime and being arrested. Cutter, seemingly out of options, invites the COO's daughter to the court hearing where he plans to concede a motion to dismiss and tells the daughter that it's partly because her father won't testify. Heartbroken, the daughter tells her dad that if he doesn't testify, she will end their relationship. The COO relents and testifies and the episode ends.

@@eldridgedavis Combination of her not being a particularly compelling character and the acting wasn’t great, either. Cassady was brought in as a very young an inexperienced detective that Van Buren didn’t want. She was promoted off the publicity of her role in a multiple shooting and assigned to Van Buren’s division, while the lieu wanted someone more seasoned to replace Joe Fontana. She never really gelled and to me, at least, wasn’t especially convincing as a cop. I think that was part of the point of the character; that she wasn’t very experienced and had a tough time adjusting but the way she played the role was less than compelling.

@@intldawn I watch L&O and ER religiously. It's so interesting to see the dichotomy between the two shows as it pertains to character exits. Because there are so few characters, L&O Typically is able to write their characters a decent exit. ER often times loses track of key supporting roles and they disappear without an explanation (In the ER universe, we call them "Bobbed" after the Polish surgeon-turned-clerk who disappeared without an explanation). Cassady was the literally the only principal character from the L&O-verse who disappears without any explanation. That says something about how lowly she was regarded.
