A lawn care company cut my price by $41. I gave it some thought and came up with five lessons I can learn from this experience. I was not upset. Actually, it made me feel better about my lawn care pricing strategy. Don't let big companies intimidate you with their pricing if it is high or low. It is important to understand your pricing and know not to compromise just to get another lawn care customer. If a customer decides to switch over price, then it may not have been the right customer for your business.

I’m just a home owner but I manage a sales staff and an inventory of 13 million so time is very important because I have very little of it to spare. I have in the past hired a independent small company to cutt my 10k foot lawn and paid over $100, well over. And then hired another company to take care of weed control and fertilizer. There was another $80-$160 depending on what applications are needed. I saw the advantage of hiring these two companies to save me time and me being a homeowner and pricing those products I knew it was a good deal. I have in the last year and a half decided to take care of it myself along with a little help from my 18-year-old to help me get those midweek cuts. So now I do spend the time to do my own weed control and fertilization which I like and I see the results in my lawn. I enjoy taking care of my lawn but I wouldn’t expect to have those two companys even walk on to my lawn for anything less than $100. No offense to the customer but maybe it’s time for him to downsize to a smaller yard. I mean for $59, he could not even do that himself with him purchasing the same products and not to mention equipment, and time. It’s not worth it , I do not blame you. Great video great content, as always.

I spent many years and didn't care about my lawn. The weeds slowly took over, and I wanted to hire a company for one year to get it under control. I hired TruGreen and paid in full for 12 months. This was the most pathetic service. They promised all kinds of things, were here and gone in five minutes, and did nothing for my yard. I would watch them provide their "service" on my security cameras every month. I had more weeds six months after hiring them than I did initially. Long story short, I fired them, got half of my money back, and started watching channels like this. A year later, my yard holds its own against the other top lawns on the block. Thank you for making these videos so guys like me!

You get what you pay for. I've used a "service", where when the fertilizer prices took off, they would water-down the application, with poor results, and they went quickly out of business as their customers were quitting as a result. Second, I used "the big guy", and the quality of their service deteriorated, also. I'm back to doing my own, and the results have improved dramatically. In the end, you MUST give quality service, and customers will pay fair prices.

I was taught as a youth "start out like you can hold out". If you cut your price to get a customer or lowball a competitor, the lasting impression you just gave that customer is that he can squeeze you and you will fold. Not the business model for me.

I believe larger mowing companies intentionally lose money on pricing. They drive out the competition knowing companies that aren’t giants yet will struggle without the cash reserves to operate business in the red. Thank you for sharing the knowledge you did today 🙏🏽

Here's what happens. Most large companies, are mostly trained for fescue. When it comes to Bermuda, their way doesn't work well. I've been there with several of these company and I have fire all of them. I started doing it myself and my yard is 100 percent better. I only use my lawn mowers. No cross contamination. Also, I own a rear engine 33 HI Vac Snapper, with a bagger, which in my opinion is better than my Tru cut reel mower. It will cut to an inch. ALSO, YOU HAVE DONE THE INITIAL WORK, WHICH WILL MAKE THEM LOOK LIKE A SHINNING STAR. AFTER A YEAR. THE YARD WILL GO DOWN HILL. I love your videos, I've learned much from you, and another on my own. Keep up the good work..

You are the correct one here. A small business should never compete on price with somebody like that. There will always be somebody that can undercut you at least in the short term. You should always compete by being a better company. Not a cheaper company. And, you will find that people who leave you for a cheaper price will sometimes, not always, come back to you in order to get a better job done. I believe you handled that 100% well.

The low ball company hasn’t figured in the costs, labor, materials and overhead correctly. The depreciation on the truck ~$1/mile, labor ~$15/hour, materials ~$25 and overhead ~20/hour. They are loosing money pricing jobs that way. Eventually the cash flow runs out, suppliers will get screwed and be owed millions. And the owners will file bankruptcy, walking away with millions of other peoples money. I’ve seen this business strategy being used by low balling companies in all industries, my whole life.

It's because you're a honorable lawn care professional and you'll actually what the client is paying for the appropriate rate. Unlike "THAT" service (which in the Birmingham and surrounding area so I KNOW EXACTLY) who you're taking about, but they'll apply at a lesser rate than they should and the client will be none the wiser. It's frustrating. I do care for lawns as well and people LOVE my results but want to go for the cheaper price and complain to me about their service and ask questions about what I'm doing to the lawns I maintain. NO SIR!!!!
