Hey Mike, just wanted to say you have no idea how helpful it is to hear the negative side of the business aswell. Im making the transition to employees and it feels like im the only one experiencing lower quality, longer job times, call backs, etc. as I expand. You knocked so many things I needed to hear in this video, making it seem like nothing, and im pumped to take on the challenge 💪

It's funny that you posted this video today. Because yesterday was his last day and today was the new guys first day!!! Lol 🤣 This video is almost exactly what I've experienced over the past few weeks!!!

@@thepressurepack3777 LOL 🤣 You obviously have no long term experience being in the professional landscaping industry. Ive worked at about 8 different landscaping companies. All the way from the owner and me type of "mom and pop" operations, all the way up to multi-million dollar companies that send out half a dozen crews every day. I have been doing professional landscaping for a dozen years. There is honestly only about 20% teenagers. Seriously, only about 1 out of 5 employees are under 20... Were you just assuming that it is mostly teens, or do you have any professional landscaping experience to base that off of?

Tis why I never bag . Sharp mulching blades and it seems that y’all double mow while bagging . I too , will somewhat double mow but it’s to an advantage that helps to have a fine shred of the clippings by doing so . Having the right equipment will also produce faster results. When I first started lawn maintenance, I worked alone and taught myself how to do it only for the season to end for the winter and I didn’t have enough work nor did I have experience to do landscaping jobs , so I went to work for a guy down the street from me . See , I only had a 22 “ push mower & one of everything that I needed . He had a 60”Stand on mower Great Dane , a 48 “ Stand on mower also a Great Dane and a 36” Gravely walk behind . So when he and I went to do yards we could easily knock out about 20 -22 yard per day . Yet , when I first started with him , at the end of that 1 st day , he told me that he’d give me 2 weeks to learn how to use the weed eater. So , I asked him to show me his methods and he did and I learned em in one week . I eventually bought my first 36” Gravely walk behind from him and upon my departure, I picked up a subcontract to mow fuel stations . The company that was mowing em had 3 push mowers with teenagers that didn’t know what they were doing , and after I mowed 7 properties for the guy , he paid me and said thanks but he’d continue with his crew . I contacted the actual owner of my check and he agreed to go and look at the properties that I’d completed and compare em to this guy . He was impressed with my work and he gave me 14 yards . So , yeah what a solo operation has is simplicity till ya hire more then 1 employee and then either have to train em up or here’s the catch , pay them more then the average pay for a great worker . My best employee had 35 years in the business when I started doing the gas stations and he walked up when I was at a store mowing it and talked to me about working for me . At the end of our first day , is when I learned that he had been doing this for 35 years and his professionalism showed for it . I didn’t have to tell him anything to do and he trimmed the bushes faster and better then I could do . He was also from Mexico but he had been injured while inside of a truck that was hit by a reckless driver and he had pins in his knees . Slow they are , pay em less . Fast and great pay em more and above the average pay scale .

I have an idea. What if you chose one of the crewmembers to go around and pick up the other guys? You can give each one of the crewmembers a chance to be that guy that goes and picks everybody up. If they can pick up everybody within a certain amount of time and let’s say 10 consecutive days then you can give them a bonus.

I would have said the estimator is being cheap and that's why the whole crew isn't making P4P, but when you said they're also not blowing off and missing trimmer spots...seems like 2 issues. I'd tell them focus on quality then privately if all jobs are still ccming in slow, fix the estimates.

Or what if there was a body system to where each guy calls each other in the morning to meet up or to motivate each other to get going? I’m not sure how you would get bonus incentives for that but I feel like that could be something that can be done to. What I mean by buddy system is you break the guys up into pairs. They don’t have to work together but they can just make sure to text each other or message each other in the mornings.

obviously people will talk a good game in a job interview about how they are money hungry but their actions on the job speak volumes. The money hungry people are out there, you just have to run through a few, or a lot, till you hit the right one. when times get hard, the slackers will be in a bad spot. And believe me, times will get hard, again. perpetual cycle, start anywhere you like: good times create soft men soft men create hard times hard times create hard men hard men create good times ^all of recorded history.

Push mowers are demoralizing that kills the efficiency, I only push if I cant get a regular rider back there I would never Push mow if a stander was an option. Also bagging clippings as well. You need to think and get in the mind of a lazy or unmotivated employee. Hard to go to go to work knowing your going to push a mower for 10 hours when you can go work a mindless simple job for 15-18$. Like you said moneys not the factor its the labor. But if that employee is waking up knowing he's can throw in his headphones and ride a mower all day and get paid now that sounds a little more bearable. But Plain and simple you will never have an employee work harder then the business owner.

Lawn care is a hard job specially when you live different states, but also you have bumps down the road and ups also,I use to lawn care and tree care yes its hard to find right people to fit in once you find that team you know what has to done ,yes some have dreams of owning a business that can be fully accomplished you put your energy into to it most two important things is your employees and your customers they come first once you show them you care and together has a team anything is possible, the reason why am not doing it is I had sun stage cancer that change my life around, I love the outdoors work if put your mind ,heart soul in something you love so much has I did ,I had 8 employees we were 7 days weeks and holidays off with pay ,than I always work also in packing plants like orange, grape fruit and I also work in the feild of it tractor, heavy equipment, sparying the trees mowing harvesting it yes if had that chance again I would do it again for myself and my family know what it takes run a lawn care and tree services, I would give u an estimate how much in lawn and tree care I use to make ,5,000 to 10.000 a month, since now am really thinking about it have alot on my plate but I always kp positive and kp my head up high am use to Florida weather that's where am from right am sc trying get things right mind ,knowledge is keyword how you show support to your employees and your customers they are loyal to you yes your videos are greatly influenced and appreciated thank you

I used Stihl with Brightveiw and those machines just can’t last , nor did they have the torque to do what a Shindaiwa T27 could do . Most lawn maintenance companies will buy all of the same brand when most solo companies will only buy the best of the each tool . Redmax blowers , Stihl chainsaws and pole hedgers , Shindaiwa weed eaters . I don’t talk with the sales representatives, I speak with the mechanics about the units and their durability and longevity.
