I’m out in CA and we regularly get 95 all summer, I’ve always been told you will burn your lawn if you water mid day, but I think I’ll take your word on trying to cool the lawn at 3:00 for 5 min

Yo Pete, first off, God bless you brother! Secondly, I live in northern Indiana and we're going through that here in the past week around 90 and 90+ temps. I have Kentucky Blue Grass with irrigation, but still use your watering technique. OMGOSH what I difference in my yard compared to last year. I haven't mowed it during this time, and I added a day of watering from 2 to 3 days, and I've been syringing every day. Man, I have the nicest and greenest grass in my neighborhood! They're asking me the secret, so I just send them your videos. Thanks again for what you do, brother!

I have a 1,200 square foot bentgrass putting green in my backyard and without this cooling process Pete is talking about my turf would die in August every year. I have actually now installed a couple industrial type misting fans for when it gets super hot to help with cooling the turf and giving it some airflow. Its so important i have looked at tents with misters to give the turf a break during the hottest days. Bentgrass cut at .150" doesnt like 95 and humid at all.

Thanks for the advice. I'm in Kansas and the heat has been kicking for the last 2 months. I have been watering every 2 days trying to keep the soil cool and the grass alive. I'll back it down to every 3 days and and extra watering after I get home from work.

We've been dealing with the same heat in WV. Been in the high 90s for several days. We got lucky though and had some really heavy thunderstorms roll through to help cool us off a little. And I'm pretty sure those sprinklers know exactly when you turn your back cause they'll get you everytime!

Great Video Pete, I have been doing this for many years and it always works/ helps. The late afternoon watering also helps rehydrate the turf plants especially if they're needling and you can clearly see what areas need water ASAP

Thanks for another informative video, Pete! I did exactly what you describe in your video a week or so ago..we had temps here from 112-118° The 7 week old BABY lawn seems to have made it through pretty well. I did run all stations for a short cycle 3 times a day instead of just once but, to have TTTF/ KBG make it through heat like that was something of a miracle! Anyway, just wanted to thank you for the videos and info. I appreciate the time you spend in production of the content on KZbin.

I have a few questions I just bought my house and want to reseed in the fall ( with gci seed of course) could I spray the yard in 2-4-d to kill the weeds before reseeding or jut wait until spring and use pre-emergant, and also what rating fertilizer should I use when seeding? Good tip. My lawn has been in stress mode since mid May. Spring decided to cut out early this year. Been super hot and dry here in NE Oklahoma for about 30 days straight. Hey Pete, been watching your videos for the past couple of weeks, great stuff! I had a question that I haven't seen discussed on any of the videos Ive come across on your channel. I have newly laid tall fescue sod (1 week) and I wanted to see what was recommended as far as watering in these beginning stages. Here in Texas its reaching 101-104 daily now. Irrigation is in and the sod is getting 40 minute run early morning (7AM) and two 20 min rounds at 12 noon and 3:45PM. Is this optimal for newly laid sod? Thanks in advance!!!

I fully admit I might not know everything but Gold Courses don't do that. They water about 2 a.m. every night in the summer. I remember that from when I was a kid and I lived in an apartment where my windows faced the golf course at age 24 to 28 and I never saw them turn the system on until about 2 a.m. there as well. What's the difference?

I was taught to cycle sprinklers or hand water for a short time, fairly soon after mowing especially during times of disease, to wash off the guttation water that oozes from the cut leaf blades. I have never heard about this practice from you folks in the south. Are your grasses not as fluid filled as here?

someone said it was bad to water the lawn at noon or afternoon in the blazing heat....when watering for 5-10 mins,,most of it will evaporate or it will boil the grass and soil unless its a heavy soaking....not sure if there is any truth to this or not...just something i heard about...i always try to water my lawn about 6 am in the morning or so.

Old wives tale. Now it's not good if your goal is actually watering the lawn. Too much evaporation. The goal of a 3-10 minute sprinkling is just that. Evaporation removing heat from the ground.
