I personally would not put signs out nor stop to read them. I think it the bottom of barrel of forms of advertising! Every intersection in NY is littered with cigarette butts and signs. Covering the grass below. Are you that hard up for work??? Put your time and money into some other form of attracting customers... without fucking up the environment.

They are very effective around here. We move our signs every 3-5 days until there are all gone. The city or other companies eventually will pick them up and throw them away...

How did those signs work out you? Did you get any calls. My Customer acquisition with HA is over 150 dollars a customer. I thought to myself for 150 I can get 50 signs with stands and probably generate more then 1 customer.

The signs have worked pretty well for us over the years. These specific signs didn't do too well. What worked for us was a very focused sign at the right time. Like - Leaf Removal Only - right before the leaves fall. Got to think, people are driving by, it needs to be right to the point! We had too much going on with these signs. HA is a complete fraud. I can get you much better ROI via a website, SEO, and ads. I work with roughly 50 lawn care companies across the country already. Contact if you want to really grow next year.

Timing tho, when in the season do you put out the signs. During cutting season or before it starts ?

If you are wanting to pick up mowing customers, I would keep the signs simple and really just focus them on the mowing service. I would try to time them to have them out a week before the grass starts growing and the week of in your area. That is when the highest number of people will sign up for mowing service in my experience throughout the year...although, we would pick up mowing clients all season long.

M problem is is that the city likes to take them and competitors. so what should i do? go to a different town or city

I only have a couple of these signs left (out of 30)...they have almost all been thrown away within 8 days of me putting them out and I moved the signs on the 4th day (16 were gone before the 4th day out...). Freaking crazy... But, next time I get signs I am going to take Self Propelled Lawn Services advice and buy a smaller sign and just write one service on it and a phone number. Well, when printed each sign will have 2 signs worth printed on it and when I receive the signs I will cut them in half to make 2 signs out of each. Nothing fancy. Ex. Mowing - 859-620-9893 (This would be 2 lines of text on the sing...) Ex. #2 Lawn Care 859.620.9893. That is it. I would also nail some to poles and stuff like that to avoid the stake cost, but even the stakes can be cut in half... So, next time I will do it that way and should have the cost per sign down to $1.50 or so and I don't care if people throw them away. Also, there will be so many around town I feel like it will generate even more calls.

I'm putting my money into my businesses and I am going to have a million dollars at age 35. I like Dave Ramsay and I have listened to plenty of his podcasts and read several of his books, but I would rather play offense than defense! A much better book to read if you want to make a lot of money is Think and Grow Rich. Or, if you want to build a business that makes you a millionaire way before you are 70, try The E-Myth Revisited. Dave is probably right about his comment...I just see no reason to wait until 70 to make your first $1M!

We can’t just read a book and think that we can “make it”. It’s like reading about winning the lottery. It just doesn’t work.You need to have that inner drive. The passion for your work. And to be honest with you guys. We don’t all have it. Some of you can and will mow lawns until your back goes or can’t pay your overhead, etc.. I hope I am wrong. We all deserve something for all the hard work that we do. Someday I may write my story of success.

That assumes no major economical turmoil in those 40 years. He's much better off investing the money in his own business, because he'll see immediate measurable results. Personally, I don't believe in investing my money in any sort of stock or ROA. For one, these rich folks that have made their money on investing didn't *_earn_* it -- they invested a small principle amount and then milked the system for everything else. Further, the problem with that sort of "career" is that even if your "investment" yields you $1 million, you can't spend any of it; in order to keep making money, you've got to invest a considerable portion of the million. You can't reap any rewards from an investment until decades later. I have too much I want to do with my life that depends on me being relatively youthful. Not doing me any good to finally have the spare cash to take a two week vacation to the Whistler mountain biking park in Canada if I'm too old & decrepit to ride a mountain bike. I can invest in my own business and be in a position to fulfill that dream in no more than 5 years. Compare to investing in your own business, where a $500 investment in signs might yield $20k in profit. You can then turn another $20k with just another $500. The best part is you *_earned_* every red cent.

Yes. They are. They get to use tax-funded police officers to direct traffic out of their establishments when they don't pay a dime in taxes. They also con people out of billions of dollars every year by selling them invisible snake oil. I pay Federal, State, City & county taxes but can't even use a small yard sign to advertise on public roadways? K.
