I love my C1; it's the only ship I own for real money and it does almost everything I could want from a daily driver. My only complaint is the landing pads it gets assigned, but it looks like that'll be solved in 3.24 with the new hangars

Speaking of seating. I was in my friend's Caterpillar just standing on the bridge, when he decided to accelerate. My character slipped and dropped on the stairs, probably breaking his neck because it was instant respawn screen. 🎉

Thought I already fed the algorithm with a comment but here is another! I'm a big fan of the Spirit series for the aesthetics and sleekness but I also like the down-and-dirty Drake look. If I had to choose between the Cutlass Black and Spirit C1, I'd take both! 😃

I choose the C1 Spirit as it has VTOL engines separate from the main thrusters. Can do some great combat maneuvers and still keep the forward speed going. Plus the engines are more protected than the Cutlass are. C1 is a great ship for upcoming cargo 3.24 as you can call up two 32 scu, sit in the cockpit that can be locked and move the two boxes into the ship without worry of being jumped in the seat. Could even use the box to "crush" any would be thief's too :) Right now she is my ROC hauler and does a great job at it ! Add the Cyclone for bunker running and maybe future box deliveries into the DCs . Good all around ships to start out in

Nice balanced comparison. I had upgraded my Cutty to a C1 but it didn't take long to buy a Cutty back again. It's just objectively better for ground missions and ROC mining. And if you have bigger ships then C1 looses it's raison d'etre. I like the sleekness and style but it's interior is just a little too clinical to be home. The Cutty still earns it hangar place even with access to the next level such as Corsair's and Connie's. The C1 is a stepping stone to these. But if they made it fly as fast as it looks then it would make a nice nice blockade runner/smuggler.

I used to say Cutty B, but I have a C1 on load until the Zeus CL arrives. I'm really growing fond of it. I miss the Cutty's really functional side doors. but for cargo and flying joy I like the C1

So the C1 flys better than the Cutty B ? I'm thinking about an CCU from the Cutty B LTI to the C1 :D but not sure yet... i guess it's a good fit as i'll probably play much solo and do hauling and stuff... or mining on a planet and than hauling it :D where the additional space for vehicles + cargo could be great. Also i like that the C1 has everything needed for living...

@@Hitman006xp man, I like them both. I like the doors on the Cutty, don't like them on the C1. Haven't used the tractor on either. Hard for me to recommend one over the other.

C1 currently has over double the hull health. Those cutlass engines like running away in a multi ship fight.

Very good comparision - thank you! I really tried hard to like the C1 better than the Cuttie but I just cannot, mostly beacuse of 2 things that did not make it into this video: The C1 - like all Crusader ships - is much too wide for my taste. Second is the just 2 MFDs for the pilot.

I flew a Cutty Black for years as my sole ship and although I still fly it, I love the looks of the Spirit C1 a lot more.

I’ve had both, and I prefer the C1, but I do miss the black’s weapons. What I don’t miss is how crippled it gets losing one of those massive engines. The C1 can survive losing a wing with far more grace.

Cutty B always. it is one of shortest and narrow med multi crew ships that can still get a Roc to fit and get into smaller caves than other ships of the same class.

I've done enough direct ship purchasing for SC that the C1 doesn't interest me (Freelancer DUR, MSR, and Herc M2), but I definitely see how it fits in this grouping. The Freelancer is smack in the middle between hauler utility and combat potential, flanked by the C1 and Cutlass. I'd also argue that the MSR is the next-tier combination of all 3, though the Freelancer MAX, Connie-T, Zeus CL, and Argo RAFT share that space as well, each with their (sometimes substantial) ups and downs.

I love the C1 but the only problem with it is like its big brother, it basically has a big ol sign above it that says "look at me, im hauling cargo". I have both and love them both but fly the cutty b more, mostly because of the side door access.

C1 was designed for a detailed space sim. Cutty exists for an FPS game. SC is favoring shooter but still not divorced from space sim. C1 is my favorite ship. But the cutty is more useful in the current state of the game.

I love my Cutty. It might not be the prettiest, it might not have the best cargo grid, but it more than makes up for it with versatility.

The engines on the cutlass are prone to one major flaw, they tend to violently fly off when something near by explodes, and I do like the VTOL feature of them and the noise, but they tend to kind of go away on their own adventure. Got stuck on a planet when i kind of caused another ship to explode and both me engines abandoned me. Ship was still on but imagine a rocket exploding near you when they do work and you are in space...

Cutlass is more versatile especially in combat but when it comes speed and cargo c1 wins.

Unfortunately for players, the cutlass is almost always used by enemy NPCs doing drops and even when with players… they are often the pirate type. It’s a risk letting someone in a cutty land by you, so for that reason alone… I would go with something else. Also, no toilet in the cutty so hopefully you don’t mind evacuating into the void of space or into a bucket 😂

I think it kinda sucks how CIG removed the defense turret on the C1 for a tractorbeam (kinda stupid too as having it on rails is pointless as you only use the tractorbeam in the rear position). Imo they should have just given the C1 a stationary turret on the C1 (so no rails) and then have a tractorbeam at the rear. Now it's a 2-crew ship where 1 person has nothing to do. If it had a defense turret and the tractorbeam, the co-pilot would have always had something to do. So now the Spirit C1 is the better solo ship while the Cutlass Black is better for 2 people. Landing bays were kinda tight due to the massive width of the C1 but I believe it now gets assigned a larger hangar. Originally I owned a Cutlass Black (mostly because it reminded me of the Razor Crest from The Mandalorian tv-series). However, I decided to upgrade it to a Spirit C1 as I really like the design of Crusader ships. EDIT: Also, the Cutlass has no escape pods whereas the Spirit has them right behind the cockpit. So good luck floating out the airlock while the ship is about to blow. :P EDIT2: YT is acting wierd again, so apologies if this comment shows up twice

so you're happy with your upgrade to the C1? Thinking about CCU my Cutlass Black LTI to the C1 right now... so far i played mostly solo and like hauling. Sounds good for me :D. Buy the C1 and earn a ROC ingame i guess.

@@Hitman006xp Yeah, it's a pretty nice ship and it also has all the amenities inside for when those become needed. Still a shame it doesn't have a defense turret so there's nothing for that second person to do and imo the default position of the tractorbeam should be at the back instead of on top. However, when using it solo it works perfectly fine. I used it during that "Save Stanton" cargo mission and it worked perfectly as you have easy access to the cargohold and the ship has enough storage to haul quite a bit of cargo without any issues. Now it doesn't have a lot of shielding when compared to something like the Freelancer but it could hold its own against some NPC pirates.

Personally I prefer the C1. The Cutty has to much wasted space that could have been used for the most basic ameneties. That big triangular space should have a table in it. The useless co-pilot seat should controll a remote turret and the entrance for the manned turret should have been a toilet like on the Cutty Red. The big useless "mudflaps" on the front dont really do things for it either. It has its uses but the C1 is just the better ship imo.

your right, at some point I'm going to be doing another video that features the freelancer with one of the other two ship. The main purpose of the 'verses' series is to just focus on comparing two ships. this is so I can get as indept as I can while keeping the video as close as I can to a ten minute format. But I had to at least acknowledge the freelancer as being another contender that fit within this same strata of ships.

I’ll admit it is a hard choice between these two. I much prefer the look of the C1 but the practicality of the Cutty wins out. While I wish we still had the cockpit enterance the original model had but the extra side doors is great.

I've got the C1 and I want to love it but when all is said and done I don't. I find myself using the Cutty B over the C1 at every turn. I would love to go back to a Freelancer Mis (had one a while ago) but it sorely needs reviewing, as the cockpit view is awful and its inability to carry any meaningful vehicle puts a big old cross in the negative column. I think for me the major concern will be how the Zeus affects this particular category.

Hey so fun fact. Due to the 90 Degree Flat surfaces of the Spirits wings and such, the Spirits are SLOWER than the Cutlasses in Atmosphere. 220m/s is normal flight speed in Nav Mode (1.40km height) while the Cutlass sits at around 240m/s. Not only that, Spirits boost speed while in nav mode gives you barely any speed increase (around 10-20m/s extra) while the cutlass bumps it up to 300m/s. Spirit (much like the MSR and Hercules) are pretty useless in atmospheric flight, cause they are too big and with pretty poor surface angles which makes it fly more like a brick.
