My starter was the Titan and even though I have far too many ships it's still one of my favorites.

Got myself the Cutter as a Starter when I started in 2022. Originally I was deciding between the 315P and the Nomad because I wanted something with proper livingquaters. But then the Cutter hit right the first day of IAE and I decided to take it for a spin during freefly. Bought it the next day. No regrets.

I absolutely LOVE the Avenger Titan! The only thing I miss on the Avenger are a small weaponrack and a small slide-out toilet. But the Avenger still needs a slight overhaul as it doesn't have accessible component bays yet; so maybe CIG will add some other stuff too because there are also hatches near the door that don't open yet.

Once they actually bring engineering online I'm sure a lot of ships are going to suddenly have a new interior pass done. And for these small ships I wonder how many components will be interior vs exterior access
@4mazingZarek3 ай бұрын
Bought cutter as my starter ship and love it to death. Im also fairly sure it could be an OK plataform for PVE if you use it in a stealth aproach with balistic long range weapons. Like a small versatile little sniper. As soon as engineering gets online, i can see myself fitting my cutter out with 2 deadbolt II balistic cannons and sniping from out of detection range, taking out components, starting fires and being a nuisance in general. In Erkul, Cutter jumps from 244 DPS to DPS from this single change. Also, it has a large personal vehicle space for loot, alowing you to store FPS things in it, outside of whatever is on your cargo area.
@PsyEm-p1j3 ай бұрын
Love the idea of this but I am not sure the Cutler is capable of being out of detection range while using Deadbolts? The Cutters IR signature is just under 9000 metres and the max DB 2 range is just under 2500 metres. I think closet you’d get before detected would be around 7000 metres ish? Even if you put Strife Mass Drivers on with a range of 5500 meters you’d still be detectable so this might not work for you unless you have something cooler planned?

This is probably my favorite comparison so far. I like both ships. For many of the reasons stated. I really like the idea of having a ship that can stay out for extended periods allowing players to be more or less self sufficient. I can't help but appreciate the look and feel of the avenger which seems to draw inspiration from mid century fighters. The cutter on the other hand is like having an RV stocked with everything you could want. Ive purchased two of them so far. A side note, I can't help but hear the calming voice of James Holden, when he isn't shouting, when you narrate your videos. Thank you for this overview. I look forward to more.

I did a cargo hauling contract in the cutter scout the other day. 10scu cargo needed to be hauled. I was able to fit 10scu in the cargo bay, relatively comfortably....emphasis on relatively. It would have been far easier and I could have put more in there if the cutter had a ladder entrance similar to the titan. But without that nice aspect I got 10 in with enough space to utilize a tractor beam to be able to clear my way out as well.
@ericwollaston56543 ай бұрын
I chose the Drake Cutter Scout, as the advantages of the Avenger are not useful to me. I prefer having VTOL to aerodynamics, and combat is not what I seek out. Plus, I can fit my Mule.

I did the same!! I also like the color lol but I like having a terrapin type ship for 1/4 the price and I love the cutter (:

If im not mistaken titan does have vtol. That was my starter ship and i remember using it with it.
@ericwollaston56543 ай бұрын
@ducktape4502 All Ships have bottom thrusters that can provide enough lift to hover (until the overheat mechanic is added back in) but only certain ships have dedicated VTOL thrusters. One way is to have adjustable positioning for the main engines like the Cutter, Terrapin, or Cutlass. The other is to have separate thrusters locked downward for VTOL capabilities like the Carrack or Mercury. The slightly rarer one in the Spirit and Hercules series have adjustable thrusters that VTOL our provide thrust in alternate directions than forward. Some ships have combinations is the above.

The Avenger definitely could use a final gold standard pass once we have things like food processors working to bring its living area up a little for functionality. But otherwise I just couldn't recommend a cutter over it. The Avenger has such an incredible style, and is so functional that i think it will still keep a new player more engaged with their ship and happy to take it out every time.

Big rambler fan. Can squeeze an 8 SCU container in it with some fiddling, amazing fuel. It's not big for combat sure but if you're doing bunkers it's pretty nice, mostly if you can get to the distro centers. Internal storage for 3.23 is one of the largest in just about any ship, I believe it was 4.2 SCU worth of stuff you could load into it. Titan will overtake the rambler at the very least with 3.24... physicalizing the items nuked the 4.2 SCU internal storage with a locker that only has I believe .6 SCU.

my starter was a aroura then a titan then i traded from the titan to a cutter and some paints lol . iv been using my cutter for cargo hauling missions, works great can bounce from station to station just hauling and never really worry about fuel. i did like 7 hauling missions and only burned about 1/4th tank of quantum fuel. by far my favorite ship so far has a little living quarters nice little cargo area small easy to fly in and out of hangers and fuel efficient can make 500,000 auec in one evening just hauling cargo its nice get to see more of the system than just doing pve missions i run all over the map haven't had any issues with players shooting me yet . next is either going to be a Zeus or a c1 i haven't decided
@rurallawwildwest96793 ай бұрын
Had both. Kept titan (my first ship and the two access points) and can carry a pulse. It can also hold everything from bunkers and deluveries. I upgraded cutter to something bigger. It completely cuts out ship consideration so you lose a game loop. While it can carry a few more small vehicles than the titan, none of them really offer much. Upgraded to something that can carry a ROC. Buy the C8X in game for traveling around.

Why wouldn't the Titan be a starter? It has a game package under 100$ so it's definitely a starter. And my personal favourite, I take the Titan's performance over the Cutter's amenities.
@DanakarEndeelАй бұрын
Never understood why the Cutter is so durable as Drake usually uses cardboard for armor; so this Cutter is definitely an odd duck (also because of its puny guns which is very unlike Drake). Another thing the Cutter doesn't have (I think) is an ejection seat as Drake doesn't do ejection seats (except for the Caterpillar/Ironclad where the entire command module can detach and serve as a small ship). The Avenger does have an ejection seat but I really hope that CIG will implement something like retrothrusters or parachutes or something because it's an automatic death sentence if you eject while flying in atmosphere due to having no way to slow your descent after ejecting (which makes no sense).
@tyranavalon3 ай бұрын
I expect that when the time comes for an update to the Titan, a lot of the missing amenities will make their way in. After all, the Titan was announced and released back in 2015 for 2.1. As far as I can find online, there are no records of and updates since aside from the cargo grid and the gimble changes that happened relatively recently. I believe there is space on the interior for those amenities if some of the components are relocated to either the cockpit access or cargo bay.

While i love my Invictus Titan, and it's still often my daily, I also recommend the Cutter as the starter to get. Most players new to Star Citizen are probably familiar with FPS which the Cutter is great for. But most are not familiar with flight sims (3 degrees of freedom) let alone space sims (6 degrees of freedom) so let them learn to fly first and buy a proper fighter later than trying to do ship combat as a beginner in the Titan.

As a very noncombat player... Titan all the way. That higher top speed means that you can get those missions finished faster. And it's better to fly in atmosphere, so it doubles down on going fast. You aren't paying for combat ability, you're paying for that extra speed.
@operator9858Күн бұрын
if the base cutter would have had the scanner package of the scout (or the scout had come as a starter) i would have gone for it but without it? avenger seems better on almost every front and you can get it on sale. and as far as why you would want a few more combat features? you arent always going to be pveing and this thing can clear pve areas from the air more effectively as well while you can also get out of trouble when things go south far easier. but ya cost will be a major concern later for the low end ships. i want cheap and disposable as i can get while still doing as many base capabilities as possible.

I started out with a Mustang and the Cutter definetly beats everything in that tier with all it can do. But it really gets outdone by the Avenger, still my go-to solution. And i suspect, that a lot of the disadvantages will be remedied whenever the Titan gets its next gold standard pass

To me a Starter is your cheapest ship, one you will never replace as your go everywhere type ship. Once you get bigger ships having a smaller ship that can take you from A to B is what a starter really is. A Titan does not have the QT Fuel to do what the Cutter can. Sure it’s decent at combat but A Titan can be replaced at a later stage. Although I now have an Aquila I still use my Cutter. If I had a Titan for a starter, I would’ve sold it to buy the Cutter again.

Both are great starter ships, and I agree that the Titan should be classified as a starter ship. This was a really helpful review, especially because it actually made me want to go ahead and get another Titan after 3.24 finally goes live. My only thought is that the Titan needs a new feature pass with the new game features coming into play soon. Thanks again for another awesome review!

Scout, It can see other ships before they see you, best vehicle transport abilities, compact sized HAB that doesn't loose anything that you can't live without, same weapons load out as the others, added ability to create points of interest that you can jump to, and it could be kitted out to be a good stealth ship by using the radar and outfitting it with all stealth components. That would be my pick.

my advice would be go cheap and get either the aurora MR or the Mustang Alpha. Both are 40 dollars (used to be $35). And wait for a free to fly event before you buy anything. They usually have deals during them so you might be able to find something on discount and even get some extra goodies to go along with it, like a unique skin or armor set. They also usually do referral rewards during that time, so if you use someone referral code you can get an extra ground vehicle, weapons or armor to go along with it.
