It is nice to see that you are making good use of your Reliant & going to various places. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the wide variety of locomotives & rolling stock @ the Gala and I look forward to seeing where you go next a what vehicle you travel in.

This is what I was really hoping for; another outing on the Apedale Valley Light Railway. The sheer variety of locomotives, rolling stock and liveries made me realize what I was missing by writing off narrow gauge railways entirely, and I'm glad that you've brought attention to it- so many people focus on the standard gauge stuff, and while it's great that we have so much standard gauge stuff in preservation, I also think they don't know what they're missing on the narrow gauge lines. I'm sure the railways you've visited are glad that you're bringing attention to narrow gauge preservation.

Hi Lawrie, at work in September on a blazing hot day we had a volunteer day and regraded the incline down the embankment near the depot. Really enjoyable day and will be getting in touch soon to get more involved!

Great video of an interesting railway. A question. Why do Simplex locomotives have the radiator at right angles to the direction of travel?
@CaptainKrimson2 жыл бұрын
I think to eliminate the difference in cooling going forward and backwards.
@lmm2 жыл бұрын
I believe that's it. They don't go fast enough to really get the effect of air being forced through it either.

Great video, but how did they not put 104 and GP39 together? The nearest they got was being about 4 metres away from each other in the yard. Even if they couldn’t be put together on a train, surely they must’ve been able to park them next to each other?

I think they did a photo charter for that.

If this day was ment to demostrate rush hour on railway, yes, it was perfectly done! I judge this video as the best of last few months. Probubly because I'm not so interested in that pile of crap on wheels as much as in railways and trains and diesel and steam locomotives. Thank You

@MrJMS8142 жыл бұрын
@@lmm I feel you on that one... My old '97 SAAB has been showing its age with a faint knock lately. But with the Reliant being a more unusual car I'd still think theres a chance that's just how it sounds normally. Some cars just sound strange to begin with, you know what I mean? Hahaha

It's sad that the trains are actualy just preforming Color guard and not actualy carrying freith apart from pasanger. A Locomotive is only as usefull as you make it. There are definitly odd jobs to do for they's oldys. The steamers i mean. Make them electric instead of coal ore wood burning and they are even Eco Friendly.
@bentullett60682 жыл бұрын
Steam locomotives only produce 1% of the global emissions so aren't as bad as it seems. Some of the narrow gauge railways are in fact trialling bio coal. The issue with turning all of the engines electric is that you loose the character of these historic pieces of engineering and to charge them would take ages. Plus even though the locomotives are only carrying passengers they are useful for attracting tourists to the different places across the UK and even the world and people do come to the railways for the sights, sounds and smells of the past. I am a volunteer at the Severn Valley Railway and I have suggested that to improve emissions and reduce coal consumption on all loco's is by not converting the locomotives to electricity but have a specially made or convereted carriage which has batteries and a electric motor bogie set to help push the locomotives when they go up the gradients which means that they don't need to burn more coal when going up a gradient. The diesel's on our line can easily be switched to a bio diesel at some point in the future as the British freight company GB railfreight are trialling it and they do store quite a few of their historic class 50 locomotives at the SVR. We are also currently building a hydrogen powered shunter in conjunction with a university, which utilises a old class 08 diesel shunter that was going to be used for spares and never used again.
@lmm2 жыл бұрын
The railway isn't big enough to actually carry freight in a meaningful way. Demonstrating the kind of trains they would have pulled is very important. Currently electricity isn't viable to run a steam locomotive.
