I think Drake has underestimated the power of social media. Most people who were aware of the first few tracks began to pay heavy attention to each other’s IG and accounts and if you didn’t see it there, you were guaranteed to see it mentioned on X or Facebook in a matter of minutes after it dropped. Not one person I know of learned about Not Like Us because of Spotify or other streaming services. And the song didn’t last as long as it did because of boosting either - it did because of the controversy and the fact that it’s a jamming song. I don’t have Spotify, I use Apple Music, and Amazon Music. Both showed “Not Like Us,” as recommended when I logged in, but they also showed songs by Aubrey as well. I don’t recall any of the songs being his battle songs, just his popular songs. It’s rumored that he might be trying to get out of his contract to go independent, or that he was looking to score a billion dollar contract, which is why he wanted Kendrick to, “show him his splits.” Aubrey signed that 400 million deal, and let everyone know. People had been saying his was just okay, but he wants a billion? Whether UMG pushed Kendrick’s song or not, Aubrey started the slander first. He talked about Kendrick’s fiancé, said he heard one of the kids wasn’t his, then basically called her a whore. Remember, “ shake that ass for me, then shake that ass for Free?” Kendrick suggested they keep it a friendly fade, not get personal. Aubrey ignored him. Now he’s butt hurt and looking to gather information to sue, not Kendrick, but UMG, for allowing Not like us to be released. He didn’t go after, “ meet the graham’s.” Why? That song says the same thing as not like us pretty much. The difference? “ Not like us,” did much bigger numbers worldwide, and Aubrey doesn’t like that. No one except Taylor Swift and maybe occasionally, Beyonce could possibly do bigger sales, streams, and replays, than him. Especially not a rapper like Kendrick. It’s weird to me, how The info Aubrey had in his disses, Kendrick being SA’ed, beating his fiancé, ( that was Diddy,) was all wrong, but okay for him to release in a song.

I’m a 51 y/old mom, a swiftie, who never listened to rap until Drake called out the Swifties in Taylor Made. I checked it out & got obsessed with the battle and Kendrick’s music, because he’s amazing. I deleted the one Drake song I owned because I was so disgusted by what Drake said in the beef about Whitney and his post-beef behavior, which has been horrible. I never even listened to Spotify until this lawsuit. LOL. I buy all my music on Apple Music and keep it. I found out about the beef from Drake and stayed around for Kendrick. It was organic. No advertising needed. I did find some great new music on Spotify though, which I purchased.

In the same vein that Drake has not been held accountable for that, Eminem has the song 'Guilty Conscience' which promotes listeners to rape underage girls (15 years old in the song), never held accountable. KRS-ONE back in the day released the song '13 And Good' under Boogie Down Productions which promotes raping underage girls (13 years old in the song). Certainly sounds like it's a potential SLAPP suit, given the only intention here is to interfere with another artist's income stream & business. I can't see how "exposing" the same wheeling & dealing behind-the-scenes that Drake's _absolutely_ been a benefactor of himself, achieves anything in this situation... especially when his hands are far from clean with regards to escalating the beef with Kendrick. Between this & the whole iHeartRadio filing it feels like Drake may have been holding the botting/payola stuff in his back pocket as leverage against UMG, but his emotions got the better of him (probably had his 'yes men' in his ear about Lamar too) and he pulled the trigger on the lawsuit at the wrong time. After all, I don't see how one of the biggest artists in the world - who still exceeds Kendrick's numbers in terms of streams, downloads, ticket sales, etc - can argue that Kendrick diminished his reputation & impacted his business in any way. Because while the hip-hop community are laughing at him, they aren't Drake's primary market anyway. No matter which way I look at it, I keep ending up at "Drake's salty that Kendrick has success, and his ego can't cope." Might have to change it from the 'Streisand Effect' to the 'Drake Effect'!

What's amusing is that throughout the beef, and in "whacked out murals" Kendrick has been making a broader point about how the industry is rotten, Drake was often just a personification of that rot. From what I've read I really don't expect the petition to be granted, but it would be hilarious if Drake's legal action would play into "make Kat Williams and them proud."
