@autistic-lutheran-carnivore2 жыл бұрын
I believe not stopping and asking a cop to direct him off of the parade route was WILLFUL! Continuing down the parade route was WILLFUL! Aiming the SUV to be in the path of people was WILLFUL! Driving at 33 MPH was WILLFUL because that involves a WILLFUL act to have the foot push down on the accelerator! This was not a case where his brakes were not working. Him continuing down the parade route with his brakes not working, I believe would be disregard for human life. Him driving into a telephone pole or a street light or into an unoccupied police squad car or any unoccupied car would be appropriate if the brakes were not working. But the brake were working.
@autistic-lutheran-carnivore2 жыл бұрын
@@Arminsaf2 It wasn't just that. Many other parts of this show that these were WILLFUL decisions Darrell Brooks made, not to disregard human life, but actively to end human life. If I am at Summerfest (hypothetical), close my eyes, and shoot a gun in random directions, I believe that is disregard for human life. However, if I took the same gun, w/ my eyes open, aiming and random people and then shooting these random people, I am intently committing murder. So, why didn't Darrell Brooks have intent when he purposefully and willful aimed his vehicle at people instead of stopping at an earlier part of the parade route and following police instructions on how to get off the parade route?

My interpretation of his tears are: They are just as real as an actor who thinks of personal experience in hardship and sadness to portray a scene. So, they are real, and there is definitely sorrow felt, but it's all from a selfish position: his family, friends and how that means to himself. I honestly don't believe he actually, at least currently, cares about the community. The interrogation videos and the way he's conducted himself shows his disregard of emotion to what he did and centered on himself.

Attorney Opper said she appreciated Judge Dorow for what she was doing and admitted she (and they) knew why she had chosen to go the route she had with his case. I could be wrong, but it seems to me like Judge Dorow did everything in her power to make sure there wasn't a mistrial and next to none chance of a successful appeal. I agree those might be real tears... for HIMSELF, since it is finally being impressed upon him that he is going to jail for the rest of his life. We have all seen how he speaks and acts in court, being so extremely and unnecessarily rude to the judge, that many of us are cringing and can barely watch. Even though most of us love some courtroom fireworks! This is beyond all that, he has completely crossed the line and although I truly respected this judge (and still do, as I could NEVER display this level of patience), I do believe she has let him get over on her. Specifically when he gives his little speech about "no one's gonna tell me to do anything. I'm a grown man"...That would've been the end of it for me, as the judge. She can still protect his rights, but absolutely should've made it known right there and then, that he will do what she TELLS him to do, and she does not have to ask him for things like he's doing her a favor by complying with her minimal requests of him. Great video as always!

He was smiling because in his brain you know being a total narcissist, he thinks he accomplished something. But the only thing he accomplished was to make himself look even more guilty. When your prosecution said no objections no cross examination all that his brain said, "nailed it!" but they had no reason to cross because he made himself look bad and they couldn't have did a better job of cross examining him then he did of himself.

Bit belated. While I'm normally up for a chance to criticize DB's behavior, in this particular case, given the timing of it... I think the simplest answer (which I heard from Rob from Law & Lumber) is probably true: DB was experiencing an adrenaline rush. From what Rob said, the first time you give your opening statements and call your own first witness (rather than cross examining) is kind of terrifying.

Wisconsin allows lesser included offenses. In Wisconsin, reckless homicide is a class b felony punishable by 60 years. At a minimum, just for the 6 deaths, he’s looking at 360 years. For 61 of the other charges it is 15 each. That’s another 915 years. He will die in prison.

Darrell believed Nick's answer was going to be that he did not see the car running oeople over, because Nick lied on the stand. The first officer testified that Nick, Erika and Corey were standing and speaking with him when the calls started coming over the radio about Darrell running people over. That officer also testified that he had to choose to leave the scene with Erika to go help with the parade casualties because Erika wasn't being cooperative and he was needed more urgently at the mass casualty event Darrell had just created at the parade. Nick testified that he and the girls left the scene after speaking with the officer, walked to the women's shelter to drop the girls off, and then he headed back to his house via Main Street and that's when he saw the red suv "take off like a bat out of hell" and run through the parade, hitting everyone. Apparently Nick has a time machine and set it to rewind by many minutes, because otherwise it would be literally impossible for him to have seen Darrell run over any of the parade participants. Also it was not Erika who said there was a knife involved to get the police there faster. She had refused to call the police so Nick called them. He is the one that lied about the knife. Nick tripped on his way off of the witness stand and then attempted to exit out of the wrong door. That is why Darrell was laughing. Because he's a mean little six year old and gets off on other people's pain and discomfort. Nick also lied and tried to make it seem as though he was the one who stepped in between Darrell and Erika on the video, but it was actually Corey who "chested up" to Darrell, as she said.

I appreciate the breakdowns and explanations. Many have said the Judge has given him too much leniency by explaining the law or process but I can appreciate the value in her doing that. Many laypeople (like myself) watching can learn a lot about how law, facts, evidence, etc. are applied (or not applied) in practice that really shows how our justice system operates.

They probably make exception on the NCO in court. I don't think they would want to divulge in any way that there's an NCO because of the prior acts ruling. A bigger issue I would think would be the 32 phone calls he's made to her while in jail. Thats a violation of the NCO.

I'm elated he got handed first degree intentional homicide charges. I get that no matter what, he would have been sentenced to life but, to me, it's highly important that he was charged with intentional homicide because, for him to have been charged with less would have only reinforced his demented, narcissistic "justification" of not being held accountable for what he truly did.

Re: intent- I am from WI. I grew up about 45 min from Waukesha. I did a nursing clinic there. I have friends there. If I am acting as juror here’s what I know that those not from there don’t. 1. It’s not a huge place. 2. Wisconsin is notorious for having parades for everything and it’s going to be on the same street every year. 3. Everyone knows about the parade bc again small town everyone knows everyone so to speak. I guarantee Brooks knew about the parade and where it was. It’s impossible not to. The car was driven into the parade with no stopping or slowing down. It’s been proven the car wasn’t faulty. It’s been proven it’s him. His name is proven. The car is proven to belong to his mom etc. all of that including what I know about Waukesha proves to me it was intentional. The parade itself and the location is not a surprise to anyone there.

The same here in rural Texas we have parades on main Street most small towns do this fool got angry that his girlfriend went to a battered women's shelter because he beat her up.and instead of changing her# she kept communicating with him but when he punched her and she called her friends and they called the police he knew he was going to jail he took his anger on a crowd of innocent families and children had he done this in Texas he would have got the death penalty! he wouldn't be acting that way in our courts here!

DB is scared to death because he knows his days are numbered because his paperwork says he’s a grandma KiLLeR, child KiLLeR, sex offender & he’s thrown up gang signs. 🎯 on his back! It’s absolutely impossible to protect this inmate. We don’t have protective custody in facilities anymore because they just don’t work! Brooks will not be able to be housed in Wisconsin. I think the intent was proved when the people at the end of the parade route said he stuck his head out the window, looked back at what he had done, looked “excited and happy” and then sped up and kept going. At that point, he chose to keep going and hitting more people. Maybe the first 2 or 3 weren’t legally “intentional” and premeditated, but by the end it certainly was.
