In this video I’m exploring more monotype printmaking techniques in my home print studio.
In this video I'm adding simple hand monoprints to existing drypoint etchings. They've already got chine colle and collage on them- here I'm using low-tech solutions to add colour and depth.
These are low-budget, simple monoprinting techniques that you can use to do printing at home.
Lots more artwork at www.ruthander.co.uk
My new self-paced video course is now available to buy- 'Landscape Impressions' guides you though making beautiful, atmospheric landscapes with hand-printing techniques as well as showing you the joy of improvisational and serendipitous printmaking.
Go to www.ruthander.co.uk for more information and to buy.

Your prints are beautiful! I am new to printmaking (intaglio - although I have worked in Encaustic Monotype for years) and just a week ago took a workshop and learned chine colle (yay me!). May I ask: are you making your own chine colle papers using archival tissue and etching ink or thin oil paint? My passion is abstract and being able to make my own chine colle from tissue gets me excited for future works! I am in Texas but would love to visit the UK for an in-person workshop with you or at minimum schedule a zoom lesson about using the chine colle papers for abstract landscapes - we have many amazing regions in Texas that would make beautiful chine colle prints! Thank you so much for all your videos and generosity in sharing your knowledge & artistic skills - I am slowly working my way thru all of them😁

Hi- sorry for the late reply- I've been on holiday (in a muddy field in the North- don't ask!). The short answer is yes, I use my own mrnoprinted tissue paper for chine colle. I had lots of it from making my landscapes on tissue paper, so it seemed logical to use them in my drypoint at the print studio. I use oil paint, rolled out very thinly for the monoprints, rather than etching ink, which I find too gloopy and sticky for monoprints on thin paper. I would love to visit Texas - I once spent 24 hours going through Texas on a train journey. The landscape and weather was amazing - I would have loved to get off and explore. Not sure if you'd eb interested, but I'm doing a 5 week online 'Landscape Monoprint' course in September - spikeprintstudio.org/courses/monoprint-landscapes-5-wk-online-course-with-ruth-ander/ The sessions will be 1.30-3pm British time- I'm not sure how that translates to Texan time, but they are all recorded anyway. I'm also releasing my own 'Landscape Impressions' self-paced video course in the autumn (hopefully September). Check out www.ruthander.co.uk or join my mailing list. Phew! That reply wasn't meant to be so long!

What material is your work surface made of? Would it work well in glass? (which would make it easier to clean, and even see through it by placing a camera under the work surface or a lamp, to make a lightbox.?

I just saw on your very first video that you use perspex :)

Hi- yes, perspex, but you can use glass (I would put some tape round the edges just to be safe. Anything smooth and flat would do- old place mat, large smooth ceramic tile...You could make a simple light box too- though I've not tried it. That would make registration a lot easier!
