@@LayersOfJenn it is 'New Bamboo', but the etymology is actually pretty interesting. The original Taiwanese aboriginal people who lived in the area called it something like 'tekcham' (the original word is lost to history). When Han Chinese settlers from Fujian started settling in the area in the 18th century, they phonetically approximated that word in Taiwanese Minnan as 竹塹 'tik-tsham' meaning 'bamboo barrier'. Later on during the Japanese colonial period the first character 竹 'bamboo' was reappropriated as an abbreviation in the city name 新竹 (Japanese Shinchiku, Taiwanese Sin-tik, Mandarin Xinzhu/Hsinchu) and other towns like Zhubei 'Bamboo North', Zhudong 'Bamboo East' and Zhunan 'Bamboo South'.

I think part of the problem is I want to wallpaper one wall and I can’t find the right paper so I can’t settle on bedding till I find that. I saw one I love in a video of someone I follow in Sweden.......not much chance of finding that in Halifax though.😥 I’m happy the apartment is starting to feel like home, are you starting to get stir crazy yet? You lived an active and social life in Japan, now not working, T being at work all day and you don’t know a lot of people yet, I’d be getting antsy and frustrated. Hi~This is my first time watching your videos. Just came up on my suggestions. Welcome to Taiwan! I am quite surprised that you are in Hsinchu. I am currently studying in National Tsing Hua University and my family lives here. I'm in my second year. It would be really nice to be able to meet you. Best wishes to you 💕

That appears to be one HUGE apartment! Aren't those scooter drivers NUTS! They keep you agile and your neck flexible.
@LayersOfJenn3 жыл бұрын
Haha they def do but, they seem really convenient 👌🏻

The amazing thing to notice in the old days on the scooters and motorcycles were the women sitting sidesaddle doing their nails while their "driver" possibly husband motored across town... I am not sure that exists any more.

I am not sure if you heard yet, but each receipt includes a lotto (because it is Taiwan's simple solution to retail taxation efficiency) so, the numbers at the top of the receipt can be checked I think on ODD months on the 25th, for winning up to 2 million NT (depending on exchange rate around $80,000 USD, or for Canadian Dollars over 100,000 right now) You are living in a great part of Taiwan that became the high tech center !

I am watching the video and thinking: Wait, when did this happen?:D Like yesterday you were talking how you want to move that apartment in Japan but it was too complicated and now you are in Taiwan in a huuuge apartment :))) Time is going so fast! And yeah, I've noticed how different you are when T is filming you. You seem a bit nervous or something I don't know, I might be wrong. It's very cute though ❤️
@LayersOfJenn3 жыл бұрын
Do I seem nervous!? I think I get more shy bc people stare more when a camera is being pointed at you by someone else. Usually I’m sneaky and just whip out the camera and film. And yeah one of the reasons we didn’t move was incase we were ok’d to move abroad actually :)

Hello! I normally watch everything from my bf account because it's too late and his account has all my preferences etc. and he gets better recommendations for me than my own account lol but it makes commenting confusing so I've logged into my own account to comment. I love your channel, have been binging all your old Japan vlogs and I'm still not done yet (will be sad when I am though😭). Love the food, clothes and general life. You seem like a nice person :) Love from London x
