10:12 Taiwanese table manner is very important to a Taiwanese in a formal dinner. It always shows your attitude, or education, or how this guy been raised up. It is similar to Japan's education. For Taiwan's traditional table manner, you always lift up your bowl to your mouth. Even you use a spoon for the rice or soup, you lift up your bowl to your mouth. You never bend down your neck and back to the food on the table. This is very different to Western table manner. Today, Taiwanese people may not be so serious to other people's table manner when they are having street food. Taiwanese are easy going, so they will not ask Foreigner to follow all the table manner in Taiwanese way. But it is always good to know some of them. Another big offend that you never want to do is " Never put your chopsticks or spoon, or fork into rice bowl and make it upright. It means it is for dead people's food."
@LayersOfJenn4 жыл бұрын
Yes in japan we also never ever stabbed our rice etc with the chopsticks like that!! And thank you for the Taiwanese table manners advice :)

Ahhh okay!! I wanted to make sure in the restaurant because I didn’t want to look worse than I already did (filming myself) 😅😅
@weihanho99174 жыл бұрын
No, it doesn't matter you lift up your bowl or put it on table. Table manners are casual in Taiwan.
@jethrolai4 жыл бұрын
@@weihanho9917 It is indeed pretty casual most of time. I did not say when you don't do it, you will be considered as having bad manner; instead, if you do do it, you will seem having a good manner. Make sense? I did grow up in a family that when I didn't lift my bowl up while dining with elders, I got punished. I do believe it's still true today when you dine in a more former setting.

Wow, not everyone eats those! I did back in the old days 1990-1993 studying at the MTC, and half of one my son didn't eat in 2010 on our first full day exploring Taipei after a 17 year break (vacation) *back when all the weird bizarre food was on tv, he was up for trying everything.
