That's how I was when I got to the helicopter...bleeding like a stuck pig. I was hit by shrapnel in my legs, arms, left foot, and right flank with liver and kidney damage. If the chopper didn't get me to the MASH unit as quickly as it did, I would have bled out. How I got onto a vehicle and a stretcher under my own power I'll never know. Must have been adrenaline.

The ‘chaos’ and the desperation of teenagers on both sides trying to kill each other by ‘any means necessary’…just the fact of surviving such an event is life changing, not to mention exhilarating…We can all go up that ‘road’ once because we don’t know what’s waiting for us… First time we took 7 Casualties 2KIA 5 wounded…3 NVA KIA…. We continued on our Patrol route light 7 men…. No gun team either…3 weeks later… same Patrol Route… same funky feeling pressing your senses… All of them…If you live through a few ambushes, you might learn enough to survive your tour… Experience in Combat…You can’t buy it, nobody pins it on you….You have to walk down that road every time the order you too…. Our forces won 90% of the battles. By 1973, our air superiority knocked out every single SAM site and faced no opposition after that. The NVA violated every single cease fire agreement prior. We held the cards and our 'leaders' were in a position to demand nothing less than unconditional surrender...they lost the war, not our military.
@Nicolas-f8u5c15 күн бұрын
They lost it because that was their bennefit while still looking good. LBJ wanted a War that wasn't a war so he would still get support and said "The reason we didn't invade North Vietnam was because of China" even tho every intelligence agency said they were too weakenned from the Korean War to intervene. It's all about profit over human lives. Just like all other conflicts.

I was so incredibly lucky to grow up in Europe those days - so I just had to lay back and enjoy the fantastic music coming out at that time . The last part of this song - albeit the long version,not the one featured in this video - was the absolute best ... with Duane Allman on slide if memory serves me well . The very moment I write this Germany & the EU are contemplating to reintroduce the draft again - to support a total corrupt regime in a war in a country far far away ... precisely like in those days of the Vietnam war ... Only to benefit that very small tiny elite owning 'our' industrial/financial military complex and their little goons in politics profiting from it . The world has learned absolutely NOTHING ... Peace out everyone - take care and teach your (grand-)children well❤
