Best marklin catenary demonstration that i have ever seen. Now i have the confidence to unpack my catenary and put some up!

Even though I did my own vintage layout some time back and included catenary - it took me ages to work out all the pieces and how they fitted together. Your instructions are great and I wish I could have watched this when I built my layout. One fast question though. In the station area with four sidings why did you not use the larger masts with cross spans? It is extremely rewarding however to watch electric locomotives running with pantographs up and drawing power from the catenary. In particular I run older large steam locos on the line with extremely productive smoke generators - I love watching three locos running under wire with billows of smoke clouding up the scene. It brings back childhood memories

Welcome back! Re. your question: I do have cross spans and masts/lights masts. To install them would have required quite a bit of space on each side of the track which simply isn't available on this layout. Glad I could bring some memories back :)

@@The3rdRail thanks. I do pop in from time to time. I did think of the edge space issue after the question was posted. Thanks for confirming. The cross spans are great but also require quite a bit of work installing all the isolation pieces. Catenary was a non negotiable for me. Even though I have a fixed layout - which I love operating in automatic mode - running three trains - I continue to buy up track sections, catenary and signals which I clean up and pack away for a day when I can build a larger layout or introduce my grandsons to the hobby in fine style. My 5 year old grandson loves running both my outdoor G scale layout and the Marklin HO one.

Sounds very enjoyable indeed. We'll be able to compare records when the next video goes live next week. Take care.

Can I operate a DC catenary with DC locomotive simultaneously with the AC Marklin system, sharing the same outer-rails contact for returning current? I thought I ask before experiment with it.

I don't see why not. In analogue, I think that would mean DC locos can only travel in one direction though. I have read this configuration is used in digital by some people to run DCC electric locos without having to convert them to 3-rail.

I asked you before, but I can’t remember your answer. Sorry. So here goes again: is this layout-track-plan available to download or to buy from you? Thanks for the awesome clear videos.
