Awesome work here and such a good taste with the feel and all the blues vocabulary u put into your rendition of what could be an "all-time" classic/standard of the blues piano. Greetings from France

Love your stuff Olly. I already learned your version of Blue Bossa and love it. I saw in a comment that you are transcribing this F blues. I would love you to do a tutorial about about this with your runs and ideas. I would like to make some of my own lines, but I love a lot of the combinations you use.

Thank you for the nice comment! I'll certainly try to do a tutorial on jazz blues licks and patterns at some point :)

I love this - I’ve been learning your blues improvs by ear - it’s teaching me so much. One minor “complaint” about this one - the audio isn’t quite synced with the video. I learn by ear but also like to watch your hands to confirm what voicings you are using, etc.. is there a way for me to fix it? My other question - or request - is: you have a tutorial on walking bass lines. You have a tutorial on right hand improvisation with the blues scales, one on target notes, etc.. How about a tutorial on how you decide when to throw in chords here and there, and whether to do it with your right hand, your left hand, or both? The reason I ask, is that when playing solo, it seems I need three hands - and you solve that problem so beautifully - I want to learn how.

Thanks Kevin - yeah I think I just messed up the sync a bit on this one :/ In regards to your question, I think the best way to learn this is by listening to a lot of pianists, and just try to get a feel for when to use melodic lines, rhythmic chord stabs etc. Play through the form with a baseline and melody, then left hand chords and melody, then baseline and chords in right hand, get used to doing it all and then start mixing it together in ways that feel good

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. Attempting it the other way - just copying your arrangement - was a big fail, because I’m trying to memorize too much. Then I tried it your way, learning to improvise all the elements separately, I’m having more luck. It’s a slow process for me but it’s finally beginning to pay off. Thanks again Ollie!

Lovely stuff as always Olly! :) For many of us this material would be so much more educative if you could record the midi notes and put a digital keyboard in the buttom of the video, that we can see what you are playing in reel time clearly. Warm regards from Berlin man!
