I've really noticed that Goblin Slayer has been telephone game'd really hard just to fit this whole "too edgy" narrative. For example: What actually happened in its rape scene? A girl got her clothes ripped off literally in about 2 frames, a goblin grabbed her ass in 1 frame, we saw a wide shot of the scene for 1 frame, then we got about 10 frames of just her broken, dead eyed stare. What are people saying happened? Her clothes were very sexually and provocatively removed. The rape was very detailed and drawn out. It sexualized rape to make it more appealing. It was treated as if it was just a way to pander to fetishists. In reality, the entire scene was extremely quick, no more than a few seconds, and all anyone saw for any degree of time was just the pain in her face which made it look completely tragic. Examine really any scene people are complaining about from Goblin Slayer and you'll see its been telephoned to shit and their descriptions can't even come close to whats really going on.

Actually it felt like the goblin was looking at me while doing that to her and you know thinking "You're next" which was scary. My boyfriend didn't find it sexy and he actually does like the show even if this particular scene was a bit disturbing. I actually think the goblin slayers line after killing the goblins says a lot more than people give it credit for "The only good goblin is one that stays in it's hole". Goblins need human women to breed they're inherently going to rape to survive they're prone to violence so even if they were left in their hole they're a risk and the Slayer understands this better than anyone it makes it as black and white as possible.

Or also his line with cow girl "Hows work" "There is a lot" "Oh, then that is nice, doesnt it?" "No, thats bad, that means more goblins" That exchange shows how GS thinks, he is obsessed with killing them but not in them, in novel he also says some deep stuff, he is asked why he continues killing goblins all the time and he says "its because there wasnt anyone when it happened to me", he is out there to protect others, he is bad at expressing himself but he knows what has to be done, and his point is to avoid that from happening to other people, the man has a speck of humanity deep in himself even in all the swirling madness that goblins produce

We can’t do anything-we can do nothing! This makes no sense. We are the ones who steal; they are the ones who are stolen from. This? This makes me no different from the others. Adventurers burst into my nest and take what is mine-that makes me nothing but…nothing but a goblin! “GOURRR…” The goblin paladin, much more intelligent than any of his comrades, could tell that everything was over. With things as they were, the surviving goblins could hardly be expected to continue to obey him. Goblins had a strong sense of camaraderie, but what bound them together was greed. They killed those they hated, raped them, stole from them, humiliated them in the most awful ways. What else would a goblin do? -Goblin Paladin Monologue after Goblin Slayer's party raid his fortress and rescue kidnapped women.

Zombie thread I know, but no words have meaning for a reason, edgy is used to describe something that is dark or pretends to be for no good reason or that is the only defining trait of something/someone, in media it's often used to describe situations that rely purely on shock value. For example to me Berserk is not edgy but the novel on Grunbeld (a character of the series) is edgyness incarnate.

there is a huge difference between rape fantasy and actual rape. Some people get off with rape fantasy and from what I heard even women, but real rape is an atrocious act and GS depicted rape as it should. I've read a youtube commenter saying "she made a ahegao face while being raped, it's a fetish" I was like "WTF, did you see the same scene as I did?" so yeah those comments do say things about the person watching instead of the show.

There are a few issues that led to the current situation the first was cruchyroll droping the ball hard and marking goblin slayer as TV-PG which mislead quite a few viewers into thinking this was some isekai shennagins, secondly as others have brought up rape feels like a lazy trope tool to induce hate for goblins relying on shock factor to justify GS killing all the goblins, in the manga we see the back stories of these otherwise nobodys like fighter growing up and learning techniques from her father and wizard earing her staff making us care about them. Episode 2 showed us backstory into GS himself and where is hatred comes from that could have also been good to explain his motivations while also better introducing the setting.
@DimitriMonroe
@DimitriMonroe 6 жыл бұрын
@K Melesh 1. That is specifically crs fault and the backlash should be solely on them. That changes nothing about the criticism to the content. 2. Rape exists. To make this argument that it's being used poorly is to say any form of violence is the same. Again I made a point to not say it's high brow, rape is a horrible act and it shows how disgusting these creatures are, it's a way to show this as well as other violent acts they commit. This isn't a deep piece of work, again it's like a b-movie and that's perfectly fine. I'm not even sure I'd argue it isn't cheap, but I just don't think thats bad, its portrayed well. 3. That backstory is very minimal. We just simply learn things like how that staff was important to the mage girl. It makes the scene when it snaps more hurtful but these were always intended to be random nobodies. It doesn't change the context of the scene, it's the same in both and does not change any argument. I think the addition in the manga is nice since it makes the scene even worse but it isn't necessary. Is it really that hard to empathize with someone who isn't special?

Crunchyroll's irresponsible incompetence is partly to blame for the controversy. The subbed a seinen dark fantasy, AND THEN LABELED IT "TV-PG". That's why people who really should not have seen this anime, ended up watching the first episode. I've grown intrested in this show (ironically because of the controversy despite skipping over it at first), and even I'll admit that little kids should not be watching this, just like how someone who is to young shouldn't play doom despite how awesome the game is.

Language, Blood, Sexual Contact, and body disfiguration are the main factors that determine if something gets rated R (where they need to confirm is someone is either 17/18), also if something is violent but doesn't have blood, sex, or etc... it should be rated PG-13 by the US standards. Regardless of your opinion of the show, it was negligent of Crunchyroll to not give Goblin Slayer a more mature rating.

I am very appreciative when a show actually tackles the subject. Especially when they do it as well as Goblin Slayer did. It's pretty common to... tease, for lack of a better word, the idea that the hero/heroine might get abused like that, but they never do and it cheapens the topic at large because of it. Then you go to Goblin Slayer which actually does it, and then it's portrayed appropriately terrifying and damaging.

I watched the first episode and after the whole moaning and complaining, I must say that it was much milder and tame than I expected it to be. I think most people complaining haven't seen any anime that came out before 2012, as there are MUCH more violent and depressing shows that made me feel worse and shocked me more (Bokurano, Elfen Lied, Higurashi, Fate; Zero, hell even some parts of HxH etc) They didn't even show their naked bodies, the gore and blood was very minimal, it felt almost like a shonen when it came to the downgraded violence, so I have no fucking clue why these people are complaining.

Goblin slayer isn't edgy. That's like saying Madoka is a fluffy magical girl show. Goblin Slayer is a standard adventure LN/Manga/Anime that starts off with a dark example to establish exactly how vile goblins are and, in spite of this, how they're underestimated by everyone. This plays in later since because they're usually underestimated many adventurers either don't bother taking jobs killing them, or end up dead (or worse) because they underestimated them like the throwaway party in the first couple of chapters. After that's been established, which it has, the series shifts into a more standard fantasy flavor. This includes a good-natured lizardman, a dwarf and elf that are close and bicker constantly, and many jokes and outright comedic moments. On top of that Goblin Slayer itself is the story of a man who had to experience the absolute cruelty of goblins firsthand, grew up under a not-hobbit's merciless training, to become a single minded goblin-killing machine. Also it's the story of, through interaction with his newfound party, he is very-slowly regaining some of the humanity he had to put aside in favor of becoming the Goblin Slayer you see in the first episode. @JawBurst Isekai means "another world" and is a genre wherein someone, usually the main character(s), are transported or otherwise find themselves in *another world*. Examples include Digimon Season 1, Escaflowne, and Log Horizon. Goblin slayer is not an isekai since every character exists within that world and has done so for the entirety of the series timeline. There's some hints later that the "Gods" of the world play it like a D&D-like tabletop game but that's not isekai.

I remember my friend recommending me the manga when it first came out, then apologizing almost immediately because of the rape scenes. I said it was ok because I still loved the story and the rape was to solidify the fact the goblins are evil and why Goblin Slayer wants them all dead. Fast forward and the anime gets announced, I'm excited thinking about my favorite moments from the manga coming to life. Watched the first episode, thought "looks like they kept everything in, although some censoring took place, not that I blame them." Not too long after, while watching random KZbin, realized people were defending Goblin Slayer, which confused me because the first episode was pretty good. Then it hit me... While i'm not fan of goblin slayer, I can say with convidence that this entire controversy is dumb and brought questions that were already answered long time ago, Anime is part of art, it can potryal anything the creators want regardless if it comes off as tastless in the viewers eyes and it's still up to disscution whatever or not that scene was well implemented or not, honestly it leaves me baffled to the point where ask this people *have they just started watching anime like yesterday?* my issues with goblin slayer extends further then just "rape scene" but after reading the manga up to date i have accepted it for trying to do, *Being crazy stupid over the top Goblin busting sqaud* it sometimes tries to sprinkle some themes but they're hardly explored and thats probably for the best, Good Vid overall

That's not the problem for me. The problem is on how they execute it without a proper building up and a shocking suspense, it didn't really surprised me but rather disappointed me. I have no problems with the dark gritty theme, same for many TV series case in point you can look at the red wedding from game of thrones and how it was building up to an event that would take many by surprised. Same for berserk, there was a build up to those moments. GS does not have those build ups or rather a very short and forgettable note. Giving the satisfaction of seeing the antagonist demise because you stayed connected to some of the characters would even make this series even better, giving the characters mini arcs before the climax while fighting much lower class monster or a lone goblin idk it seemed like I never felt bad for any of the characters. It's just a sudden turn of event it could have waited for at least 4 episodes before kicking off to something drastic. I love seeing things get fucked up and I don't complain about things being to edgy unless it's done poorly to the point for the whole premise lacking because of it. Yes it is too edgy.

The word 'edgy' has been thrown around so much that it's become a meaningless pretend insult to anything with even slightly dark themes. Don't take anyone who says something is too 'edgy' to be any good too seriously, it is lazy and uninspired. I read the light novel and the manga and I thoroughly enjoyed both. Later on they introduce the character Sword Maiden. She's one of the strongest people in this world, and has even saved the world by helping to kill a demon lord. But then you learn that a single mistake early on in her adventuring career left her horrifically scarred, both physically and mentally. She was knocked out and dragged to a goblin nest, where they did to her what they do to every woman they get their hands on. Because of this she is terrified of goblins and cannot face them, forcing her to hire Goblin Slayer and his party to exterminate the goblins infesting the sewers of her city.

Great vid. It takes a very self-aware individual to realize when the nonsense being spewed is based on anything more than "muh feelings" based reasoning. There can be objectivity when analyzing media. "But opinions can't be wrong and it's muh opinion that this show is offensive to me!" Yes, opinions are based on feelings and feelings can't be wrong but your REASONING and LOGIC that allowed you to arrive at those conclusions can be flawed and based on conflicting information while ignoring facts that disprove your conclusion. The "this is just my opinion" defense has to fucking stop because it's such a cop-out excuse for poorly reasoned arguments. Literally ANYONE can make that argument, just because it's YOU making that argument doesn't make it more valid than anyone else'.

Reminds me a lot of the scene with Mitty in MiA. It’s suppose to shock you. It’s suppose to make you hate bonedude. Without that scene or hell even the scene with riko; the audience is just gonna think the show is some kids adventure and not an actual situation that can end with the characters who happen to be kids; dying in horrible ways. Basically if you got a show that makes you hate monsters (just cause it’s ugly and has a big nose doesn’t make it Jewish) and what better way then to show a horrible act to drive home that the time for talk is over and the red mist is actually pretty once you just let it go and commence full “rip and tear” mode.

Great video, I really enjoyed your review on goblin slayer. I really don't enjoy commenting on youtube but.. So many people have been taking GS way too seriously. The manga starts off dark but as the story progresses it turns into a fantasy adventure story with harem elements. The story itself is self-aware of what it is. In a particular chapter Goblin Slayer slays an orc because only because his team convinces him that the orc is just a really big buff goblin. Goblin slayer itself is heavily based off of fantasy table top rp games (dungeons and dragons for example). In the manga, itself only goblin slayer is given a name. Other character's are referred to as their title ex: elf ranger, lizard priest, dwarf shaman, and priestess. And some quotes from the manga: "The gods of light and order and destiny... Vied with the gods of darkness and chaos and chance... To see who would control the world. They waged this struggle with dice." "Your ultimate fate... Your final doom.. Is always just a roll of a dice away." But yes, great video! I'm definitely going to check out more of your content!

I'm pretty sure is far from being a McDonald's. Beyond the violence and rape scenes (that are actually relevant to the plot), we are dealing here with a guy with PTSD who's totally not dealing well with his traumas. You can go to Goblin Slayer: Year One to actually know in depth more about the character, who trained him (who is actually a big plot mystery), and the people around him, who care about him, but are unable to reach the man beneath the armor. The armor actually plays a big part on the characterization. He only take of his armor to sleep in his house, to repair it, when he is gravly injured, and one time when someone told him that wanted to see his face. So, not the Goblins, the violence, or the edgyness, is the man who cannot leave the armor, the focal point of the story. It's actually a drama, not just a goblin-slasher anime. A drama about a guy who where encased in an armor, in an neverending crusade against the goblins, and the people he met that want to make a little difference in his life, to share the burden and the pain he is obviuoly bearing, and to slowly take him out to a better life. The most important parts of this sotry are precisly the parts that resolve around this topics. The Goblin slaying thing is just the vehicule to told the story.
@Aphelion_k9f
@Aphelion_k9f 6 жыл бұрын
Exactly. The elf girl wants to take him on an "adventure," but GS doesn't understand that concept. His world is fueled by goblin slaying, because that's all he knows. It's an outlet. It's therapeutic. He won't ever be able to live a normal life until he deals with the trauma from his childhood.

As someone who didn't really care for episode 1 of GS, I really hate the conversation around Goblin Slayer's edginess and whatnot because it's created an environment where it's really difficult to criticise it without being lumped into differing sides. Every time this sort of thing happens to a piece of media it just feels like the majority of the people pick sides based on the people they follow on twitter's reactions to it, rather than actual quality. I'm not saying there's no good criticism to be found, but it dilutes the discussion for those who are interested in a genuine discussion about GS as a show/manga. I'm also not trying to imply that both "sides" are doing this in equal measures, because the anti-GS crowd is clearly way more upset about- and mostly responsible for- the dumb discussion. I also have a problem with how you make one of arguments in your video. I don't entirely disagree, I just have an issue with the way you argued it: I'm not sure what the point was with your connection to A Clockwork Orange. I don't really see the point in countering them with the argument that "rape should be depicted as unbearable" because their issue with it is that it's being depicted *at all*, not how graphic it is. It just seems condescending because it isn't even relevant to their complaint. I also don't think there's much of a comparison to be made with A Clockwork Orange at all, since many will argue that there is a line to be drawn depending on the goal of the piece of work. A Clockwork Orange is much easier to construe as trying to make some sort of point or send a message, whereas you said yourself that you view Goblin Slayer as "cheap instant satisfaction", and compare it to McDonalds. What I'm saying is; some people don't think anal-beads should be found in happy meals.

@spamsam568 6 жыл бұрын
that is such an obvious point it doesn't need to be made, you could argue that every single show which portrays the struggle between good and evil has that exact same theme - if that is the theme that the mangaka wrote the story around then it further proves the simplicity of the show
@ilikefrogs1502
@ilikefrogs1502 6 жыл бұрын
The reason they showed Clockwork Orange is because they already covered how "their issue with it is that it's being depicted at all" is a no different than censorship of media, and they were trying to show a piece of media that the public thinks handled rape well and how it parallels with how GS handled rape. Whether the point is valid I don't know, I haven't seen either pieces of media. Rant on Anti-GS crowd: From someone who is pretty neutral in this situation, I find the anti-GS crowd to be pretty vapid. The main counter I see from them is "berserk handled rape way better, because we actually see the consequences due to the victims being key characters". Oh yeah? ghostlightning.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/image_thumb25.png?w=640&h=470 who are these memorable key characters again? I've even seen people say it's different because "the trolls are drawn better, so its ok"... Granted this is anecdotal. There are plenty of things in Berserk that are used simply for "cheap world building purposes". Rape is just one of them. But if we we're to compare art quality, the art in the first arc of berserk is nothing outstanding. It takes a bit of time before we get to the standard of art we hold berserk at now. I'd even go as far as to say the quality of GS art trumps Berserk's first 2 volumes, but that's personal opinion. TL;DR: Don't use anything in Berserk as a counter to GS, it makes you look hypocritical and ignorant.
@poego6045
@poego6045 6 жыл бұрын
Like, the biggest issue is that like....it's lazy. It is. Berserk implements a lot of it's more offensive material into the actual character arcs and give it the just due context it deserves. In Goblin Slayer, it just feels like a cheap way to justify the protagonist's actions and to add shock. Remember, these aren't true stories, so it's the writer providing this context, not the characters. Having the characters justify problematic material tends to be a cop out, which trivializes the issue. With Berserk, it's less "let's this rape happen for shock context" and more "this is a pivotal aspect of the character and it allows for a discussion on the effects rape has on its victims" rather than just a cheap way to justify a dude killing rapists. (I mean, it also makes it boring if he's basically just a glorified pest exterminator) And the reason this IS the case and not so justified is that other characters mention experience points, confirming that THIS IS A VIDEO GAME. Like, having player characters in a video game be rapeable and horribly maimed and killed just feels like someone took an isekai and just made it super edgy. That, and the fact that the 2nd episode has this really flagrant fanservice breasty girl for most of it just really kills the suspension of disbelief and whatever topics the show may have been trying to address. (tbh, fan service ruins a lot of good shows that suffer from the tonal dissonance. Honestly, I think a show that does Goblin Slayer's concept better is Grimgar (which unfortunately also falls prey to fanservice grinding the show to a halt). In that, goblins are creatures trying to survive, and do put up very HARD fights against rookies, and it feels more real than "raping, maiming machines we shouldn't feel sorry for". The concept works WITHOUT the raping and maiming, so putting it in is why people call it edgy. They took Grimgar and said "let's add some rape and murder for shock value" but then tried to play it off like a serious work rather than the grindhousey trash it comes off as.

Again really nice video, i was waiting for it since you mentioned wanting to talk about it on stream, i watched a video talking about how the shots were sexy and other stuff like that but in the classic taking something out of context of the whole, it's still a crying woman who was beaten up while the warrior is being dismembered, it's clear the point was not to make you feel aroused. It's actually funny how the people talking about being aroused where the ones who didn't like it while no one who wanted to watch it metioned it. Another good point is how violence is okay here in west, so a killing machine with no emotions like Doom guy is okay but putting the human element on it makes people freak out (what is supossed to be the idea), Goblin Slayer himself is a fucked up dude, he still has something human on him but his mind don't want glory or hapiness, only killing goblins. To sum it up: I like my dark fantasies of sturdy guys with edge killing things

Goblin Slayer was frequently compared to Berserk by it's fanbase and sense it's seinen, that usually comes with the expectation of being decently written, and Goblin Slayer just isn't. Goblin Slayer is a mess of a story, and really doesn't have anything outside of looking cool and having good fights. The reason the rape gets so much focus is probably because it's really the most substance Goblin Slayer actually has, whereas Psychopass has great characters, an interesting world, and a good story all of which are pretty evident by the end of the first episode that the rape scene can easily be glossed over. The rape scene is also followed by other scenes that would stand out more in a viewers memory, such as said rapist getting turned into paste by a dominator and Akane shooting Kogami with her dominator. Also at the time of Psychopass' release anime wasn't flooded by social justice warriors trying to get brownie points from their Twitter friends by complaining whenever something gets too sexualized on screen.

But some people need to understand that they shouldn't use those feelings to call the show trash. Something else to point out, Goblin Slayer can have a bit of a gray area from time to time. In the first episode at the end they question if the children should be killed and if there could be a good goblin out there. The Goblin Slayer himself also says that to goblins he could be just as terrible and maybe the reason goblins treat humans so horribly is because humans treated them horribly in response even when they are young and probably haven't done anything yet. Its basically a big cycle of revenge

I remember saying the other day that Goblin Slayer was "edgy trash," and I felt like my judgment was too harsh and hypocritical. Earlier this year, I was watching Magical Girl Site and sorta enjoyed it despite it being edgy trash. I guess it's because the magical girl genre has a special place in my heart unlike the isekai genre. There's really nothing in Goblin Slayer that I haven't seen done before and far more graphically (Perfect Blue had two rape scenes in one movie).

@@RayOfTruth I'm going by the graphicness of the scenes rather than their execution. Perfect Blue did it better, but I think it was also a lot more graphic, which is why I believe my dissing on Goblin Slayer for its rape scene is hypocritical. Criticizing Goblin Slayer's execution of its rape scene would also make me a hypocrite since I enjoyed equally exploitative material in the past (e.g. Magical Girl Site).

My only gripe with some people is that they know about the rape scene or the reputation of Goblin Slayer but still decide to watch it and complain. Like if you know what it is about and you don't like it then why did you decide to tune in? That sound like you want to be butthurt in the first place. @JamRock Bless … … … So this how someone with a cognitive disorder views the world, eh? You misrepresent things, create straw man arguments the attack those arguments. I have seen plenty of reviews where someone said 'well I don't think the animation is good' or 'the dialogue isn't good' without saying anything too bad about *that scene* and still was still heavily attacked by mindless Goblin Slayer fans for daring to question the quality of the show. Little to no mention of the assault scene and zero demonization of the fans yet still hundreds of butt hurt Goblin Slayer fanboys crying that someone didn't like their show. I've even seen a ton of people calling Digibro a SJW Snowflake NPC (insert buzzwords here,) despite saying "the rape wasn't even that good" in his video. Also in REALITY even people like the Pedantic Romantic and Mother's Basement who have made questionable claims about the show have also said you're *not* automatically a terrible person for liking the show and never said anything about the fans being rape apologist. If you're so mad over someone misattributing the fan base as all being something, then you shouldn't misattribute a group as making a claim that only like one person actually said. Tl;dr you complain about straw man arguments yet your arguments are straw man arguments.

RayOfTruth I’m pretty sure that that’s a vocal minority since the fans I’ve come across on KZbin and Discord have been pretty civil about this, and for those critiques, I didn’t notice the CG initially but maybe that’s why the animation was so stiff at points, boring? Well admittedly it does start slow and making it a flashback was a mistake since the audience would automatically know how it ends and it’ll be a foot tapping wait. As for being poorly written......well I wouldn’t say that it’s objectively bad. Objectively it ranges from okay to good to great at points but those moments come from later on in the series admittedly.

Honestly my only potential gripes about the series are firstly lazy naming examples including: Guild girl, Cow Girl, etc. The second of my issues are the fact that in spite of the fact that goblins are literally considered as nothing more than pests in need of controlling some of the silver ranked adventurers who MUST have some where along the line encountered goblins are shocked by the cruel way goblin slayer deals with them even though they should be more than aware that the goblins themselves are completely irredeemable. Furthermore, its even more unbelievable for said silver ranked adventurers being shocked by the way which the goblins treat the women they capture ex: raping them and/or using them as meat shields. Some arguments in opposition for my claim on the silver adventurers not knowing about goblins being that goblin slayer is a specialist on goblins and so he logically would know more about said goblins, however that doesnt account for the fact that it seems highly implausible that a majority of these adventurers who are so highly ranked have virtually no experience dealing with said goblins. Other than these gripes, id say that the characters for the most part are fleshed out well enough and even though the plot itself isnt the most complex it handles itself decently.

@Valoe7 i feel that within the context of the universe it might be logical to assume that those in charge of the guild itself actually does acknowledge the threat of letting goblins go undisturbed but they simply cant compensate the adventurers properly to go take care of them especially with how fast the goblins reproduce, leaving issues of the guild not being able to incentivize adventurers to do pest control when they could go do literally anything else for more profit

@@gxgycf8348 there's a number of things the guild can do. They can raise awarness on how dangerous goblins can be, train beginners on some basics and goblins, or raise the rank needed to accept goblin quests. If stories about rape and TPK are common why does the guild allow people sre barely starting out to accept such quests? Having a high mortality rate can't be good for business. In the beginning when the first party takes on the goblin quest Guild Girl gives them NO warning, and just beats around the bush yet she knows what commonly happens??

I haven't watched Goblin Slayer yet so I could be off base, but I get the impression that the world is essentially the physical manifestation of an MMO or one big D&D session. I mean, the Priestess is literally handed a 5th Edition character sheet when applying for adventuring in the manga. While I don't play D&D, my experience in MMOs has taught me that many players don't really pay much attention to lore, considering it window dressing behind the leveling and grinding for that sweet, sweet loot in the endgame. This is the reason why high level adventurers tend to look down on goblin quests in this world despite the danger the creatures pose to civilians, aka NPCs. The characters in Goblin Slayer are shocked at the goblins' behavior because they skimmed past the dialogue too quickly and they either haven't faced them in battle or they quickly leveled past them. The adventurers in the first episode are newbies tackling their first instance, but their inexperience and overconfidence leads to a team wipe. The Goblin Slayer himself is either a higher level player who loves RP'ing or an NPC everyone loves so much that the DM feels obligated to keep him around.

@neverhoodian Sureee we could just take the assumption that all the characters are just real life people playing an rpg and as such thats why they have unrealistic personalities and are so inept, but to me first of all that'd be an excuse for lazy writing and secondly if that were the truth then that would honestly degrade the value of the story as a whole for me, seeing as instead of being this gritty and harsh but atleast fleshed out world its an inept dm's story with plot holes with players acting out the characters explaining the unrealistic way they act. At that point it might as well just be another isekai
