I've been doing keto for a year & a half with great results & I must say there are many judgmental keto perfectionists out there, some who have their own KZbin channels. I am poor & retired and live on a fixed income and do keto the best I can which means no grass raised beef or free range chicken & eggs. "Dirty" keto is better than none.

But if you change beef for one week of organic egg you can even save money. Only omelettes for a week, or bould, scrambled with little cheese. Then one day organic beef on the saved money. So there are ways to ger glass fed even on a poor budget if you are willing to adjust. Then throw in some fasting and you get two days with organic beef....there is always a way, even with a fixed budget...

We NEVER buy “keto” labeled and processed foods. We make everything and don’t count anything or worry about the extremes. I’ve lost 200lbs, cured diabetes, high blood pressure, no longer require any of the 12 pharma meds a took for years and years. My A1c is 5.4, hdl Is 80, ldl is 60, triglycerides are 61, glucose is 100. My cardiologist is amazed. Wife’s numbers are within a digit or two of mine. We couldn’t be more happy.

I am very happy for you!!! That is a really great achievement!!! Congratulations!!! 👏👏👏🎉🎉🎉 If you don't mind could you please tell me what is allowed to eat and what is not allowed to eat on the keto you did? Could you please also give me some mealplan examples? Also is it ok to eat a slice of cake or a slice of pizza from time to time? During Christmas many people usually eat sweets and cake, so if you eat for sweets for some days you are getting out of ketosis? For how many days can you eat sweets or potatoes/starches/pasta/pizza so that you are not cast out of ketosis? I would be very happy and grateful to receive your answer. My father has hypertension and I really sincerelly want to help him. Thank you.

Thanks Dr Westman I am 81 years old and have now been doing keto for over a year now I have lost 15 kilos and have gone from high blood pressure to normal I am off all medication I do aerobics with dumbbells and row when weather is right I now keep up with rowers decades younger Being the worlds worst cook this is the simple method I use and it is working great for me my thinking is sharper and almost no aches or pains I buy meat all types chicken beef sardines lamb pork mince whatever is on special at the time I cut that meet up and cook it in a wok I steam greens broccoli cabbage sprouts kale whatever greens that are cheap I then mix them in with the meat in the wok and freeze that concoction in containers Then once each day I put that in a bowl with some bone broth 3 eggs sometimes grated cheese I then microwave that add salt and a small avocado mix it up and believe it or not is tasty filling and keeps me satisfied all day I may have some low fructose fruit and a small amount of cream some hours later If I feel like it I may have a rissoles or a sausage or two in the evening I know this may sound horrendous but believe me it has worked wonders Thing is I never get sick of it Of it it is tasty filling and satisfying My hair is thicker my skin is softer and best of all my friends cannot believe the change in my appearance and ability Once a week I do reward my self with a few beers with friends

I'm a few years younger than you but what you wrote has me ready to pull out my wok and get cooking. After I retired, I started eating a lot more meat and veggies so I lost a lot of weight. The weight loss stalled when lockdowns were instituted and I didn't go out shopping as often. You have encouraged me to get back to what I was doing. I like your concoction; I'll give it a try. I like cooking but not constantly as I do have other things I want to do such as this year expanding what veggies I grow so I don't have to always get in the car to go get what I want to cook.

@@robertjohnson6418 I eventually was able to do the warrior diet which is 20:4. The first couple of weeks are rough, but if you stick with it, you really don't feel straight up hungry at the 20 hour mark, only slightly peckish. One of Thomas Delauers concoctions really helps. Its a full glass of water, two table spoons of apple cider vinegar, a juiced lemon, (or I just used two table spoons of organic lemon juice) 1/4 teaspoon pink salt, 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar. I drink it with a straw because the vinegar is bad for teeth. I usually had it two to four hours before breaking my fast. It keeps your electrolytes in check.

Agreed. Lazy Keto is all most people need. If you stay in Ketosis you arw going to get most of the benefits. I have friends who are older (60+) and on fixed income. It is scary for them because they think it is sooo expensive and you have to be organic. RIDICULOUS. It is very simple. Stay away from processed foods (real foods), starchy veggies/fruits, seed oils, processed sweeteners....... keep carb count to 20g Net. That's it

I eat mostly things that are relatively "clean". However, I do regular Walmart eggs, can tuna, sardines, beef & chicken liver, Chicken thighs, Walmart 100% beef patties, butter, Himalayan Salt, pepper, and drink mostly water with lemon. But it gets really "dirty" because I occasionally snack on pork rinds, hot dogs and yes, even Vienna sausages! I also have a tablespoon of peanut butter (without seed oils) & a square of 85% dark chocolate a day as dessert. I eat 2 meals in a four hour window, including snacks, so I intermittent fast as well. It all works for me, I feel good & I've lost 74 lbs in 4-1/2 months.

👍Good to know we eat "lazy, dirty keto." While getting off SAD (Standard American) diet, eating lots of fat took the edge off cravings (carb addiction) and hunger. Now after a successful first year, we are cutting back on the fat. I used to eat 6 times a day, retired and switched to 2 times a day, low carb. We lost all the weight we wanted (25 + 50) during Covid (where many people gained weight.) And our labs look good too. After many years of eating low fat, I find it amazing, that eating carbs stimulate, rather than satisfying, hunger. ❗

You and Dr. Berry are the best. I often flip between ketovore and carnivore. I found that being fully carnivore gives me horrible stomach issues. The keto zealots have turned me off from listening to them. They hate "dirty keto". They were the ones that gave it that name and looked down upon us if we went to Burger King got a double burger and only at the meat. I followed Dr. Berg for a while and while he has some great advice, he hates "dirty keto." Everything must be "organic." Well a lot of people can't afford everything organic and are living on a budget. On my way home from home when I'm too tired to cook, I would stop by McDonalds, pick me up several quarter pounders and I was good. My zealots have tried to make me feel bad by saying, "That's not real beef." At the end of the day, I'm well and striving on keto. These people make me sick. This way works for thousands of people and keeps them sane!

I found that erythritol sweetener really upset my digestive system, so I switched to Splenda. Dr Westman, I took your advice and cut the nuts! Well, nut flours - I was baking all these keto desserts, with lots of cream, cream cheese, etc Stopped all that. Keeping it simple. I like Amy Berger's videos too.

I am just wrapping up my second week of Keto. My only hiccup is that I’m a vegetarian. So for me, eggs, Salmon, and Shrimp are what I include with my salads, etc. And thanks to you Dr. Westman, I just found you yesterday, I realized that I was over doing it with the cheese and walnuts. Plus I ate a junk keto bread! I guess it’s all in educating your self.

If others consider I do lazy, dirty keto so be it. I don’t want to be on a diet they have never worked for me. I wanted to lose weight which I have going low carb and keto.. i feel great. More energy, less inflammation in my body. I do try and eat cleaner meats for the sake of the animal. I do make bone broth for me. I do drink some diet soda and zero sugar Italian soda for me. Sometimes I eat higher fat, the ghee, butter, mct oil. Sometimes I don’t. This is for life not just a period of time to lose weight.

I never used an app or calculated macros or used the oils or even measured etc and I brought my A1C down from 10.5 to 5.9 in a matter of months by dirty, lazy keto. I did educate my self on carbs and fiber in items I regularly ate and made omissions, adjustments and substitutions. After my blood test I knew how much wiggle room I had to eat non keto as long as most of the time I tried to keep my net carb in take under 20-25. I just don't have non keto items daily. I reserve them for a craving or when I really want them. Pasta and potatoes are about the only items I haven't found keto subs for that I can live with.

I have great respect for Dr Westman, his experience, and the message he promotes👍🙂 The takeaways… understand basic low carbohydrate principles, learn which foods to avoid, which foods to choose from. Put away the apps, scales, and calculators. Enjoy real food and feel comfortably full, enjoy being free from hunger pangs every few hours. Low carb eating has certainly changed my mindset, the way I feel, and feel about food, all in positive ways. Liberating. I am no longer drawn to fuel the body with fast-acting but soon-depleted carbohydrate energy.

in November 2018 I started keto very strictly and I was extremely thrilled with doing it that way counting my macros writing stuff down weighing my food and it was such a surprise just how much enjoyment I actually got out of it. and then the first closure happened and I went berserk and totally off everything. I've been trying to get back to keto for over a year now and wasn't able to do so at all of course it's an emotional chaos. so 6 weeks ago I started Ozempik shots and it has made a tremendous difference in controlling craziness. I am now able to do IF anywhere between 12 and 18 hours and this video just reaffirmed that I will be losing weight even if I don't go back to totally clean keto as I was doing before. thank you for providing us with such priceless information. you are a true doctor who cares about world health.

YES! You're singing my song. People make this way too complicated. I am hypothyroid, 65 years old and was holding onto the last 15 lbs. from a 50+ lb weight gain that happened before they discovered my thyroid was out of whack 20+ years ago. I was up and down in a 5 lb range, but that last chunk of weight refused to leave. When I went to 2 meals per day and "mostly" keto, I guess it's called dirty keto, no special foods or recipes, no keto desserts, etc., I dropped that last 15 lbs, then I broke my leg in a tree cutting accident, had surgery to stabilize it and was in bed for almost a month, lost 8 more lbs and have had no trouble keeping my weight down. It has been relatively simple and mostly hunger-free. No fast food-we grow a portion of our own food and keep chickens for fresh, organic eggs and natural fertilizer. I eat a lot of tuna, stew meat, some chicken, pork roasts, bacon, roasted vegetables (even some root vegetables on occasion), some cheese, heavy cream in my coffee every day, even a spoonful of peanut butter here and there, light Greek yogurt and I don't sweat a lot of the details. I do not count calories or really even carbs, but I occasionally count my total carbs in my head, just to see what I'm doing. You are so right, it WORKS! If I have to think of macros all the time, I keep food in my mind every minute and I can't live that way. I keep busy with life so that I'm eating to live, not living to eat. Thank you! ~Cynthia

I’ve known of lots of folks who did dirty keto and lost weight. I did strict keto with my daughter and I lost 60, she 85 I think and she regained her fertility and I delivered her keto baby who is now 3. We both slowly fell off the keto oomph and have regained our weight, me with many friends. I recently restarted but decided I wouldn’t log and count. I know where hidden carbs live, I love them therefore we know one another very well lol seriously though, yes I’m aware of hidden carbs. I’m focusing on not snacking, increasing my protein, eating vegetables to preference that are lower on the carb scale. It wasn’t a smooth start and I need to lose well over 100# it’s been a couple weeks and I’ve lost 4lbs. I’m encouraged and will continue. This is much more doable than counting and cringing.

I started my keto journey this way. It’s all a learning process and absolutely enjoyable. It’s affordable if you make it a gradual change so you keep going. Now nearly 4 yrs in keto I’m fat adapted and don’t get hungry nor do I have ANY cravings. I’ve come to OMAD - One Meal A Day - meaning I pay for less food but great quality is chosen. Organic veggies and grass finished is in my budget because I only can eat once a day… anything more I would be overeating and it’s not necessary to stuff yourself. Eat until you’re full - not overstuffed!

Lost 80 lbs in a year an never counted any macro or potion size. Some days I would eat a lot, the day after was usually much less, but at the end of the week 1 to 2 lbs were gone. If your carb amount is low enough for your body (different for everyone) it should regulate your hunger. Now, if you have other eating triggers like emotional eating or habitual stuff, that may require some monitoring.

As a senior citizen, I find that the lazier and dirtier the KETO the better. In fact, I recommend not necessarily bothering to cook the meat. In fact, once in awhile, I'll buy a package of ground beef and rip open the package as soon as I get in to my vehicle outside the supermarket. There's nothing like some nice steak tartare enjoyed in the front seat of your vehicle. I eat it that deliciously raw grass fed beef with one of the many plastic forks I keep in my glove compartment. Thank you Adapt Your Life for allowing me to share. Every once in awhile, I like a nice non KETO lazy and dirty high carb diet instead. For example, my favorite way to eat a piping hot, bubbling serving of extra cheesy high carb Mac and Cheese is from a big crusty, fresh and moist bread bowl (boule?) No matter what I'm eating, I always save some scraps for the Family Dog!!

I've lost 46.5 lbs since the pandemic hit. Had nothing to do with food shortages. Just needed to change or die - hypertension. I've been doing dirty keto also - losing wt super slowly. I do 125 carbs daily. My doctor is very happy and so is my bp. I eat what I want, but I do watch the carbs, sodium, calories so I do count. Once a month, I eat whatever I want. Sometimes I get tired of tracking everything and I do cheat out of frustration. Tried 35 carbs daily. Lost 9lbs in 4 days but I hated the foods list. Then tried 100 carbs. I was always going over. 125 is my happy place and I still lose weight - especially if I get on my bike!

Day 3 of trying keto, and the BIGGEST thing i have noticed already... my calories have tanked because I just dont feel like eating. I eat 6 eggs for breakfast and I dont want to eat anything else almost until dinner. Steak, avocado and a salad for dinner and then a handfull of walnuts, macadamia nuts and cheese for a snack before bed and as a 200 pound dude ive only had 1600 calories and felt full all day. Which i generally would eat 3000+ calories. Workouts have been good enough as well. Strength is exactly where it has been, but I noticed recovery between sets today was longer to feel fully ready.

I don't have a kitchen scale, and the only measurements I really know is a teaspoon is 5 ml and a tablespoon 15 ml. For the rest I just ensure that I mostly stick to HFLC. So most of my meals are a huge mixed salad or stir-fry veg and a piece of lamb, steak or yummy fatty fish. But I will have a slice of sourdough toast with avo once a week, and even a pizza once a month! Who does not like pizza? And occasionally I will make my own oven fried or air fried french fries, and enjoy it with fish or some other protein.

I am only 2.5 months into this journey (lost 35 of my 75 pound goal.) I found you last week and love your approach. THere is something you and others have said that confuses me that I hope you can help with. In this presentation, you have stated that "you can eat as much as you want." I'm not certain how that works? It is my understanding that a calorie deficiency is still necessary for your liver to convert stored fat into ketones used by your body as energy, If I consumed 3000 calories of fat a day, my liver would convert that fat into ketones and not consider my storage fat. I am certain I could comfortably eat 3000 calories a day. Right now, I am 237 and OMAD every other day with an average daily caloric intake of 900-1500 calories. I consume as little fat as required to keep me satiated until my next meal. I am normally hungry 2 hours or so before I eat (thus the OMAD every other day.) Can you explain how I can eat all that I want and continue losing weight at an acceptable rate? Thank you

There are plenty of places where you can buy inexpensive organic veggies like Trader Joes, Whole Foods and Costco. Trader Joes is the best but even Safeway has a small organic section a bit more expensive & lower quality, but not that much. You can also grow your own micro greens and sprouts. Cruciferous veggies grow and grow. I have a brocolli on my deck that is still growing after 2 weeks in Feb. when the temperature did not go above freezing. I eat huge amounts of veggies which have carbs and i still don’t gain weight. I have weighed about 115 for the last 3 years - easy. Lots of eggs and veggies - shrimp - fish a couple of times a week. you get used to it and break the sugar habit. I use stevia. I am so used to eating this way that it has become what I crave.

Love your attitude and your honesty in keeping Keto accessible for ordinary people. I am just starting week 3 of Keto and I am really liking it. I am keeping a food journal and counting total carbs, but just so that I can learn what that means for the foods that I eat. I am learning a lot from keeping my food journal. But, in another month or so, I am confident that I can ditch the food journal and know what I should be eating and in what quantities without weighing my food and writing it down. Thanks for everything that you do to spread the word. After only 2 weeks, I feel better and I know that if I continue to follow the Keto way of eating long term, that my health will continue to improve.
