I use my phone so much less now and I’ve also stopped making myself feel like I’m obligated to answer my phone every time it goes off. It’s a form of self care for me now. If I don’t feel like talking or responding, I don’t. It made me realize how much of a distraction my phone and my iPad were.

This entire video and this comment was me exactly. Crazy how phone addiction can really be it for people including myself. I was constantly within seconds replying to emails and texts soon as they came in. The part where you said “if I don’t feel like talking or responding I don’t”. That is an entire form of self care because honestly sometimes you’re just not in a space to respond nmw the msg is. I literally had a falling out with a friend over this because of “leaving their msg on read” (mind you no read receipts on💀😂) but people with this addiction that don’t realize it and fix it will never understand it.

Something I noticed in this video is that a lot of the tips you gave are similar to those given to people with neurodivergency, specifically people with ADHD. I think a lot of the discipline advice we get from neurotypical people is to remove any and all distractions in order for you to get certain tasks done, however, for many neurodivergent people, a lot of those behaviors can be under-stimulating and actually make things more difficult, so I especially like the tips about romanticizing tasks to make them more enjoyable to do.

Your daughter sounds like me at that age (for reference I’m 22 now). No one ever sat me down and tried to see where my head was at. I felt like no one one cared, truly because the right questions weren’t being asked and proper advice wasn’t being given. My mom and I’s relationship wasn’t the best either, which didn’t help with the depression. Instead of labeling her, try to understanding why it is that your daughter seems to be isolating herself yet acting out.

Hi Hailey, I really enjoyed this video and related to a lot of what you said, and it hit me deeper than I expected it would. For me, A lot of the issues I had with "laziness" and executive functioning actually had to do with me having ADHD. As a woman, you are more likely to be diagnosed late due to our symptoms presenting differently. Essentially, if you don't have issues the way that little boys do with behavior in class, girls are often overlooked. Women tend to have the inattentive type of ADHD, and that's what I was diagnosed with in my junior year of high school. Since then I've learned a lot about myself and my type of ADHD, and it has informed my approach to how I do things a lot now, like setting cues, taking smaller steps so tasks don't seem as daunting, talking/coaching myself out of certain behaviors to give me a kick in the ass and keeping my phone far away in the mornings. However, something I've struggled with is unlearning that I was "lazy". A lot of the times in our culture, any issue you may have with keeping up with responsibilities throughout adolescent and adulthood are seen as an active decision to underperform and a moral failing. In my experience, unlearning some of the negative beliefs and assumptions people that were ingrained in me throughout my school career have helped me a lot in rebuilding my confidence and making it easier for me to motivate myself to do things. I say all of that to say I enjoyed this video a lot and appreciated all of the tips you gave, and this video and some of your others, especially your end of year clean up video from last December remind me a lot of myself and what works for me in helping keep my life in order.

I've always felt like or should I say have made out to feel almost bad for wanting/needing to romanticize my everyday life. In the beginning you mentioned your family, and I feel like mine is a cause of laziness. Having a family that use to be ambitious and have so many ambitions, to letting one circumstance happen throughout their life to cause them to just be complacent with life makes it feel less motivating to want to get things done or make a better life for myself. And being called lazy all my life since I was little girl, has always led me to having a victim mindset. But all in all, I'm working on it day by day. It's definitely easier said than done somedays... but I appreciate watching your videos to help reassure myself that there is light at the the end of this lazy girl tunnel lol. Thanks 💓

You could try using novels as a reward, rather than deleting your novel apps altogether- as a reader, I trust you know the numerous benefits of reading. So instead of reading first thing in the morning, read only after you've finished a task. It really works, especially if the last chapter was a cliffhanger and you HAVE to know what happens next 😅😂 You could even relate the number of chapters to the difficulty of the task at hand- if you had to finish a difficult assignment in 3 hours, you could read 5 chapters. Clean your room? 3 chapters. And so on. This way, you get things done, using the very same novels that were once a distraction. Wishing you all the best 😊

Thank you for this Hailey. I truly need it and appreciate it. Thank you for being vulnerable too, I relate so much to the victim mentality mindset and having to get out of this funk
