The reason for River slashing Jayne at the beginning was never explained in the show because of the cancellation. It was because Jayne was wearing a shirt with the Blue Sun logo on it. That was the company that was behind the experiments on River. It was the same reason River was tearing off Blue Sun labels on cans in an earlier episode and why she says "He looks better in red".

Seeing Simon actually in his element for once is great. Plus, it's a more in-depth heist episode than The Train Job was. Great episode overall.

Of note, the part Wash throws in the junkyard was the same part that broke in "Out of Gas" 😯

So, we just had an interesting day on Serenity. LOL I don't know how many people remember the line from episode 1, when Mal asks why he didn't take the money to betry them. Jayne says the money wasn't good enough, and Mal responds by asking what will happen when it is. Jayne repiles "Well, that will be an interesting day."
@DocMicrowave10 ай бұрын
Absolutely. This as the day foreshadowed from the first episode. I love this show and the writing.

One of my favorite episodes. Okay, they're all my favorite. But Jayne's "don't tell them what I did" saved his own life. His shame and his acknowledging he cares what they think of him.
@DocMicrowave10 ай бұрын
Indeed. Mal was absolutely going to let him die. That last line saved him.

Just before Jayne made the swap for the uniforms etc., you see him signing off from using a public "phone" - that's when he made the deal with the feds.

*The end scene between Mal & Jayne.* - Brilliant acting from both. This is one of my favorite scenes in all of Firefly. Mal was going to kill Jayne. But then Jayne showed genuine shame & remorse. He accepted his fate and stopped begging for his life. He was more concerned with not wanting the crew to know what he did. Mal spared his life because that is someone with potential Mal can still work with. I like to think the character growth Jayne went through in 'Jaynestown' allowed him to feel that level of shame, which just saved his life. *River's statements:* 'A copper for a kiss' - Directed at Jayne. This alludes to when Judas betrayed Jesus. The difference being Judas got 30 coins of silver. Jayne didn't even get copper (which taints green when oxidized). 'They stole Christmas' - As you said - River is telling Jayne he wasn't getting his reward money. 'He looks better in Red' - Jayne's blue shirt logo is now red with Jayne's blood. More Described in the Easter egg below *Easter Eggs:* 1) The food Simon was eating that 'smelled like crotch' is one of the mystery meals from when River was ripping labels off cans (in Shindig). River then slashes Jaynes shirt with a knife. She was attacking the blue logo on Jayne's shirt. Those canned food labels had the same blue logo on them. The logo was 'The Blue Sun Corporation'. 2) In the junkyard, Wash threw a catalyzer when he found the Ambulance Body. That catalyzer was of the same model that needed replacement in 'Out of Gas'.

one of my favorit episodes by far, remember in all the episodes where jayne shows concerns for 1 crew or another? well he never really shows any for river and simon, the reason why he turned on them more easly than the rest IS BECAUSE HE DID NOT CONSIDER THEM AS PART OF THE CREW, to him thous 2 are still, at the time, some drifters that came along the ship in the past few weeks, he does not yet see them as crew members, unlike the rest (remember, in past episodes he sometimes says you/they ain't one of us)

This is my favourite episode. I like that Simon hires the crew and the heist style prep montage. The stakes are high, and we get some movement on the River arc, which is the most interesting story arc to me. And the hands-of-blue guys are so scary and cool at the same time. Also, Jayne is probably my favourite character (possibly tied with Kaylee and Wash) and this is a pivotal Jayne episode. And despite Jayne's wrongs, he also has his funniest one-liner of the entire show in this episode. Also, Zoe's treatment of the suspicious doctor is her funniest moment to me. I think this is the most serious and the funniest episode of them all.

Joss Whedon took many concepts from the anime Outlaw Star. Especially the final film Serenity. Just Google image melfina vs river. They were both revealed inside of a locked case. People think that it's Cowboy Bebop. But all. The characters are totally outlaw star.

I've enjoyed your Firefly reaction. Thank you. If you want another sci-fi series, try Farscape. It's about a US astronaut that got sucked into a worm hole and met different species of escape prisoner convicts. It's also a funny show with hints of drama. A good martial arts movie is Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Watch with subtitles because the dubbed translation is different than the spoken script. A funny martial arts movie is Kung Fu Hustle or Shaolin Soccer. Too much to explain. You can look them up or have fans support your choice.

So a lot of people miss this, but Jayne actually had a change of heart in this episode and feels guilty. While Simon is describing what the Alliance did to River, you can see Jayne's expression change to shock and guilt. Hence why he immediately changes the plan and rushes to get them out of there, but then back tracks to his original plan after they get caught to avoid getting in trouble.
@maddwitch10 ай бұрын
I don't get why people think Jayne changed his mind. If he had, he wouldn't have rushed them out. Jayne needed to take them to the feds before Mal caught wind that something wasn't right, so he had to get them out earlier than originally planned. They were supposed to go out towards the front of the hospital, where the others were waiting, but he took them towards the back of the hospital, where the feds were waiting. At no point after they leave the scanning room, does Jayne change course. He might have felt something about what was done to River, but not enough to give up his payday. Also telling is howt River reacts when Jayne tells Simon about the change in plans. Why would she be upset if he wasn't taking them to the feds?
@jackal596 ай бұрын
@@maddwitch I agree with this. At the same time, I think it's clear that Jayne was shocked by once he realized what had been done to River; his reaction shot is pointed toward that. I think he also realized when Simon took a risk to save the patient during the escape that Simon is highly skilled (something Jayne is in his own way) and a good man (something Jayne is _not_ , and he knows it). I'd argue that that is the point of these scenes, especially the second one. I also think that he is truly ashamed when Simon praises him at the end, but he flips right back into "looking in the closet and being greedy" until Mal shocks him out of it.

I didn't watch this video. I was watching older videos where you ask about suggestions, and I know if I leave comment there, you probably won't see it, so I leave comment on most recent video. I mean, Firefly was pretty good, but it was a TV show... I just re-watched Aliens and Starship Troopers with you. Movies I like. I think you haven't watched Big Trouble in Little China, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Dark Crystal, and Bloodsport. To name a few movies of all different genres that were childhood favorites, but also genre defining. If you just want to watch a good and satisfying movie, Tombstone also knocked it out of the park. You asked for recommendations (in those other videos), so those are mine. Tori should see all of these movies. I'm not sure if a good 'ninja' movie exists, but also Revenge of the Ninja. I've seen them all, I'm just not sure if any of them were good, or I'm just an '80s kid. I think the latter.

a lot of people describe mal's final decision in emotional terms, like "he had a change of heart", but i think mal simply decided that jayne was still useful. that's the only reason he was ever allowed to join the crew and that's the only thing that keeps him around because he's not a good guy. i think mal would space jayne the moment he decided he was no longer worth the trouble.
