LBC caller argues "women's rights are being deprived because of trans rights"

David Tennant, who was named Celebrity Ally at the British LGBT awards on Friday, said of Kemi Badenoch: "I don't wish ill of her, I just wish her to shut up."
The Conservative Cabinet minister accused him in turn of being a "rich, lefty, white male celebrity so blinded by ideology".
She said: "I will not shut up. I will not be silenced by men who prioritise applause from Stonewall over the safety of women and girls."
The Prime Minister has waded into the row by telling Mr Tennant that he was "the problem" for saying he wished Ms Badenoch "didn't exist" at the awards ceremony.

A question for the first caller: why does no trans woman who has competeted in the history of sport hold a world record faster, higher, longer than that of a woman who isn't trans? Literally never happened. Frankly I think her characterisation of women as weaklings who could never hold a candle to someone with a whif of maleness is pretty insulting and misogynistic. Maybe instead of scapegoating a few trans athletes we should actually be campaigning to get women's sport the same funding and parity as men's so women can actually achieve their potental.

Caitlyn Jenner set the World Record for points in the Men's Decathlon in 1975 and 1976. Though surpassed, it still remains higher than the current Women's World Record set in 2005. You're welcome. Also, an unfair sporting advantage does not mean that any trans identifying male will always beat all women, it means he will rank higher against women than if he competed against other males. Compare Lia Thomas' NCAA rankings for when he competed in men's events vs women's.

Fiona Kolbinger was superior to men in ultra-endurance cycling and you’ll find that women are actually better suited in many ways to ultra-endurance sports than men. Men can have other advantages of course but there has always been inequity in sport, that’s very much point of sport, some people are better than others at it. Some sports use a handicapping system but that doesn’t usually exist at elite level. Some ancient civilisations like the Spartans treated male and female warriors as equals and of course, the modern Olympics owes it’s origins to a celebration of warriors in ancient Greece. Should we measure athletes' testosterone to see which events they can compete in? Maybe, but if we do it should really apply to all entrants, do that and you will find some women, who were born women and are still women not being allowed to compete with other women. If sport was equal then every entrant would win and it would lose all it’s inherent value.

There was no Spartan military, there was the “leisure” class and there were slaves. The “leisure” class included men and women and all were treated equally and expected to fight. There was no “military”, in Sparta, in the same way there wasn’t in the other Greek city-states, that is why the Spartans and other city-states suffered so badly when faced with invaders who did have a military. Other states were critical of this in Sparta with Aristotle criticising people's equality and of course, platonic love in the modern sense does not equate to what Plato himself wrote about love. However, you would be correct to point out that young girls and young boys were not treated in the same way in Sparta but neither my comment nor the caller that I am responding to mention children playing.

I’m unsure why you introduced personal matters into what started off as, not quite a discussion but it was close to a discussion. Maybe it is clear why some descend to personal comments, after all, it’s something that is discussed often on LBC. I’m not sure how it is important to your beliefs but I would certainly not watch a Zack Snyder film and from what I’ve just read about Assassin’s Creed, although I don’t know it, it certainly doesn’t seem to be something that anybody would want to watch. I’m not really sure why any of my points would be contained in those films and even if they were, it is difficult to imagine why they would be your point of reference? Would perhaps be the same reference material that you learned your “evidence” of Sparta having a military? Be fair, that one isn’t even a modern discovery. I’m not somebody who would advise you to “do a bit of reading” because I don’t yet see your utterings as important or adding anything to the topic. I’m not here to educate you or even your imaginary Spartan military. I do understand why somebody could believe that such a thing was true but maybe that error is your first barrier to understanding? I’m always happy to talk to people but so far I’ve not seen anything of value being presented by you, I’m not suggesting anything personal about you, is there perhaps recently discovered evidence to back up what you claim? I don’t know but I’m guessing that’s the point she’s making ie you never hear of trans men causing issues in sport because they are unlikely to be able to compete at the same level, ‘women’ are seriously disadvantaged in most sports compared to men that’s why we have separate categories - if testosterone were simply the issue then why doesn’t a women pumped full of testosterone win in male categories? I’m guessing it’s because the other typical male characteristics like height, bone density, muscle mass have an effect? And I’m guessing it’s the same for safe spaces, most men don’t feel threatened by most women but alas it’s not the same for women. If a woman entered a men’s changing room i doubt many men would feel threatened but if a man entered a women’s changing room the reaction wouldn’t be the same. Men and Women are fundamentally different. Trans people deserve love and respect like everyone else but it does seem its women that are likely to loose out far more then men over trans rights so us men should be more empathetic to those who are more likely to be affected and listen to their concerns…IMHO

I have shared a hotel room with a trans woman, not for a moment did I feel threatened. Some of my best friends are transgendered, they are just like you and me except that they identify as the opposite of the gender they were assigned to at birth. Please do the research on gender and gender issues as the misery the transgendered population goes through due to bigotry and hatred is heart breaking. One of your family unknowingly to you could be transgendered , but they're terrified of the consequences of revealing their gender dysphoria.

Two points. We see this type of argument from liberals all the time so not sure why it is a huge deal when this woman does it. Secondly we always hear about women's rights to speak but often its only certain women.
