At least the KGB/FSB have changed a bit with the times. It used to be they were murdered as they were at a crossroads, crossing on the green, and getting hit by a big lorry that jumped the red light. No driver stayed around, the lorry was stolen, or reported stolen just before the "accident".

The Russian Ambassador was clearly very, very nervous during this interview. The constant nervous fidgeting with his pen. I suspect that he was very uncomfortable telling the Kremlin lies and it was very telling that he referred to Kyiv as Kyiv and not Kiev. I understand the pressures on him and likely his fear of what might happen to family back in Russia if he didn't peddle the Kremlin nonsense, but what Ukraine and the world needs is for people like him and others to demonstrate real courage and say 'enough' and topple the Putin regime.

The thing about national sovereignty is that countries decide for themselves if they want to join a military alliance or not. It's not sovereignty if another country dictates such a thing. The thing about the Minsk agreement is that it's impossible to implement. Ukraine wants sovereignty, to decide for itself what it wants as an independent country. Russia, on the other hand, wants to limit Ukraine's sovereignty, which is obviously impossible. This is why the Minsk accord cannot be implemented. It cannot be implemented because Russia has made it impossible. NATO still exists despite the Soviet Union no longer existing because member countries have decided for themselves to join it. That's what sovereign countries do. But Ukraine was never going to join it. It wasn't even a member of the EU. Ukraine stuck to its post-Soviet agreements with Russia. Sweden and Finland were also not going to join NATO. Putin's actions - and ONLY Putin's actions - have seen why NATO has always been necessary and why it still has relevancy. And Putin is now the reason why NATO is expanding. Moldova is next on Putin's hitlist.

Why did you let him off the hook Andrew? When he said that they would move the border to protect Crimea and other parts of Russia you did nothing to push back. Why didn't you tell him that it's not Russia's job to secure Crimea as it's part of Ukraine and not Russia? So little push back and that's typical of they way 'we' have dealt with Russia under Putin...let's not upset the mad man in charge, he might do something bad...well, he has, he is and he will again.

It was "funny" when he got visibly anxious and dumbfounded when asked in another interview if he feared that his son would be conscripted. "No, my son is not being conscripted" he squirmed. Meanwhile, mothers weep in rural russia as minorities are being chewed up by the war, whilst the "pure" russian race around Moscow and St. Petersburg is being mostly spared for now. There are neo-nazis on one side of the border alright. Here's a list of native russian languages that disappeared, or are almost gone, under Putin: Kerek, Aleut, Medny Aleut, Akkala Sami and Yugh languages have become extinct. Enets, Ingrian, Negidal, Orok, Sami, Ter, Tofalar, Udege, Votic, Ket, Yukaghir Northern & Southern, Yupik. The main Russian language is protected by the ukrainian constitution (for now, can't see this invasion helping that), whilst under Putin the native russian languages are dying, as Putin worshiping russification is sped up by the failing propaganda driven russian educational system. So here's the issue folks: Ambassador Kelin has to lie about Russia's war aims if he wants to stay alive, because we all know how Russia's government works. In a situation like this, there are very few ways that you can challenge your interview subject, because he's literally lying for his life. Given the sheer horror of this situation, I think Andrew Marr is doing the best he can to punch holes in Kelin's relentless propaganda and spin. Like every time Marr challenges him, Kelin just lies straight faced with no hesitation. I'd have a hard time maintaining my cool if I was interviewing this guy, but Marr manages to remain and calm and polite during an absolutely infuriating conversation. That takes serious journalistic skill, y'all.

yeah, I agree with this view. however, it should have been written in the title, ''interview with oblivious delusional ambassador of Russia'' so everyone respects the reality of the current situation. '

So what do you know about Russia’s war aims? And isn’t it important to try and find out in order to bring an end to this lunacy
@redmidnightruby551

 @Charlie Grant We know of it already but the truth shows that the war aim paints a dark picture of Europe, the reality is that Russian leaders are unhinged by Putin, they are using an anti-corruptive stance against the west as an excuse to start and expand the revival of Putin's soviet union, there is no gray line that Putin is walking on, he is absolutely serious on pushing pressure on G7 and Nato with a war that is costing us world-wide destructive inflation.

Marr remains calm because he knows from the outset this man is going to lie (and fall out of a window if he doesn't). I don't believe after this that we can ever negotiate anything with Russia again as most of the world are disgusted with what they are doing in Ukraine. Putin is a war criminal now and what little respect he had before this war has diminished completely.

Not one single major party in Ukraine stood on an anti-EU platform. They all advocated close co-operation with the EU, both in 2014 and 2019. The idea that the majority of Russian speakers in Ukraine want to be part of the Russian Federation is a lie.

I disagree, if Marr battled on every point to put across the "western view" as it were (aka reality) then the Russian would have just closed down and not spoke, Marr did the right thing to get the guy to speak, this wasnt meant to be a debate it was meant to be an interview.

@@sjc75vs Wrong. If the ambassador said the UK was a dictatorship, Marr would have replied. Instead the ambassador said a lot of lies and Marr did not challenge him at all. Either he was ignorant of the reality or simply a bad interviewer.
