The downfall of the Tory party as been compounded by every leader since 2010. David Cameron started the downfall by calling a referendum on the EU on a simple majority instead of a 60/40 which is usual for a referendum because of his arrogance that he could shut Nigel Farage up. Then we got Theresa May who caused the Windrush scandal as Home secretary, and achieved nothing as pm. Then Boris Johnson well got brexit done (well realy he got Britian done) and gave large contracts to his mates to supply PPE which cost a fortune and supplied nothing. Liz Truss who managed to almost destroy the economy in only 56 days, and forced mortgage rates to go through the roof when the Bank of England had to step in and take control causing inflation. Rishi Sunak was the last attempt who was out of his depth.

One quick win would have been a proper windfall tax on oil and energy companies (no loopholes, tax on 70% of excess profits) and used the money for public services, primarily the NHS. Another one would have been to appoint competent cabinet ministers (eg. Tobias Ellwood types) instead of D grade incompetents.

The actions and rhetoric of this current iteration of the Conservatives is pretty much the same as Cameron/Osborne onwards. Granted it wasn't as implicit as these days, but it was there nonetheless. Benefit claimants, immigration etc are always the go to scapegoats of ANY iteration of Conservatism. Also these days, there is the U.S. Republican style of politics that has increased exponentially these past ten years or so.

UK had the longest run of quarterly growth in GDP between 1997 and 2007, ended by the Great World Financial Crisis in 2008. Compare that with the tepid growth since 2010 despite huge increases in debt. 3. Tories had a chance to sell some remaining gold in 2011 when it reached a record high of $2000, but did not do anything. They also had a chance to buy more gold in 2015 when it halved to around $1000, but did not have the foresight.
